Now that I've seen a few of the paintings with tiny dolphins, I have to say that I love them so much. Your beautiful sunset over the water with the dolphins jumping is just so sweet. I think I'm going to work on something like that for myself. The masks earlier in the pages here on this challenge with the smaller dolphins are just gorgeous!

Well, not exactly a step by step or on the face but I have to start somewhere!

Paint: Diamond FX Black, Snazaroo (dots recipe) white
Brushes: Round #3 and #2

I wanted to do something a little more masculine and my husband wouldn't let me touch his face - so - a tribal tattoo inspired arm painting. Started with the outline and then just filled in the middle with swipes and dots. Pretty easy but took a little too long!

Lorrin,

This is sweet, I do hope you'll considered going back and doing a step by step so this can be considered in the judging.

So, I went ahead and did the full thing with some minor changes. Not sure I love them but. . .

Tools: #3 round, #2 round, 1/4 flat brush
Paint: Diamond FX ocean split cake in white, turquoise and deep blue
Diamond FX Dark blue

Your pictures and fotos in a slideshow on MySpace, eBay, Facebook or your website!view all pictures of this slideshow

Start with an outline of the dolphin in blue. Fill in with either a split cake or just hand painted and blended. Keep white near the stomach and around fins. If you want more of a tribal look go with lighter colors like baby blue or even pink or white.

Outline in black, go over a couple of times for a really solid color.

Fill in the interior of dolphin with straigh lines, swirls and dots to create a tribal look, try to go with the movement of the dolphin. Place dots in empty areas. Try to avoid the eye area or go directly around it.

Highlight in baby blue or white, go over old lines and edges. Add large dots throughout and put extra emphasis on the eye area. You may need to go over again with black if you get carried away.

Do some simple teardrops and swirls for water surrounding the dolphin.

Do some teardrops in two colors around the eyes and add sparkles or diamonds in various locations. Edge in either dark blue or black for highlights.

And you are done! You could do the dolphin without the base color or with a lighter color to highlight the details more.

Ok, Here is my humble offering to this contest. I went with sweet and simple. I used Kryolan Interferenz Bronze, Paradise orange & yellow, DFX Black and White. My brushes were #2 & #4 Mark Reids.

First, I sponged the bronze on my forhead and eyelids, then sponged a larger orange circle in the middle of my forhead then sponged a smaller yellow circle on top of it. Nect I took my #2 brush and lined my eyes and used the #4 to make tree stalks then back to the #2 brush for detail. Next I took the #2 brush with the black and made the horizon line ,birds and dolphins.

Then I just added some swirls and lines to fancy it up a bit, then added some white for sparkle and a more finished look. Smile

Thank you all! Darlene, I am cracking up and really laughing out loud about how you described my giant forehead! I know what you mean though. There is 1 little girl that I have painted sev.times & she always wants a butterfly across her face and eyes. She has barely ANY forehead and terribly thick bangs. It can be a real challenge.

I am loving all of the dolphin entries, the tribal looks are awesome and the pretty ones are amazing too, love that crown Denise. This is a very helpful thread and great for the imagination.

Step By Step:
1. cover face with TAG pearl white
2. Draw outline in blue from corner of eyes up to top of forehead and also from outside of eyes and up to side of forehead
3. Fill in with TAG pearl sky blue using a sponge
4. Blend TAG pearl blue into the pearl sky blue using a sponge
5. Whilst the blue is drying add lipstick, I use TAG metalic blue applied with a cotton tip
6. Using a dauber load up with rainbow colours (TAG neon rainbow cake) and apply one dot in middle of forehead
7. Load up a flat 3/4 brush with a rainbow cake (only using the blue and purple from the rainbow cake) apply by laying down and flicking out to a fine point
8. With the flat brush add the dolphins nose by making a U shape with the brush and then add the tail by laying down the brush and flicking out
9. Add a dolphin on each cheek using same method as above using snazaroo pastel rainbow cake
10. Using dauber, add a few more rainbow spots,I used different parts of the rainbow cake for varing effects. Add black outline using TAG black with round sized 4 brush
11. Add scales using TAG black and sized 4 round brush, highlight with TAG silver
12. Add bubbles using 2 different sized straws by dipping into TAG white cake and pressing lightly onto the face
13. Highlight with TAG white starbursts and add TAG holographic glitter and blue make-up grade glitter (unknown brand) Also add white highlights to Dolphins, and white dots to centre circle

Jody, I so jealous of your forehead...I have such a short one! I guess it's good practice for kids though.

Caro...love the jewel with the dolphins...very cool.

I'll be sad for this challenge to end.

- Repeat steps 1-2 for second dolphin.
- Using the same brush and same colors, add dolphins' noses, fins, and tail flippers with flicks of the brush.
- Outline and add dolphins' eyes with white.
- Place dots in between the dolphins in empty spaces for decoration.
- Add teardrops at the bottom corners of the design.
- Optional Step:On one side, turn bottom teardrop into a swirl, bringing it down the side of the face. Add three more teardrops to the corner of the other eye.
