Oh No! Tag Neons!!
First, let me just say that I am NOT a traitor, and was just trying to find other color samples- I swear!
So I was checking Tag paints out in another store- and this is what they had to say about the neons!
Please note: This neon product contains certain ingredients at too high of a quantity, that, according to the FDA regulations for cosmetics, shouldn't be used on the skin. The label says they are For Hair and Special Effects Only, and not a cosmetic.
These paints are commonly used as face and body paints in our industry, but we do not advise this use, especially for frequent use on the same person, and especially not on any mucus membranes. Please contact us if you have any questions.
DFX has Neon Blue, Neon White and Neon Violet that only contains ingredients that have been approved by the FDA to be use in cosmetics. They do not have a strong glow under regular light, just under black light.
Does anyone know if there is truth to this?

Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
i read this on face book this morning! must say am quite concerned. but i love my neon rainbow cake :'(
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
The back of some of my DFX neons say Not intended for cosmetic use. I believe it is the same colors as the tag. I have not looked into the Wolfe brand yet.
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
Yeah - this is the main reason that you won't find Neons by Paradise or Snaz.
It's mainly because no-one can be bothered to have all the pigments tested and passed by the FDA..... you have to pay for this. Neon pigments are new to the industry and they need to put warnings on them just to protect themselves more then anything else.
It's funny because I can use the neons over my eyes but if I use mascara by any company other then Clinic my eyes sting and water badly..... so really I think we all use a lot of cosmetics that are worse then any of the paints/makeups we use in our jobs.
I would be more concerned if someone was doing make overs with makeup from the $2 store, then a face painter using our products.
There are painters like Gary Cole who just refuse to use them.

Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
So are the neons in all the brands suspect? I have a few in my cart atm, and kinda want to know what's up before I checkout. humm.
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
I use my wolfe neon cakes all the time and have never had any complaints or issues within our own family...I just ordered the neon sets here of DFX so that is really disappointing. I can't imagine what they could possibly do to someone that would be harmful though????
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
Hey if it helps we are not supposed to use red/orange pigments on the eyes, or blue/green pigments on the lips.... and it's done all the time.
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
I use the DFX neon and a rainbow cake with wolfe. I know the pink, magentas and yellows all have the warning but I have never had any problem.
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
I haven't ever had any problems either...but for my full faces I use snaz as a base with little ones. I just got approached by a skating rink cause of the black light with the neon so, I just really hope that we have no issues. I was going to order some tag neons next!!!! As that I too have noticed that they seem to really pop a bit more than some others.
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
I was reading further on fb and it said that the amount of Formaldahyde was above the FDA's allowable amount and regular use can cause Cancer...So it's sounds as if it's potentially more dangerous for the painter especially if you wear the neons frequently.
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
Ugh. You know, they make a big deal about this, yet Formaldahyde is in the childhood immunizations that they "require" plus a bunch of other metals and junk.
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
Ah... but how many of us say "I use only FDA approved products?" And while I may be confident there won't be a problem with reactions, I could no longer really boast that. Somehow "mostly FDA approved products" just doesn't have the same ring!
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
Good point about the FDA thing. I also say I use cosmetic grade and the neons say they are not approved for cosmetic. so now " i use most FDA approved products and some are cosmetic grade" i might as well be using acrylics.lol
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
I sometimes play with the neons on myself for fun but leave them at home when I'm painting kids and others. If the companies aren't standing behind them 100% I won't take the risk, and I'm sure my insurance wouldn't cover if there ever was a problem b/c it says so right on the package. There are a lot of really great colours that are approved for the face and I don't have gigs under black light so it doesn't really hurt me.
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
Yeah, I got a little freaked out when I read that on my DFX neon rainbow. Someone referred me to a thread Metina posted about it here:

Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
I read a whole article on Clash the Clown's Blog. I'm pulling my neons from my working kit... whaaaaa.... and will only use them in body art & not repeatedly on any client(Never on baby bumps). I did get some Kryolan Neon in my eyes the other day & it burned like crazy. I chose then not to use them on kids faces(before I'd even seen the article). Bummer, as I just completed my Kryolan Neon kit....
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
Anna(ClashtheClown)did a bunch of research on it & this is a link to her findings with her links to pages she researched. I hop this helps.

Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
I rarely use neon, but used it recently on the eyes duirng carnaval and wore it all day....so I will not be using it on kids then...
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
Thanks so much for this thread! I have 6 brand new tag neon colors and will be taking them out of my kit. What a bummer Waaaah wahhh wahhh
Re: Oh No! Tag Neons!!
Oh so bummed out totally!!! But Wolfe neon is still workable right???? I didn't see any disclaimers on my cakes anywhere.
A little off subject perhaps but, I had someone inform me yesterday that one of the craft paint companies has a letter that states it it illegal to paint with craft paint on children and those caught will be fined by the company. I don't know if it is true but I am looking into that today. The lady that told us was a clown and said that she used to carry that letter with her. So, I am going to research it and see if I find out anything like that.
I guess I will also be looking into the neon things. My new neons are coming in today ....boo hooo....

Those are so pretty Kat!
I have not cut mine yet and I still hoping they'll approve them soon.
