Mardi Gras Butterfly
Tools used:
Sponge
Size 2 round brush
Size 0 round brush
Paints Used
Fardel Liquid Facepaint, Metallic Green/Gold
DFX Metallic Yellow, Blue and Green
Snaz Turquoise
TAG black and white
Gold Glitter
Steps:
1. Outline the eye and the edge of the butterfly in the Fardel Metallic Green/Gold.
2. Fill in just under and above the eyelashes with the fardel Metallic Green/Gold,
3. Using a sponge blend the green out to fill out the wing
4. Using the size 2 round brush paint the lines down the center of the feather, 3 on the top wing and 2 on the bottom, all heading toward the inside corner of the eye.
4. At the tip of each line paint a circle using the DFX Metallic Yellow, varying the sizes. The largest spot on the center top feather towards the tip of the wing.
5. Inside the yellow spots paint a smaller spot using the Snaz Turquoise.
6. And inside the turquoise spot paint an even smaller spot or half circle using the DFX Metallic Blue. Also add a few dark blue feather strokes off the stem.
7. Using the DFX Metallic Green and the size 0 round, finish the feathers. (Lots of quick fine S shapes heading up) Also add some green dots around the bottom and middle of the wings, as well as varying dots on the nose to create the body and antennae.
8. Using the TAG Black and the size 0, add some shaddows to the feathers and bottom of the spots.
9. Using the TAG White and size 2 brush, add your highlights. A highlight dot on each of the yellow and blue feather tips, and each of the green dots.
Also add some extra dots along some of the feather strokes and a few star bursts.

Re: Post Submissions Here!
I think they are all wonderful designs but sometimes I miss that butterfly effect.
Than it seems more like a eye design to me.

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Heres my attempt. It's nowhere near as good as others, but its something different, and I was tyring to think out of the bag etc. It's my first time entering a competition, and so hopefully I'll enter more. This is a way of me remembering just hnow bad I was in months to come too haha
Its a Diwali Elephant - with ears formed from the shape of a butterfly. Diwali is the hindu festival of light and considered a holiday in their culture. The blue elphant (Ganesh) is popular in more than one religion, and he symbolises New Beginnings, which I though was quite fitting for me as well. So here is my Diwali Festival Butterfly
Colours used - All Snaz, Sparkle Turquiose, Sky Blue, Turqouise, White, Black. no sponges just one flat brush, the others are being replaced as they got left in water :'(

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Eventertainments,
Try using the boiling water method on your old brushes, (it works!) you might be able to save a couple that way.

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Love the "Holiday Butterfly" theme. But with Christmas soon approaching. I would love to see something devoted to "Christmas Butterflies"
