Should I say something? (possible stolen photos) Empty Should I say something? (possible stolen photos)

Post by Mizzzard Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:00 pm

I was looking through craigslist ads and I stumble upon a painter close by to me so I checked out their face book page thinking "yay! someone to talk to" but when I looked through their pictures The drastic difference in the work of pictures that were side by side caught my attention. Then I noticed a couple of pictures that I thought I saw elsewhere. None of them are my pictures...because really who would take mine lol but I don't think all of them are theirs. Pert of me wants to through the facebook page up and get your opinions but then another part of me is saying "what if they're on the forum and they get super mad at you?"

There's a picture I've seen everywhere of two people with fish painted on their faces and they wind up baring their teeth at eachother. Pretty sure that these folks didn't paint that one.

I saw one near me over here in northern VA as well that I KNOW is not their work as well. I let it go because when they do an event their work will speak for itself.

Gosh at least if I like a design I grab one of my kids and then paint it myself THEN take a picture. Yeah and looking through that, those are some of the most popular google images that pop up when you google face painting as Kat's FacesForFun said.

Yep, me too! Smile Now, I rarely paint those designs that inspire me stroke by stroke. I usually get the basic "shape" and add my own flare to it.

What does one say? especially when none of the pictures are mine so i can't say for certain (other than shannon's that has her name on it) which ones aren't theirs.

I'm so not good at confronting people

Contact the known owners of the photos with a link and take it from there. So far I recognize Kerry Ann Smith and Shannon... really stupid because the one of Kerry Ann is a painting I believe she did on herself. I wish I could tag the artists. but it doesn't appear to be possible.

It is acrylic, but it is also labelled as a paint station and the brown things on the left look like wood craft pieces. I am sure it is meant for kids to paint them on the plates. Regardless, the bottom says "Photos are for reference only" which seems to be a nice way of saying "stolen".

They've taken mine down after I told them to. I also messaged the artists of the other paintings I recognized.

Thanks for the heads up.

Also... if you see photos on Craigslist, GigMasters, etc. post as they actually will remove the images when you report them - as long as you are the owner.

It says face painting and paint station and there are wooden ornaments on the left so I think that is set up as a craft station and the face painting is off to the right

Never understood why people steal photos for face painting. Once they are caught, it makes them look so bad! It's not professional at all! It's sad really Sad If I saw all of those stolen pic posts on their facebook, I would think they were a liar and a thief. Yuck!

I didn't notice the "pictures are for reference only" note at the bottom. That's hilarious. Like they are trying to excuse the fact that they aren't theirs? Why would you post other people's work for "reference only"??
