just watched a youtube click where the lady used water activated face paints (is that different then our dxf, wolfe, snaz, and others?) and make colorful streaks in the hair--
does it work? anyone tried it?

Re: face paint in hair?
It works. It's the same as DFX, TAG, etc. I've used it for whitening hair for old age makeup. Several others have mentioned it as well in other threads. You can also use hair chalk.

Re: face paint in hair?
At SickKids Hospital..
I will paint some white and orange into a child's hair and add some Diamond F/X Pearl Black stripes over the other colors in the hair. I have sponged in some white, and added black polka dots in the hair for a Dalmatian. It washes out beautifully.
I have never used Wolfe Black in hair. If it stains the skin... it must stain the hair.
Happy painting!

Re: face paint in hair?
I practiced on my youngest daughter, Holland when she was 2 years old. Holland had green and purple horizontal stripes in her hair for about a month. The yellow left a kind of yellow haze in her white blond hair.
I took those colors out of my kit. That was over 13 years ago.
Ooooh!
I can't WAIT to see what kind of a retirement home my children will pick for ME when I get old. I hope they don't remember the face painting experiments that I perpetrated upon them.

Re: face paint in hair?
Love the hair streaks! I use green for my joker face and it really makes it pop. Question for those who use a split cake to create streaks: do you use a sponge or brush?
Re: face paint in hair?
Wow! I can't wait to try this! I've been eyeballing the chalks but am not too crazy about having to use leave in conditioner under and hairspray over because I have long hair! I act in the Renaissance Festival and have been looking for alternatives to try and even if this isn't right for that, I have a mermaid concept I'm working on...

Re: face paint in hair?
make sure your load alot in your sponge so you won't have to use the sponge on the paint again...I would use a new sponge each time you use your cake...you never know when applying things on the hair...and for your piece of mind and your clients...it looks more sanitary not to put the sponge back into the cake when painting on the hair..this is just my thinking..and prolly alot of other painters also...most of us use one sponge per kid when face painting...and we try to use enought paint to get the job done so we don't have to put the sponge back into the paint...just get a new sponge they are not that expensive...
fp on hair
And to think all this time i have tried to be more careful about Not getting paint on hair when painting a full face. LOL. So this gives me another item to add to my menu, thanks. Not to mention, that I have very light, white (silver ) hair ....wondering how blue wolfe will wear?
Re: face paint in hair?
Any paint or powder that is water based, activated can go in the hair. However if hair is color treated light or dark you run a rick of staining or running their hair color. If hair is gray you run a rick of staining. And in some states you may not work on the hair. It varies state to state as what you can and can not do, this included coloring by paint, power, airbrush, color rub tints, feathers, tinsle.... One of my staff is a licensed stylist, in California touching the hair can be quite an issue.
