It's not just technique or application that you are gifted in. You are creating unique designs and concepts that amaze me. I love your style. It's obvious to me that you work hard on your craft - having a talent for something doesn't mean one doesn't have to WORK to excel! - and your success is well-earned.
I totally agree!

...you silly girl, you told everyone to paint paint paint and post them even if they don't feel it's good because that's what we do. ...but then you said you would stop entering yours into contests? Silly silly... YOU should paint paint paint and enter them!! ...it's the same argument to you that you are giving to them. We love your work and are humbled by it but inspired as well.
Thanks for posting your evolution of the fairy. It shows how much work you put in and how much improvement can be made by working at it. Alas, I could probably only progress as much as the first or second. LOL

Yes, humility is good for the soul and inspiration is even better. LOL. Great point about the fairy Gina. How many times have I been too lazy to really paint something out, look for ways to improve it, then paint it again? Not very often... I have gotten stuck in this "it's good enough..." phase that sort of scares me. See how much more amazing it COULD be with some hard work and deep thinking is really an epiphany for me.
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Kim, I agree with everyone else. Your work is leaps and bounds beyond most, especially most that have been actually painting for such a short time. Your background certainly does give you a head start--knowing design and placement and just having an eye for detail that most of us don't practice getting like we should. Your practice certainly shows. I would be absolutely lying if I said I did not wish I could paint like you do, but I can't. I can paint like me. I appreciate you showing us your work and I hope you continue to enter these contests because honestly, if you work that hard then you should be rewarded.

No no No kim you will not be removing anything!!!!
I'm so sorry I didn't mean to offend you in any way - you are an amazing artist and your work s more then awesome. Your work is inspiring and you have added a lot to this forum.
I was just trying to say that you have experience with all the twirls and loops and flowers patterns etc that cross over between painting and henna. Yes your spacial sense, but also you colours and details.
I remember looking at your Henna art and thinking "oh no wonder your such a good painter".... but you would know the vast difference between the two arts not me. I was just trying to point out the difference between a seasoned artist starting and a mum who's never painted before. I never meant to make you feel like you shouldn't enter ..... I'm so sorry.

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Kim I don't know how many of us actually sit down to do a piece that takes hours and hours and hours let alone do the hours of planning that go into such an amazing work. I love that you nurture your gifts and it shows in your art. We need you entering contests cause it makes us all try harder!
Re: Post Submissions Here!
I would feel like this if you don't continue to enter & share.
I feel like this when I see your amazing work.
I'm doing more of this to be the best I can be.
I will feel like this if you continue to be who you are & keep doing what your doing. Not only do I love seeing your work I also love hearing your hallmark as you call them responses. They make me feel

Re: Post Submissions Here!
OH my what a kettle of fish!! I certainly didn't intend to start a debate on the roses challenge!!! First I want to put everyone’s mind at ease!! I really really feel the love here and have become insanely attached to my little FP family here at FPF! I am not hurt AT ALL (Yes darling Tash and nancy! Please know that I am not offended or even slightly annoyed! ) I am flattered that everyone has been kind enough to consider me a non-Noob!
I am actually touched to tears at the support that you have all given me when you thought I may be hurt! If I feel anything, I’m flattered and slightly intimidated! I REALLY don’t want to let any of you down!! But I want everyone to be inspired and motivated, which is the gift that you and FPF have given me.
I hope no one thought I would no longer post, I just said I would no longer enter the challenges…I remember school where there were things no one else would enter because they thought so-and-so would win and due to advanced whatever, they were often right…so it was no longer fun to play if you thought you never had a chance to win. That is why most sports have a weight class!! LOL
So how about a compromise? IF I win, I will no longer enter the contests, or will allow myself one a year so that no one thinks I’m coming in with an unfair advantage. BUT I do promise I will still post, offer help, play the TAG games and show you guys ‘what I am up to’ and always share and share! I really value the feedback you all provide and it is always appreciated.
I think we can call that an overall WIN? Yes???
XXXOOOO
There are no words!!
PS. Mandi, I doubt very much you could be more adorable!! I love emoticons!!!

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Kim, you must keep entering the competitions - they are open to all and we have some very seasoned and awesome artists that teach classes etc on this forum that do enter the comps.... and don't always win. That's the good thing about these comps sometimes the best artwork doesn't win but the best concept does! So it's always worth entering, even if it's just to stretch yourself and try something new, or to look back on them and see how far you've grown.
I was only joking when I asked why I bother to enter....... damn should of used more emoticons!!! LMAO
Kim after you have won every comp, every month for a year we can talk about you not entering.....!

Suzy, don't take your post down. metina cleared it & body art is ok.
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Kim,
Don't stop submitting to contests! The better the submissions, the harder we'll all have to work to get improve. The contest is for fun, not just to be competitive. Remember, as I always say, art is very subjective & it's very hard to say one design is better than another. sometimes it's like comparing apples to oranges.
I love your work.
My daughter's getting quite inspired by your henna too. I think she's found her groove:-)

Re: Post Submissions Here!
I had a long winded blurb which pretty much covered what everone has already said, so i decided to delete it and just say....
Kim, I am so inspired and in awe of your work (as well as everyones here). Please keep posting AND entering comps.
I am a newb in every sense, I'm a mum who's never painted before and no arty background of anykind. I think we're all here to enjoy, share and learn. LOVE it here!!! My family is starting to glaze over whenever I talk about anything to do with face painting hahaha so glad I found this forum!!!
So in the spirit of the comp and all the varying skill levels, and for fun, heres a rose from me. Looking forward to more posts and future comps.

HaHa! I forget we get to win stuff. I do it purely for the challenge!
But, free stuff is nice too

Re: Post Submissions Here!
LOL OK!
*I WILL no longer be scared of intimidating anyone (the fact anyone would feel that way about my paint baffles me to begin with!).
*I WILL NOT be scared to enter any challenges thinking someone may not like my entering.
*I WILL continue to improve my skills and strive to make you proud!
(they say 'it takes a village', but you guys have been my village for face and body paint, you have all had a part in 'raising' me to be a FP artist)
*I WILL continue to share my little victories and my failures so we may all learn from them.
*I WILL try not to be intimidated myself with the huge amount of talent here and feeling like I don't measure up...and I will try not to feel like a big poser!
THERE! I think I covered all bases!
@rae- Love the 'Victorian' feel of the piece! And that is one of the main reasons I love it here....everyone shares the same addiction!
@linda - See?!?! That's why I was a bit baffled! I don't think that mine is a guarenteed win! Far from it, hard work does NOT always pay off contrary to what momma always told us! LOL! I'm hopeful, but it's a tough call on this one!! Thank you for saying what I meant in a clearer manner!! And say 'HI' to your daughter for me and tell her to hit the free patterns on my website if she hasn't already! Great for different levels of practice!!
I'm actually hoping to try and see if one of my henna designs from my sugar skull book will translate to paint well today! Wish me luck!!

Rae, I like your rose! Nice curls and little hearts. Beautiful with the black lines. Good idea to outline in white first.
Kim, glad with your posts.

Re: Post Submissions Here!
OK! so one more submission! Got a chance to play with paint today and yesterday! Here is my big one today: Same materials as my first submission...
here is the first 'step'. Simply placing in the colors where I want them...then outline to flesh out.
Finished product-
Very different style from the last one, but the central pattern is out of my sugar skull book....wanted to see if it could 'translate' to color format! Not completely thrilled with this one, but good enough to share I felt!

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Kim, I like this one cause it is more like your trademark rose - I was wondering how that would transfer from henna to FP. Although I love/hate that rose. I spent hours and hours yesterday practicing it cause I wanted something really striking for my henna on my arm for this weeks festival. I now have an arm full of the famed Kim Brennan henna roses hope that's ok!!
