Soft Scrub Basin

I did a DIY brush basin and glued a cheepy dollar store suction cup to my brush back.. It is easy to pop out for cleaning..

Thought I'd post this: I am still using my homemade scrub basin with the surgical brush attached by silicone... I think I made it the first week of February. It continues to be awesome... and it has gotten more use this summer than I care to think about. I highly recommend making one to keep the cleanest water possible at gigs & events. I used a $2 plastic tub with 3 compartments from Target that has a handle.... glued the brush to the bottom of the largest compartment and that's where I add my Brush Bath. The 2 smaller compartments are plain water and I use one strictly as my clean dip.

Took a class 2 weeks ago from Pashur and Jay and they thought it was pretty cool.

I actually cut mine in half and now put it in a compartment in my fatmax right beside my brushes Still loving it and it really keeps my brushes in good shape and nice and clean

after fighting with glues, velcro, etc. I found that if I leave the brush JUST as Gilded Cat sends it (don't cut off that little ridge on the bottom) I can bend it just enough to wedge those folded down sections in the ridges section of my brush basin. The cleaner brush stays in tight enough when water is added for me to wash my brush, I just have to be careful to keep it wedged in tightly when I dump dirty water for clean, but it's nice to be able to remove the brush cleaner for heavy duty cleaning after a gig.

I love this idea! Anyone know where I can get these scrubbies for a decent price (and not in a pack of 20 or 50!) in the UK? I've had a look on eBay but seem to be coming up with nothing useful.

I'm attaching some pictures of the brushes I re-purposed from my job in case anyone wants to see. I can cram up to probably six or seven in a package for a total of $2.46 through Paypal or $2.10 if you mail me a check or carefully concealed cash (you assume the risk of mailing cash, of course). That's what it costs me to ship ($0.15 envelope + $1.95 postage + paypal fee). This is the exclusive price for FPF members because you guys rock. If someone who isn't on the forum wants one, tell them its a million dollars.

3/4 view so you can see the ridges on the back that used to hold the sponge. If anyone wants me to keep the sponge attached, I can do that, too. Note, it has been saturated with Betadine (iodine scrub), and while I rinse the sponge out, I can't guarantee it doesn't still have trace amounts of iodine in it.


Here's a pic of one of the brushes dropped down into the scrubby well of those square brush rinse things (mine was from Michael's, it was about $5-6 if I remember correctly). If you cut another sponge in half, you could probably fit 1.5 scrubbies in there to cover up the whole ridged section. I don't really use my scrub brushes this way, but I've heard this is popular.

We're not a charity, but we do have a donor-assisted fund which serves to help partially pay for the emergency treatment for animals when their owners can't afford the costs. I have been donating the extras into this fund. It seems right since these brushes come from surgeries which occur at the hospital.

GildedCat, just checking but is your offer still available? And to everyone, what was determined as the best method to attaching them to the bottom of the bigger basin shown, I just purchased on last night from Michaels? With the ability to remove and change out if needed?

After you've procured your surgical brush you can buy a tube of squeezable clear silicone sealant at your favorite hardware store (make sure it's self-squeezing and not the kind you use with the silicone gun)

Remove the sponge part from the surgical brush (if it has a sponge side). If there is now a ridge on either side where the sponge was you can slice that off with a sharp blade of some sort, making sure that you do not slice off a finger since it is hard to face paint with a missing digit.

Arrange the brush(es) the way you want them in the bottom of your bin.

Now, apply lots of sealant and set back down in place. Don't push hard or you will force the sealant out from underneath the brush(es). Let it sit for probably until hardened.

Just thought I'd let you all know this. After just under of year of constant use, including one hellacious summer of numerous county fairs and festivals, my surgical scrub brush is starting to lose bristles daily. They float to the top - it took me a while to figure out what those strange things in my water were! (At first I thought they were from my paint brushes)

I am in need of a new one....anybody got an extra?

I am very interested in getting some of these brushes as well.

Hiya, Sorry I haven't gotten back to everyone. I've transitioned from a FT manager to a FT student starting last week. I'm working only a short part time shift at the hospital and I will pick up more scrubbies next time I'm in and get them mailed. Sorry for the delay!
