Thank you soooo much and she actually had 3 incarnations before I settled on the right one! I had to figure out how I wanted her to 'feel'. I'll see if I can find the original 'sketches' as it were that I did on my calf and inner arm so you can see the progression of faint idea to final result!
Re: Post Submissions Here!
I bet you can draw amazing!!!
so here is my entry...
step 1: sketch design in white
step 2 and 3: fill in the design with one stroke cakes
step 4: outline in black
step 5: add shadow in black
step 6: add white highlights
tools used all diamond fx paints, flat and round brush
finished!

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Wow Michelle! Love it! Straight to my 'inspire' file!
Thanks Angie and everyone! I'm absolutely SHOCKED at the facebook response to this piece! REALLY drives me to almost have a model a week! LOL Yeah....wishful, but ain't gonna happen!
So as promised...here is the fairy 'doodles' that came before her actual 'birth' on the back...

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Face, full cuffs that go all the way around both wrists and down to fingers, and full back, with breaks went over 4 hours. She had a sore back so it meant we did have to give her stand and move time. I would have loved to do even more, but time escaped us. I see where there is so much more detail I would have liked to get in. Keep in mind that I'm a 'fiddler' and a bit anal retentive about detail. Comes from working up to 8 hours at a stretch on a single bride I think. Face paint allows me to get a bit 'sloppy' or at least I don't have to color completely in the lines! LOL
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Wow, Kim and Michelle, that's great.
Kim, i like the way you're searching for the exact 'character' of the fairy. You gave her just the right expression.

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Arggggggggghhhhhhhh! You Ladies are TOO GOOD.
I don't know why I bother entering these contests at all!!
Michelle - I should of known you would knock the rose contest out of the park after your belly design......
And Kim - me thinks you are freaking all the newbies out... I think they need to understand that you were/are a master of Henna art which has given you a instant boost into the world of face painting and they should never expect to get that good that quick.
You are making those of us who have been at it for years look bad!
Keep going girl.... something tells me you are going to be famous for face painting within a year or so!
Oh well if I have to lose every comp I'm just glad I lose to such amazing artists!

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Kim when this comp is done I reckon you should try to take down the reigning queen on the Snaz comp site...
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Yes Kim I think you should give the snazcomp a go, and I love how you say "Face paint allows me to get a bit 'sloppy'"... I'm liking your kind of "sloppy".
Re: Post Submissions Here!
First of all, WOW! I am so lifted up by the support I get here!
@Tash – I think you may be partially correct. Although I’ve never really painted before, I do have the henna. But henna is monochromatic and using a paste. BUT it does mean that I’m ahead of the game when it comes to spacial relation and design composition compared to other noobs. Freaking anyone out has certainly not been my intention!
If everyone feels it’s best, this will be my first, and last contest submission here on FPF if I manage to win. I think I entered more to test myself and to see if I’m actually ‘cut out’ to do the FP thing and have the ‘confirmation’ by a possible pat on the back of actually winning.
I have gotten BOTH feedbacks. Almost all have said that I’ve inspired them (which both fills me with joy and makes me feel very humbled and grateful – not to mention shocked) as they can see the progression from my very first designs to now, and know that they can do it too…but there have been some that have expressed dismay and feeling like they cannot ‘compete’. I have been literally studying painting techniques and trying to practice whenever possible to improve so I can call my passion a ‘craft’ and an ‘art’. Getting to here did not fall in my lap. I do actually study and research almost daily…I dream in face paint right now. I am driven to produce and progress.
There is no ‘competition’ other than the contests. We are all here to share and if you are practicing and improving at your own speed, you are using safe products, you are happy and feel joy in what you do and your clients are also feeling that vibe and loving what you have done for them….then you have already won! And even if you feel what you have done was not the best ever, there is almost always an element that inspires someone – a curl, a fun way you placed a certain row of dots - and if you don’t share, you will never have that opportunity to move someone in a great way! At the risk of sounding like a cheesy greeting card commercial….remember that old song:
Sing, sing a song
Make it simple
To last your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not good enough
for anyone else to hear
Just sing, sing a song.
Sing, sing a song
Let the world sing along
Sing of love there could be
Sing for you and for me.
Painting is our song! So share! It’s ALWAYS good enough! You are bringing the joy and making someone smile whether they tell you that or not, or we all wouldn’t be here so often. I think many people would be surprised by what all is in my ‘inspire’ file!
I know that those I have met here will continue to encourage me to press on and strive to improve and I pray I never disappoint!
Geeze – When I read my thoughts back - why do I always sound like a cross between a freaking Hallmark movie of the week and a motivational speaker?!?!?!?
I will bow to whatever the majority feels is appropriate. And take down the Queen of Snaz?? I Love you, but are you on glue?? Have you SEEN the stuff on there or are you just teasing ?!? LOL

Re: Post Submissions Here!
oops I missed the rule that said:
Details: This challenge is for cheek, half-face, full face or eye designs utilizing roses.
I will erase the belly design I did
Great job so far girls... gonna be hard to choose a winner

Kim! Do NOT stop posting pics or entering contests. You were made to do this. Your beautiful gift for painting takes my breath away, and your humble spirit makes me love you. The things you have done show us that you are definitely on par with the best in this business, definitely able to take on a snaz queen or anyone else.
It's not just technique or application that you are gifted in. You are creating unique designs and concepts that amaze me. I love your style. It's obvious to me that you work hard on your craft - having a talent for something doesn't mean one doesn't have to WORK to excel! - and your success is well-earned.
