New Trend...Hair Chalking? Empty New Trend...Hair Chalking?

Post by Stacia Sat Nov 12, 2011 1:19 pm

So I was perusing Pinterest and found a new trend that makes me think we could do it better with our paint perhaps? They are using Oil Pastels and Hair Spray.

What do you think?

I put paints in the hair sometimes. My daughter wanted rainbow hair this summer and I turned my son in a black haired vampire on halloween. I like this picture.

I think this would be a fantastic option for older girls who are too cool to have their faces painted, and could be priced just as high as tinsel and feathers if not more like "$X per color".
How long do the colors last when you do them Nancy? Do they rub off on clothing? How did you apply?

I like the picture and it looks like it could be fun. Never would have thought of putting oil pastels in hair.
I do use face paint in hair, mostly on myself and my daughter. But I usually do green in the hair when I do the joker.
And I did attempt to face paint my dog for halloween, if that counts.

I have used face paint on hair and didn't like because the colors weren't bright enough and didn't last. I prefer the hair coloring, on light hair looks so pretty and you can tell the difference with the neon colors.

When I am at festivals I spray dog's hair and charge 1 dollar.

Face paint in the hair does rub off on clothing, just as the paint on the body would.

It would be cool to see how to do this. Do you think it comes off on clothing?

I paint hair all the time for theatre and costume - face paint, then hair spray. Holds up well. You can buy products for the hair specifically if you want to.

This is cool... and I personally wouldn't have an issue with pastels in hair tips as it isn't in contact with the skin. The hair spray seals it so it shouldn't transfer.

I'm thinking I should try this tonight... I'm painting/glittering/blinging at a Gala for 6 hours this evening - eye bling, glitter tatt jewelry, etc. I'll just throw a comb and a can of hairspray in my kit right now and see if I can get any takers!!

AND I HAVE MY CAMERA.

So how would you go about applying it to a small section of hair? I'm thinking I would load a sponge and lay the hair over the sponge and "clamp" the sponge around the section of hair and pull it down to the end gently and repeat till it's colored enough. Is there a better way?

The tutorial I found says to use Rembrandt brand because they're waxier than others and provide the most vibrant results. I think for now I'll stick to my face paints though...I don't own any oil pastels.

I (face)painted my daughter's hair pink, purple, blue and black for their school Crazy Hair Day. Even with hairspray it had transferred to her face and hands and clothes a bit by the end of the day. It would be fantastic for short or off the face hair, but hers was loose around her face.

Oh, and she had pink hairtips for days where it is sundamaged, but that's ok.I thought it looked nice. Very Happy

This sounds very interesting! If anyone tries, gets pics, please send. I am going to look this up! Just added feathers, as long as it is popular, I will ride a trend for a few bucks. Just got some today. My kids are circling the wagons...

Remember to check your states cosmetology laws. The fines can be stiff in some states. Here in Missouri the inspectors are out everywhere and I know it would be illegal here because it's not just clipping or tying something in the hair but applying a chemical to the hair.

That looks so cool! I have pastels just waiting around for something like this to come along. Now to find a willing test subject--er, model--among my kiddos... Twisted Evil

Pity you didn't get to try it out, Shannon. I bet it would have been great. Very Happy

I have one pic where you can see the coloured hair. I cropped it for privacy reasons. I did it with a sponge and rainbowcake. It isn't spectaculair but they like it very much to have some streaks of colour and glitter in their hair.
