Well, for those in Iowa, you have to pay sales tax on face painting- I just checked with the IDR, man they tax us on EVERYTHING here! Good thing I was doing that all last year anyways!

wow scgilland, we don't collect sales tax here in Mississippi on face painting. I had to request a letter ruling from the state tax commission. I made copies of it and submit the letter with my 0 tax form when they come to pick up the sales tax.

Quick question...does your GazePro take one or two people to set up??

I had a great day at the markets today, and put and and put down my gaze pro tent on my own. No worries. It took a while but there was nothing difficult about it. Except for getting it back in the bag at the end of the day. I was starting to scratch my head and wonder if I'd ever get the zip done up when my neighbour showed me to hold the bag vertically. Made a big difference.

So proud of myself for being able to do it all on my own (except for the zipper part, lol), and happy to have a professional looking set up.

^ good to know that it IS possible - I've looked at tents lots of times and ruled out pretty much all of them because they're two person set-up. I wouldn't want to get stuck unable to set up/pack up somewhere because I didn't have anybody to help me.

Cut me some slack here, we don't do many festivals. The main one we do is called Patchwork, it's an indie arts and crafts fair. We have a small 5x5 EZ-Up, which is a tough size to find. We got that size because we couldn't afford a 10x10 space at the festival. Razz It's a tight squeeze but we make it work! I did most of the work on our sign, and we also made our 'menu' hangers.

Festival Setups! - Page 5 2012-011
My partner in crime Alex at the festival today. I wish I had a more zoomed-out picture to show our whole setup at once.

Festival Setups! - Page 5 Img_2310
Menu board--this was taken last year, our designs have definitely improved! We were trying to cater designs to a more "hipster" crowd (didn't work). Ideally I would love to have a high quality close up photo of each design, but bleh.

To put it up solo, get it out of the bag, walk the legs out a bit, then get in underneath it and push it up from the centre til it pops, to get it back in the bag solo the easiest way is to fold it in, then turn the folded up gazebo UPSIDE DOWN so the legs bit is at the top, then put the bottom/hard bit of the bag onto the legs part which is much easier when it is at eye level like this, then turn it right way up, put the top of the bag on, then zip, Hopefully that makes sense, cause it's soo much easier this way! Sorry it's so huge, it wouldn't let me shrink it tonight so whatever! I make most of my money from henna at festivals so mine is more of a henna space targeting a slightly older demographic, for facepainting it is same branding and colours, less seating and sometimes boards to choose from although lately not, I just ask what they want and if they want it done basic ($3) standard ($5), or delux ($10) I'm loving how people hear the word deluxe and choose that, especially if there are other parents there listening. Wink
It's empty cause I'm was about to close up - I take valuables, paints, henna home then zip up the walls. Luckily at many of my jobs I know the security so they have my number if they need to get in touch.

New festival season, so we've changed up a little bit and thought I'd post the one we just set up today. Glitterfly and I are doing this festival together so this is our shared set up. I do face painting and balloons, she does face painting, glitter tattoos and hair feathers.

I would think shower curtains will blow wild in the breeze unless you run twine or something through the bottom pocket and attach to the poles. I just finally ordered some walls today...I can't hold out any longer. I paid $80 on Amazon from HutShop.

i got tarps off of ebay they were 6x10 i fold them in half to make half walls and if I need to i can make full walls...I never raise my tent up all the way..and the half walls makes it where the kids can't get to your kit but they can still watch while in line...ebay has the tarps for about 15.oo each i have 3.. you can get them cheaper...these were the heavy duty ones.
just go to ebay and search for white 6x 10 tarps they will come up

How fun to get a peek into everyone's fp lives!

I did something similar to Denise Cold, and made an interior line. That lasted for a whole day. We had another fp'er next to us (I KNOW!!) and it was confusing that we weren't the same booth. So we moved the stanchions out into the walk-way to create division on the second day.

I will be changing it this weekend, to see it I like something a little better, but I liked having an intentional setup.

BTW, I have fabric that goes over my tables, but I didn't put it on the tables the first day. We were expecting severe thunderstorms and flash flooding, and I wanted to be able to cut and run fairly quickly.

if it is a multiple day event, you usually set up on the first day and leave the big stuff there overnight. If it is a single day thing, I don't bring as much stuff. Here are two pictures, one is a full festival and one is my market (half day) set up, so you can see the difference. For a multiple day festival, I bring home all the stuff that fits into my FatMax (paints, money, etc.) home each night and the rest stays there with the walls closed up. Most events have security overnight to make sure people aren't going into the tents.

I don't get much opportunity to set up a whole booth or to take photos of it. I really prefer parties where I don't have to have a booth. But, I finally took a shot of my set up during a pet adoption event:

Festival Setups! - Page 5 Booth10

-click on it to see the whole thing

I usually put my chair and kit where the kit is on the right side of the chair and somewhere under the tent where the shade will be the longest. This day, I actually ended up moving my chair and kit because I didn't have a lot of customers and the shade moved away from me. Smile

The tall stool is for adults or teens that don't want to climb into the chair. The kit is Artists On The Go, there is a mirror clamped to the left back leg of the canopy so they can keep looking at their face, the purple chair pads are to keep them sitting up straight and closer to me (closer to the edge), and the "FREE" sign is just for that event. It actually says "FREE face painting sponsored by PetCo"
