Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
face paint doesn't last really long in hair, but I can't imagine that pastels would last a long time either... just like face painting, it is fleeting, but fun while it lasts.
Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
I can't see how this would be done to dark hair. If the hair was dyed a lighter color then the hair would probably absorb the color of chalk pastels for a short period of time, but it seems like alot of bother for not much result.

Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
If the hair is really dark, I will pat on some white with a sponge, and then pat the next color over it. I have never used hairspray on it. It is a great idea, though. I have been doing this for the last 10 years at SickKids.
Wide orange streaks, edged with white, running lengthwise down the hair with black tiger streaks running horizontally is quite eye catching for tigers.
The Interferenz Copper and Gold looks amazing in hair.

Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
As soon as I read this I tried it on Hannah's hair. I have tons of pastels lying around. This is what I found about the oil pastels....the darker colors were ok, but it was a little bit of work getting them on her hair and her color is like a honey blonde color like mine. It didn't really look that great in my opinion.
We tried the chalk pastels instead and I think that they work much better. But, it is dust so, it came off of course everywhere. We sprayed it with freeze it. And that helped and it seems like it is not coming off on her clothes. I had her hair braided in little braids.
We do make over parties and do crazy hair styles, and I use temp spray. But, at the fairs, I use the regular face paints and they work fine. The Tag cakes work great. I had one lady at the fair get her hair painted to match her eye designs every day and the Magnolia cake was awesome in her her. It stayed until the next day, but it was much lighter. The DFX neons in the hair are AWESOME!

Lovin' those picture off of Pinterest, but not thinking it is something that will provide long (enough) lasting results to make money off of.

Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
Well, I tried this on my own hair, and alas, either it doesn't work on very dark hair or I have crappy pastels.....or both. Bummer.
But I have just discovered hair tinsel and that would certainly show up in my hair!

Yes, yes I am!
Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
Love the idea of starblends in the shorter dark hair, cool to see how it turns out
Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
Here is a lovely example of what I would love to do for photos one day (found on DeviantArt & she used dyes):
Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
its easiest if you put a large rainbow cake on a sponge and drag it down your hair, not dab, hard habit to break when we dab on the face!
Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
I like to use fp on hair, but I use a stencil first, then apply. Looks really cool to have zebra stripes in your hair

Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
My teenage daughter just saw these pics and said she wants this in her hair every time we do a gig LOL!
Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
When I used the face paint on the hair on those kids, it seemed to last all day on them, and isn't that all we want? Most parents wouldnt want a semi permanent color on a childs hair, I think one day is fine, but if you are planning on swimming that day, not so much!
Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
Wow. so how much are you charging for this upsell? It looks really cool. A good use of Neon colors too, I bet! I had been thinking of using my airbrushes, but why bother if you can get these results without it? Maybe for the stencils? My mind is blown again...
Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
Ive been playing around with paint in the hair. like little boy mohawks. but never thought of using it for an upsell. great idea thanks. Super cute pics btw. cute models too.

Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
Be very careful working with hair without a license. In some states the fines are very steep

still trying to find an answer to this, not finding anything...
Re: New Trend...Hair Chalking?
has anyone here ever been fined for putting face paint on peoples faces or hair? Just curious, or is it easily dismissed?
