I did my first festival!
I'm still a new face painter, just some parties here and there, but I've been an artist for ever and I've really been enjoying face painting. Well, my kids' school was having their fall festival and the face painters cancelled about two weeks before so PTO asked me. I was super nervous because our school student body is around 1,500 kids and fall festival would be the biggest event I've ever done so I asked for a volunteer to help prep faces with the sponge or something. Just someone to help (I kind of regret that now but my volunteer was a very sweet girl). Long story short, I did around 50 faces in about 2½ hrs (mostly frozen), I wish I would have kept an actual count though. My face paint booth was the most popular and has a consistent line of kids. I'm going to use the artist's rule and put half my paycheck back into my supplies. Lord knows I need it after last night!

Re: I did my first festival!
Congratulations! Isn't it addictive? Don't we get to have the best job ever?!
My suggestion would be: natalieKeep the helper, but next time put them on line control...making sure hair is pinned out of the way, faces are clean, noses are wiped, design choice is made (on a post-it, so it is "set in stone"). It'll feel luxurious!

That's what I was thinking after. I should have had her on line control. I had absolutely no time to chat with parents or try and "sell myself" for other gigs. It would have been better to have her help with that.
