Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Thanks, I love painting tigers
I seem to have lost the original pic, but there's one of my better designs

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Jessica, your white tiger is just stunning!! Great photo, too. Love your butterfly, too. I want to be able to paint properlyyyyy!
Do you mind if I have a slight style-crush on your work?

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Bit off-topic, but I just wanted to say: don't be sorry! It's been from birth and it's never held me back. Yes, it makes it hard to paint my own face because I have to do my seeing eye by touch (can't see the mirror if my hand's there, LOL) but otherwise...it's no biggie! Binocular vision is for people who can't handle mono.facesbybelle wrote:Sorry about your vision but quite honestly your design is really good.

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
This is my very first tiger, I didn't know any better and put on nice big black whiskers lol.
Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Kammy, I'm flatteres that you have a style-crush on me
And I didn't mean to sound rude about the whiskers, I really hope it didn't come across that way!!!
I'm trying to save the heartache, whiskers are for *ahem* kitties, not ferocious Tigers!

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
I think you're right. I even have to be careful with kitty whiskers as they can make a design look messy so quickly. I've only ever painted 3 tigers (one was a baby Snazaroo-style cub on my little boy, other two were on myself) and I think they definitely look far neater and less crowded with dots instead of whiskers.Face Painting by Jessica wrote:I'm trying to save the heartache, whiskers are for *ahem* kitties, not ferocious Tigers!

Tina,
Your tiger is cute! Whiskers and all! I think the way you painted the tiger across the top of the face allows for whiskers, 'cos it doesn't cross over any "tiger lines."

Not at all haha...I thought it looked "off" to say the least (even before the whiskers, but especially after they were added!)
Re: Newbie Challenge #2
today was homecoming parade and I painted (badly) 26 kids in an hour---most wanted a spider (Haunted homecoming --the preschool were spiders)--Thank goodness for my round sponges or else I would have got it done!
Here is also a face I painted for a friend of mine -- we were sitting next to each other waiting for the parade to come down our little main street.
She told me to do anything I wanted--since I knew she would be seen around town I thought I better do something I am a little comfortable with---Still see lots of mistakes with it!

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Amylady222, I like this tiger design. I think your lines are alot cleaner and love the use of purple and rainbow color they work well together, also the way you lined the eyes. Great job!
Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Here was one of my favorite attempts at a tiger (well half):
This was with one of my BGC kids (she was a sparkly little lion):

It's going great thank you so much for asking!
My presentation is scheduled about 2 weeks from now. I'm so excited, ill definitely have to share the demonstration portion of it!
Re: Newbie Challenge #2
My very first attempt at a tiger. One big black and yellow mess
Don't have a picture of my tigers now, but I will make and upload one maybe tomorrow! Great way to try out my new Silly Farm rainbow cake 'Juicy Fruit'!
Love to see how everyones tigers are, and to see how everyone is getting better and better!

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Katurah and Maris, great job on you first tiger designs. So nice to see everyones take a the tiger!
Re: Newbie Challenge #2
It's not actually that different from my first, but here's a couple of tigers I did this weekend, as my second submission. I'm saying it's my second submission because they ARE a bit different in style - they cut off at the cheeks so that people can still eat/drink in them.
Hope that's OK for the challenge! Less than a week to go until my first gig, so I'm madly trying to practice just the things on my board.

Okay, I'm going to jump in, I have two, one is quick, the other was was inspired by Brian Wolfe... I still shake when someone askes for one, I don't have shading down anyway... here they are
Re: Newbie Challenge #2
ladies This was FUN!! Not as many pictures as the last challenges, but still great!!
THIS NEXT CHALLENGE isn't as "fun", but is IMPORTANT!
LINES---that is all I want you to do---Thick lines, Thin lines, round "lines", tear drops, and any other lines possible.
You don't need to make this into a design. You can practice on your own arm just as well as a face for these....
Again, not great "fun" but a skill we all need to develope/perfect in order to make a good impression!!
next week should be a fun one thanks to a suggestion by a fellow Newbie (thanks Nielea)---check in next week for the challenge!
I will post some "example" pictures when my computer isn't acting up--hopefully later today!

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Kammy, I like your tigers! Cute how you did the nose in a heart shape on the little boy. These designs are perfect, the challenge is to come up with different designs. They can be full and half face or even eye designs.
Re: Newbie Challenge #2
mslalahoney, I love your first tiger the blending is good and love the bold llines
Second tiger is pretty cool, very unique

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Amylady222, This next challenge is exactly what all newbies need to practice, and practice. I do ok teardrops and linework at home when painting myself or my kids, but when out on a gig with the pressure to move fast I lose it
Today I did a school festival and was soooo happy that almost all the designs came out pretty decent. The only ones I had trouble with were the darn butterflies!! Thank goodness that out of 43 kids I only had 5 full face butterflies
Thank you so much for starting this thread, it's been a great help and motivates me to post pics more often.

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
I know I already did this challenge, but I feel like I cheated a bit with the tiger masks as they weren't all that different from my original "no reference" tiger. So I thought I'd do my very first rainbow tiger. I'm not happy with it, but as that's not the point....here it is!
My other half is working right now so I had to take the photo on my phone...sorry for the low quality!
Cian says he's scared of me when I'm painted as a tiger. I said rainbow tigers are friendly, and they eat ice cream instead of little boys. He's OK with me looking like this, now.
Kammy x

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Mslalahoney, nice job on your tigers! Your? little boy looks happy to be painted...like maybe he isn't at the stage you have to bribe him to be painted.
AmyLady, Twenty-six kids in an hour!!! wow. I'm sure the kids loved what you did, even if they were simple. Painting your friend’s cute tiger face must have made your wait for the parade a lot more fun! Maybe I’ll take a friend next time I have to wait in the doctors office.
Kammy, you better not be a rainbow tiger tooo often...I hear ice cream is especially fattening for rainbow tigers! (Great job, by the way. Did you use a sponge or brush to paint the rainbow?)

Re: Newbie Challenge #2
Thanks! I used a sponge and a Snaz 4-colour rainbow cake for the colours. I did the white areas first with a 3/4" filbert, then the rainbow, then the line work.NieleA wrote:Kammy, you better not be a rainbow tiger tooo often...I hear ice cream is especially fattening for rainbow tigers!
