A few months ago I did a local Art,crafters and music festival. I had lots of customers children and adults alike. A man walked by i'm guessing around the age of 55-60 .The man looked at my crew and said what are they doing here they are not artist nor do they play music. That statment made me sad .I think of the skin as my canvas . Sad

Aw, I'm sorry. Some people just don't get it. Artists get it enough from the outside world without community art snobbery.

I get the same thing from my family sometimes. I was super excited to get some studio time to do some body painting with some models. A number of family members would ask, "What are you doing that for?" They don't get art for the sake of art. I get a lot of that with belly painting too. My mom just doesn't get why a woman would want it. She doesn't give me a hard time about it, but I definitely know not to go looking to her for praise.

Try not to let it get you down. You don't have to address the issue with the guy, cause you probably won't change his mind and it will only get you angry in the process. Just be confident in your skills and in the wonderful body of work that's out there. (Pun wasn't intended, but it's funny!)

Some people will tell you your art is beautiful... others will see it as cute for the kids. Some will tell you that you don't charge enough... others will scoff at how expensive you are. There's no pleasing everyone and there's no sense arguing with anyone, you never win.

For now, bask in the loving community of a forum that understands. I love you

Can you tell me what artist was appreciated at the same time they created their art? The greats where usally appreciated later on and the were so moved to create they weren't concerned about what other people thought yet they changed history. Do your thing and don't worry about the losers walking around with nothing but time on their hands being unproductive judging others and putting them down.
