Re: big problem with dragons.help please
My kids are particularly squirmy with me but the eyes were the easiest because I guess they were nervous about me painting there so they didn't move at all!Psalmbook wrote:Gina, those are great dragons! I have a hard time painting the eyes on eyes w/ squirmy kids. I need to give it a try someday.
I read somewhere on here that someone used an red net bag (that comes with "Cuties" a.k.a. Clementine tangerines) as a stencil so I saved my last net bag and used a lighter color on a sponge to pounce a couple of times. On the green, I used a lighter green and on the purple I used silver. The only problem with that is my daughter got all obsessed with using the bag as a stencil and used up some paint and a lot of my computer paper to "practice" doing it. LOL!pixieface wrote:What did you use for the scales?
P.S. The green one got a little smudged especially around the mouth (as you can see) before I got photos.

I wondered if that was an orange bag! I'm going to try that....

Great idea for the orange bag! I was contemplating using a lingerie bag but think that it wouldn't get as good of an effect because of the lack of stiffness???

Re: big problem with dragons.help please
Here is a dragon that I enjoy doing.
Some times I make the body and tail longer.
I do it in green or black.
I have been known to get to worried about the hands and legs. Other artists ignore those and make it look more like a snake with wings and horns. I am just going to continue practicing. With the movie "How to Train Your Dragon" as a reference, I should get plenty of new ideas!

Cute little guy!
I also do the snake like dragon using an arty cake when a child wants it on the arm. I have yet to remember to get a pic & as often as I do it, I should.

Here is a current dragon.
And of course, I have the dragon I made for my logo.... don't paint this on anyone, but I like him.
Wow, that's really big. Ah well...

I struggle with dragons too. Mine always look like snakes with wings. I Can't paint claws to save my life.

IamGina - I LOVE that dragon! I haven't tried it yet, but it was painted with a TAG split.
anramire -- that is adorable!!! Sometimes for claws I draw a straight line, and the the ends are reverse teardrops. Works great with a Detailz wand... =)

Re: big problem with dragons.help please
On the "tribal for beginners" video at this link, do you or anyone know what kind of paper she is painting on?? It looks wipeable! I need something like this for practicing..... my girls can only handle so much.Terina wrote:http://www.sillyfarm.com/video_gallery/new_gallery/silly.php?strSearch=dragon
Here is the tutorial for it. I hope this link works...It is a really quick design. She shows it on a little girl. I always outline everything that I do and add glitter. I like to talk to the kids and spend some time with them but the actual painting itself is not hard and is very quick. And, any time that I use the arty cakes to do stuff like dinosaurs, or alligators, lizards...you know the usual stuff. I always get lots of wows even from the really simple things like this mask design. I think that they add a lot of punch to the simpler designs.
Re: big problem with dragons.help please
She commented on youtube that she is just using a laminated piece of paper.AllieDawn wrote:

Re: big problem with dragons.help please
So I'm a noob with this stuff and only get to paint when I have a little down time outside work when Daizy isn't using her paints.
I cant really help much but feel free to get ideas if there are any there
dragons attempted...
Hope to post my first dragons for a small local festival.....I had not planned to do them (barely any practice) but the boys begged and so I tried to do a design taught to me by Pam Trent at La Fete.
The boys really liked the design even though it was so primitive.

Umm..you may be a newb to face painting, but not to art. Those are amazing, I can do detailed stuff like that with colored pencils, or acrylics, maybe even oils but now with face paint. They are amazing. Along with your avatar. You rock
Re: big problem with dragons.help please

Mr. Daizy, is painting new to you or just face painting? Your execution w/ paint rocks!
