Hair Chalking? Empty Hair Chalking?

Post by Keesh Fri Mar 28, 2014 12:45 pm

I'm looking to add a few new services to my face painting and I was wondering if anyone did hair chalking? I know how to do it and sometimes I wear it to fairs when I'm panting. I get a lot of good comments about it. I just dont know if it would be ok to do it without a cosmetology licence. Does anyone know?

I offer hair chalking if I have an assistant with me, otherwise it becomes too much of a hassle.  Also, I set mine with a hair iron which can last for up to 3 days so I always get parents permission first.  Same with eyelashes and henna.  Anything that won't wash off right away is only for 18+ or with parents permission.
I don't know about cosmetology license though, I think it depends on the laws where you are. Make sure your insurance will cover that as well.

In most states without a cosmo license you can get yourself fined pretty hefty. I have seen the hair feathers at a fair in my state..she was not using disinfectant for hair combs and a local salon owner turned her in. She was fined a few thousand dollars. I am always cautioning us face painters adding cosmo services in their booths for this reason. I see nail polish service, hair feathers, hair braiding, hair wrapping with string and chalking...all fall under cosmo regulations and in most states need to have someone holding a cosmo license. Our insurance does not cover these things. I would check with your state laws before proceeding.

LOL I guess I should have stated that my assistant has a cosmetology license, derp!!
She is a big help, she does the line control, takes pictures, chalks hair, adds eyelashes and does the register.

Yes, we do hair chalking from time to time...I have a licensed cosmetologist on staff as required by the State of California.  We use Mehron INtense Pro in the hair, the color is bright! and washes out easily even on light color treated hair.

Starblend and Paradise or Kryolan works great too. And of course we airbrush in the hair. Lots of fun designs...we have some cool original stencils we have created too bad more people do not choose this for events!
