I have the chair but broke my foot in the summer so I am still sitting for now..

When working with tall chairs -

The aluim chairs are wider and deeper than wooden tall directors chairs. So the fit adults well, and taller face painters. They are light and fold up flater than wooden ones. But- I find the wooden ones actually more sturdy, fit children better and me better. Not being very tall I have to lean in to reach folks in my deeper aluim chair, my wood chairs are much more comfortable for me to reach people to paint. I have one aluim chair for nighclubs and bristros, the footrest has never sat properly on it resting peg. I have had 4 wooden director chairs for 10 years and two needed the hinges tightened about 3 yrs back and they lost the little pegs last year - and one had really finally died. I paid about the same for the 4 wood thru Target as I did for the 1 aluim. The 4 have been used for mutli day festivals, packed in and out, used by several artists....they have taken a beating and have held up better than friends aluim chairs. Love those lightweight chairs but my back always hurts after using them - just too deep. My 2¢ for those shopping.

I've seen some cushions u can add to the chair, which gives more comfort and prevents munchkins from sliding out!!! They have them on Silly Farm supplies.

besides the fact that it's on sale right now, the nice thing about it I think is the fact that it doesn't have the gap between the seat and the back, so i wont be worried about loosing a kid right there...

I saw this revlon one on craigslist, which they still have and am thinking about going to get it. Do you think it's worth it if I can talk them down a few bucks.

I found the tall Earth director's chair on Amazon for 69.00 with free shipping (super saver). It has a pocket on one side and table on the other. I will let you know how it works out when I get it!

Currently I have 2 low plain plastic chairs(ew) and small folding tv tables(they work fine) but my back is killing me every day now... Thanks for this post. I know what I should be using now. I'll just have to suffer one more event then I'll I can afford some. tehe.

I just bought this chair and love the stabilizer bar at the bottom. It has all the best features everyone is commenting on and the added bar for safety. It will support up to 320lbs per the seller. I think Earth Products sells this same chair for $64 plus shipping. This is the only tall directors chair I have seen with the bar in front - it is very sturdy and excellent quality. It is 8lbs and easy to carry by the handles built into the canvas on the underside of the chair. Hope the carry handles hold up over time! The seat back of this chair leans back slightly, too.

I am using a step stool and hold the chair for anyone getting into it. There are step stools at Lowe's etc...that have a storage area in them! Just saw that today and probably will get one to consolidate how I transport stuff other than paints. My hubby helped me design and build a low cost, easy to make...awesome table that is easy to transport and it is the perfect height for these chairs. As soon as we have it 100% I will post pics!

The shape, size of the side table is a bit different and it looks to me that with the design of the "legs of the chair" the tuscany is less likely to sink in the ground on grass or other non-solid surfaces -- but other than that they seem to be similar.

Recently I found a step stool on Amazon that I added to my kit --
I got the black version of the 'Kikkerland EZ Fold Short Step Stool' http://tinyurl.com/folding-step which makes it easy for kids to climb on my chair by themselves. I've used it for a couple of gigs so far and I love it. It is so light and I just stick it in the fabric of my folded chair to carry it to and from locations.

Hi Michelle- Thanks for posting the step stool pic! I am going to order it vs the pricey Stack and Store...the fact that it folds up is a great feature and it is much lighter weight.

The only difference I can see in the 3 chairs is that for the one I posted the back is slanted...this may pose a problem for some people. (I can move around my chair as I paint so it is not an issue right now). The Earth Director's chair you posted (there are two versions) has a tall straight back and the pics on the Tuscany don't show if it leans back or not. From all I have read, a straight back chair is better. Time will tell, and I am no spring chicken, so if the slanted back bothers me at longer gigs I may have a pillow behind kids' backs to keep them from leaning too far back.

Wanted to point this out for anyone reading this post! It is so hard to know which chair is best and since we have to order vs seeing in a store...it is beyond awesome to have this Forum!

I got mine from Amazon for a similar price and the stool qualified for free supersaver shipping by adding something else to the cart to bring my total up to $25.

Haven't read all the posts...forgive me if someone else mentioned this..Check out Cabelas. They have very sturdy tall director type chairs for camping. Even my 250 lb neighbors fit in them.

I am 5'11" barefoot and it's not quite tall enough for me if I have little clients, but it's fine for painting teens/adults. I love the little table on the side but I'd kill for it to be on *my* right instead of the client's right-hand side. I use one pocket for a mirror and the other pocket for used wet-wipes and used cotton swabs. The pockets wipe out easily at the end of the night and I love that the back keeps the little ones from sliding through. It's very sturdy and with the bar on the bottom, the little ones have zero trouble climbing up into it.

I am very short 5'3 and i sit in a fold out metal chair and have the kdis on one of the cheap Walmart stools. i haven't had any problems with any one even starting to fall over but The chair i sit in is short and I am either bending over or just standing to paint people. I figured all the up and down was why my back hurt. I may have to look into a nice directors chair

I just put the kids on a regular tall stool from Walmart too. I have them put their hands on their knees (a suggestion from Nora @LaFete) It makes them lean forward so they sit up tall and don't fall off the back.

Oh- and sometimes I just have them put their elbows on the seat of the chair and rest their chin on their fists! Now that's when things get speedy.

I have this chair from Ikea in the 29". It holds me well and I'm 220lbs, roughly. The only problem I have is with small children...I'm 5'9 and I find myself hunching over them to get to their face. I use a standard banquet table to hold all my supplies and would like something taller, too. To help kids get in the chair, I either lift them myself, or let them climb up using the built in step bar and the step stool that I place at the foot of the chair. If I'm sitting, I find this is a good place to rest my feet too

An added bonus is when I show up to gigs, customers are impressed as it seems more professional
