I've been face painting for a year but don't put too many pics up. I'm starting to get busier now & can use all the help I can get. I did these 2 dragons a while ago on the same day. trying to use a simple one stroke design on the 1st & the 2nd a more elaborate one. These were done on those thin plastic cutting boards.
Easy one stroke:

more complicated:

wow the 2nd one is great---you have an Asian flare to it in my mind. Love it! The head is so hard for me to get!
plus this is a great shape--with a few changeds you can make it into a lot of stuff

turn green---you have an aligator
turn blue and change legs you have a dolphin or shark
turn greyish and change back legs and you a have a dinasour!

nice!
Is this is a one stroke?

NieleA,
Thanks for the compliment. Smile Those two designs were the very first I ever did, I'm trying to get a new one started as soon as my grandson agrees to let me paint him.

AffordableFaceMagic,
That second dragon is awesome!! The curve of the body gives it a ready to pounce kind of look and the face is perfect. Great job!

Daisy Stitch,
I like both of your designs.
Although I think your unicorns are pretty fancy, I especially like the first one with the flowers and starburst.

go back to newbie challenge #3? Line work--get those suckers down! You can do it, just practice and use different brushes and different paint types---I love using a round brush and Wolfe or paradise for teardrops--after getting them with that brush and paint it was easier to change brushes and paint and get them correct.

OK ladies----I am in need of some more ideas---I have a few, but I am interested in what YOU want to practice and never do--but should Smile I can keep coming up with my own--if I am up for suggestions!

Amylady222,

Here's my idea...I'm thinking flower flower I can only do them decent when I do them over and over, and flowers are pretty popular with the girls and the older ladies too.

Amylady, I used just the orange & yellow from my DFX rainbow cake on the 1st dragon, highlighting/creating lines w/either side of the edge of the 3/4 flat brush. This is a really helpful thread. Thanks for doing this.
Faces by Belle, Thank you! Google images is a wealth of inspiration. I often take pics w/my IPhone of greeting cards, masks, animals, carpets, even wallpaper! I recently stopped @ a rest area & snapped a few belt buckles in a display. They had a tiger, snake & skeleton that were AWESOME! You never know when you are going to find an inspiration.

This little man is a guy I babysat for a few hours for a few days--lots of issues with this one--started out life in a hard way and is now learning to talk and potty train-I didn't think he would let me paint him-BUT when I painted his face I have never seen him hold so still -- I think cheek art is SUPER hard and those little cheeks don't give much room--

and I had some black glitter sheets from walmart last year and found them while putting out halloween stuff---didn't work very well pretty much just smuged up what I had--should have taken a picture before--looked better!

Amylady222,
Your dragon is very nice. I love the wing span on the dragon and the dark blue moon in the back looks cool. Cheek art is so much harder, you did a terrific job! Smile

AffordableFaceMagic - you're much better at dragons than I am! I can't do arty-drawingy (yes, that's a technical term!) face art. Love it.

Daisy - your unicorns are great, and it's so nice to see another newbie posting in here. Smile

Mslalahoney - Love your dragon so much! Gorgeous use of colours, lovely shape and it even matches the clothes your beautiful little model is wearing. Great job!

Amylady - fabulous cheek art dragon! I love the almost silhouette-like image over the moon, and the colours are deep and mysterious whilst still allowing the other colours to shine through. I may be....borrowing your design. Wink

Gah. Only a couple of days left to get my design in. I need to get my mojo together and wrestle some painting time during daylight hours....of which there now aren't that many where I live. Scotland's a pretty dark land during the winter months! I need some daylight bulbs, methinks.

Wish I had a whole wall of them sometimes! sunny

PS I'm not able to get on the forum as much lately...MANY apologies if I skip commenting on anyone's pictures, it isn't because I don't want to!! It's just so hard to catch up when you're behind. Neutral But I am ENJOYING THEM ALL!!!
Keep up the good work everyone!

Amylady, maybe a good idea to work on our Skulls this week? Not zombi's or sugar skulls, but the basic ones... so we can practice at shading and the bone structure.

Great minds think alike, Daphne - I was thinking the same thing the other day. Smile

Daphne---I LOVE your fun face --but your second to last dragon looks---well a little happy if you get my drift. I do like the wing placement off the back!

seriously--your nose work on your full face dragon is wonderful!

Kammy--I don't think I wil be your avatar twin anytime soon!! Sorry!!
but I am loving it! That is a great red--what is it? I have the mini wolfe pallet and I am totally loving Wolfe and Paradise---

Well, you're just NO FUN! Laughing What's wrong with my avatar that nobody wants to be the same???
That is a great red--what is it? I have the mini wolfe pallet and I am totally loving Wolfe and Paradise---
It's actually just Wolfe red and a tiny bit of Wolfe black, mixed. I needed a deep, bloody, runny red (I dabbed and dribbled it down my cheeks) and didn't have anything up to the job, so I mixed it. It was a bit of a kerfuffle, so I now have Snazaroo cake blood, which is stainy as anything but a great, gory colour! Hope I get to do a couple of bleeding skulls at my gig... Laughing
