Re: Post Submissions Here!
Oh well, for this challenge I thought it would be fun to make a viking seeing that I am Danish .
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Can't get the slideshow to work?!?
So the reliable non squirmy nephew did not want to be a model today, so I used his fidgety brother. I had to do the SBS on my arm though.
Tools:
Royal (9250 series) #5
Royal 1/2' flat
Paint:
Paradise Purple & Yellow (I REALLY wanted to use Paradise metallic blue for the car, but my nephew chose purple so I went with it.)
Snaz Black & White
Mehron cream Silver
Paint the Body
Add:
Tires, Rims, Windows and Tailpipe
Add road striping
Add road
Outline car in white and add exhaust from tailpipe

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Cheryl that's so cute, will have to borrow that one. Have you tried photobucket to do your slide show?
Lonnie what a gorgeous viking, great work ladies.

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Yes tried photobucket 3 separate times. It's always worked before, not sure what the problem was.
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Alright, I hope this is ok... the husband really wanted to do the boy painting! I think he did this far better than I could have anyway
Materials Used:
Home made split cake of Snaz Ocre, Snaz, White and Snaz Brown
Snazaroo Metalic Blue
TAG Black
TAG White
1/2 Angular Brush
0 round brush
Instructions:
Step 1: Using the angular brush and the Ocre/Brown Split cake, paint the basic shape of the scorpion, Small segments on the tail and the pincers.
Step 2: Still using the angular brush, outline the pincers in brown, outline the brown edges and create the stripes across the back. Still using the brown and angular brush paint the legs.
Step 3: Using the round brush and metalic blue, paint the midtones up the nose, across the back stripes and in along the brown outline of the tail.
Step 4:Using the round brush and black TAG, paint around the outline of the scorpions pincers, the top of the back and bottom of the tail shading it in to the brown (keeping the yellow sides plain) Paint on the legs and the eyes.
Step 4: Using the small brush and TAG white, paint the highlights across the back stripes, on the legs, pincers and up each segment of the tail.
At the tip of the tail add a starburst.

Well, I know, but he (my son) wanted them . And everybody else think the vikings had horns on their helmets anyway . I decided to make a fun version, with red beard and horns instead of a true version

YES, Most have horns on their helmets
Re: Post Submissions Here!
No Vikings had horn on the helmet, but some German tribes had and for some reason it has been mixed together.
Lonnie, I also paint red beard on my Vikings, it is just looking so much better =)

Re: Post Submissions Here!
It's face painting for kids, not a history lesson
This said... remember the old Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves movie? Talk about historical inaccuracy & the use of the word "Twit". Made me cringe!

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Yes, but here if I paint it with horn I will be lynched by at least three "Viking" dads *lol*
Re: Post Submissions Here!
I gave a history lesson at Bodyssey last month I painted Thor in the body painting competition and when we had to explain our design on the stage I told everyone it was Hollywood that invented horns on Vikings. Vikings didn't wear 'horns' they were just 'horny'...easy mistake to make
I'm loving the Mario Mandi! My only 'disappointed' customer was when a 12 year old asked for a Mario mustache. I wasn't familiar with Mario but followed a photo we found on the internet. Your design would have impressed him much more!

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Out of curiosity I googled "vikings" images and about half the pics had horns!
Here is the mascot for the US Football team Minnesota Vikings....even a national franchise shows the viking with horns, pretty crazy!!

So did your husband decide to take the plunge and start painting with you or what? It seems like he's got the bug and needs to get out there, tell him well done!
Re: Post Submissions Here!
'US Foofball' ... Our point exactly
I think it's because so many americans have ancestors from the British Isles which is where the vikings liked to 'vacation'...they weren't always polite (like us Canadians) especially the ones that ate the red mushrooms with the white spots on them. The english word 'beserk' comes from those vikings' behaviour. They were the guys that gave Vikings a bad name.
So when hollywood decided to depict Vikings, the creative powers that be thought horns on helmets would look a lot scarier and the image stuck.
It's funny because the Scandinavian culture is now very calm, much less aggressive and confrontational than our ancestors.

Re: Post Submissions Here!

I think so, I even just got my first enquiry asking specifically if he could come paint. I think he was pretty stoked.
He think he has stolen my face painting bug! He needs to learn to share
