sorry there all out of order!! dont know how that happened!!! lol grrrrr...
Violin Concerto in Rainbow Face Paint
I had an idea for this right away but, as always, put it off till the last minute. In the mean time, I practiced that violin quite a bit! Suzy wanted something musical and she loves to play her violin. She also liked my split cakes (which I took to mean she liked the rainbow one. All the little girls do!)
I started with a bit of silver around one eye and down my cheek. Then I took my 1.5 inch flat brush and homemade rainbow cake and painted a fancy kind-of swirl down the side of my face. (Boy, it's hard painting on yourself. With a flat brush. And a rainbow.) Then with my black I put a treble clef sign by my eye and five little teardrops (for the five lines in a staff - Suzy you are lucky I know music theory too!). I painted some notes around that (OK it's even harder painting on yourself in BLACK!!). Then I added some white swirls and teardrops on top (that hid some mistakes but produced others but I think you get the idea. Again, painting backwards on myself)
Now paint a violin on the forehead and nose. I used some skin tone paint to draw a line down the middle so I would have a guide. Then I outlined the shape of the violin, filled in with brown, added gold highlights (painting across a nose is hard too!) and the black accents. White on top for more highlights and to hide any other mistakes... some gold glitter and... TADA!!!
And as a finishing touch you can add the bow to a finger so they can play their little violin!
Also, my first idea was to paint the violin on my arm but I realized that no matter how I held my arm I would end up with a twisted violin. Here's a shot of that...
A fun idea but I think doing it on the nose turned out good. And no twisting.

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Okay... so it is June 30th... I'm making dinner for mom and I, and I have to get my studio set-up for 9 a.m. tomorrow, and I have to style a wig before I go to bed....
Sorry, not going to get my "Rhubarb" design done. I honestly was going to do it today, but got involved in editing every page of my website which took all day...

I'm DQ'ed for not folliwng the rules but...
I wanted to show you my preliminary design anyway. I'm not going to have time to do the step by step shots, so I know this won't count for the challenge, but I wanted to share my odd request anyway. So here is my "Candy Butterfly":
We live about an hour - 90 minutes from Hershey, PA, so I wanted to include some candy from that major "local" landmark. The little flag on the top of the Hershey's Kiss reminded me of a Butterfly's Antenna. My Daughter suggested the body be a peppermint stick and then I used more peppermints to be the spots on the butterfly. The "Flowers" are obviously lollipops with glitter to make them sparkle like candy glass. I had fun designing this. I just wish I had more time to break it down into steps and to do it on a human, not just my practice head!

Re: Post Submissions Here!
yeah....I waited until the last minute.....ugh!
Didn't I learn anything from going to college? LOL!
My challenge was "something really bright, with neon colors... Like a mask maybe?? And I like cheetah prints"
OK, I used a homemade cake of DFX neon purple, Wolfe Sea Green (Turquoise) & DFX Neon Yellow, Kryolan Bronze, Wolfe Black & Loew-Cornell #4, & Loew-Cornell #2
Paint on the base:
Add outline with Wolfe Black and #4 brush.
Add Cheetah spots w/ #2 brush
add gold centers to the spots with Kryolan Bronze
TA-DA!~

Re: Post Submissions Here!
All the submissions are awesome! I got the donkey challenge but I didnt get to finish I was painting an Eeyore full face
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Sorry! I just didn't get time to do mine... between face painting gigs and getting ready for 18 family members to invade my house this week, there just wasn't time! I would LOVE to try it on my own... simply because I can't believe Suzy gave me something so perfect for me. Mine was to paint Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Nights in pinks and purples! That is one of my favorite artists and favorite paintings so I couldn't believe it when she gave me that one, but I just ran out of time
Everyone did such a fantastic job!!

Sorry, I missed the deadline for mine as well... My mom just had minor surgery & is getting tested for neurological stuff (memory issues) & they hubby threw his back... So my life has belonged to everyone but me for a few months....
So, the Zamboni face paint design will have to wait
