Newbie Challenge # 5 & 6
Since I am doing two weeks together I thought I would choose a new title.
We have had
Newbie Challenge #1 & #2: Spidey & Butterflys
Newbie Challenge #3 & #4: Tigers & Lines
Since we have a "open post" for other facepainting (YEAH!) I am going to go ahead and do a specific challenge.
so the challenge for this upcoming week----
Unicorns.
If you struggle like I do--In fact I don't think I have ever done a unicorn--they look so hard---untill I saw this video. I could wait to try one after seeing this!

You have a week! Enjoy!
I love when I find something to help me kick some painting butt! Thanks to FEE for doing this video!

Re: Newbie Challenge # 5 & 6
I can't get a good photo of this AT. ALL.....but here it is anyway, my first unicorn ever!
I'll do another one soon, and try to get a decent photo by doing it on my leg instead of my arm.

Re: Newbie Challenge # 5 & 6
Great Unicorn Kammy! It is way better than my current Uni! Love the detail in the hair
Re: Newbie Challenge # 5 & 6
Thanks, Amy and Tia. I'm quite pleased with it, and will try to do more of them so I can get my time down a bit. It's nice having that first gig behind me, so that I can branch out more and practice random things, instead of only concentrating on the designs on my board.
Isn't face painting amazing? Art- and community-wise, I don't think I've ever encountered anything quite like it.

Perhaps they've all suddenly got tons of face painting work....?amylady222 wrote:It just seems like compaired to the first challange we have a lot less activity in this challenge
In any case, I love the newbies who ARE here, and I'm really enjoying the challenges, even if I am sometimes a bit late with them. Thanks for doing these.

Maybe when we see newbie people in the "introductions" thread we can invite them here to join us?

Your unicorn's great, Daphne - but I really love the butterfly on the left, too! You have a real eye for colour and the wings are such a pretty shape.

Figured out my company isn't coming till next week and I have a few hours before kids come home, so I am off to paint a unicorn!

amylady222,
I'm glad you liked my video .
I didn't paint the unicorn, but took a video and edited it. Susan was demoing another unicorn (Fee Jackson's) too, but the video didn't turn out good.
This is one stroke unicorn by Fee Jackson:

Re: Newbie Challenge # 5 & 6
Katerra--Thanks for taking the credit! I am really bad at doing that! I know that ticks people off big time and I am sorry!
I do like the video and the Fee Jackson one is great too--I watched the other video and I like that also! So much Talent out there.
This is what I did today---I would watch videos and copy their style--then I did one at the end that way a combo of what I liked and made my own style.
Here you go!
1st one I did--
Not sure whose video this was--some random person on youtube, but I didn't follow it very well. I Like the eye of this one
Like this one--needs work
The Evil hutchback Unicorn---has potential--needs work
I liked this ones, but --needs work (Lets just assume they ALL need work)
This is the one I did on my own--guess it looks like unicorns are on the Need to perfect list!

Leilani - gorgeous, delicate black line work on your unicorn. It really gives movement to the mane. :-)
Doe - I can't see your first one because it's so big, sorry! My unicorn was inspired by Fee Jackson too. I guess I watch so many tutorials these days, I presume everyone will see the influence, and then have to slap myself when I realise they might've not seen the same tutorials as me. I like the shape of your second design, too. On an unrelated topic....you are SO going to love your new FAB paints. Much of my kit is Superstar (the same stuff) and I love the colours and texture, though the latter can take a little getting used to. Do you already have FAB, lots of stash, or are you just building a kit? What do you have so far? Curious cat, here.
EDITED TO ADD: Scrap that. I just read on another thread that you have a good stash of FAB already. And now you'll have even more. Wahey!
Amy - I love that you've posted lots, so we can see the evolution of your unicorn as you practice different styles. I like the third one best too, with its magical, gentle colours and curly mane. The last two look like they're wearing ponytails, which is appropriate and made me giggle. Yeah. I've not had my morning coffee yet.
Great work, newbie lounge! Love seeing all these unicorns, and getting ideas for my own designs too.
