FESTIVAL SET-UP
So I was just wondering for those of you that offer both henna and face painting how you go about your set-up. I've noticed from a decor point of view the face paint set-ups are pretty functional - basic and simple (still look great though). When I started henna I worked for a lady up north and her business is called Henna Harem. And her festival set-up is MINDBLOWING! It's basically a mobile harem. Flowing fabrics, flowers, sparkles, rugs, fans, comfy seats. And it really works - whilst it may be a big job to set up, at a festival people take one look and want to come in and sit all day - so they end up covered in henna from head to toe just so they can stay in there. Even her market set-up is pretty lush and opulent and again people just want to come in and sit there so they'll pay the big $$ for large henna.
So When I branched out on my own I took this theory and put my own spin on it - so I have my massage bed (I'm also a massage therapist) covered in lush fabric, plus lots of cushions, flowing fabric etc. Seats, dangly sparkly things etc.
Do others do this or do you do a pared down set-up? And do you push one over the other? Like for instance I could do a $40 henna in the time it takes to do two full face detailed faces so am making double the cash doing that buuut not so many people know of henna here in the stix so I am sure of a line if I push the face paint but working harder for the bucks???

Re: FESTIVAL SET-UP
(just to clarify I now live about 16hrs away from my old boss so my branching out doesn't affect her business at all
Re: FESTIVAL SET-UP
I am only just getting going with henna but i did see a simple set up by a fp who also does henna. Her booth was two tables aligned like an "L" with books displaying fp and henna designs. There was room to step into the booth (tent) and sit while the artist did what ever you wanted, THEN there were also some chairs along the back of the tent for waiting or for letting henna dry abit. They used groovy Indian cotton printed bed throws as the back drop walls and on the tables....
Nice look and flow in and out just for paying customers.

Re: FESTIVAL SET-UP
Some henna artists like the whole Moroccan living room look while others like more minimal.
When we have more then one artist we will set up one side for henna and the other for face paint. Generally we will have 2 chairs in the back with a round fancy Indian style table between. Then we have a small table that goes up front with books on it and we have posters that are the same as the books on the wall for henna. Then a table that goes along the other side with a tall chair next to it and a poster for facepaint. We use table cloths to brighten up the booth.
I find the living room look works for sangeets but not festivals. I have a tiny car and can't haul that much stuff. I also find people do not hang out in your booth just to hang out so much when you have the minimal set up.
