chair and table

Hello! I'm searching for a chair and table. I've searched the forum and there seemed to be plenty of suggestions, but most links seem to be old and no longer available. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!!!

I have a 'sit down' setup (as in both myself and the model are sitting in chairs)

I use a 4ft folding table

And 2 of these chairs


When I'm working with Aryn, we use a 6ft folding table.

I recently switched to using this stool for the model to sit in.

Now they are at a more preferable height for me when I'm sitting.

I just purchased the same table as Forest Fairy from Wal Mart for about 39.00. Its perfect and I can't wait to use it. It has a handle to carry it once its folded up which is so nice. They also had a professional make-up chair on line through Wal Mart (though it actually comes from another company.) I have not received it yet but I paid 89.00 for it. It looks really nice so I'm hoping it will be when it gets here.

I was also looking for a table and chair, and couldn't decide if a 4ft would be ideal. I also wasnt sure if I should buy the makeup/director style chair or get two chairs. I'm used to standing when I paint, but I'm sure I'd also like to sit occasionally. lol

I saw a neat little folding stool at Walmart that I considered buying for that purpose. I did get the directors chair on the WalMart website which is really nice. It would be nice to have a higher table though for that because I'm always having to reach down to my table to get what I need. It's not that big of a deal, but even a small high table would be nice. At work I normally use two chairs because I work at a roller rink and the kids I paint are normally on skates, so lifting them up on the make up chair isn't ideal. I usually use that for my smaller children that are more difficult to paint because they put their head down.

I recently purchased a directors chair for the kids to sit in ... but not sure if it's working for me. I have to lift the kids to get them in the chair and some of them are really heavy lol
not sure how others get kids into the tall stools/ chairs?

I believe people usually use step stools in front of the director's chair so it saves their back.

I'm glad you asked that question because I was wondering the same thing. I'll probably have a step stool with me just in case. Plus it may keep the chair from tipping when they hop onto it.

I painted on an upright setup once at a convention. I hated it. The stool was in the way, i had to reach down for my tools, and i found i was still bending my lower back to paint.

My back hurt more after then then all the years using my sit down setup. It's all about posture. and I remind myself that i don't need to be 6 inches from the kids face to see what i'm doing lol.

Thats true Forest-Fairy. I hated reaching down for my paints so maybe having a small high table like hair dressers use would help. I guess it's just trying different things to see what works.

I use that folding table, and the tall ikea folding chair, and stand when I paint. I make the faces lean toward me. My case sets the paints about waist height, so I don't have to lean down to them.

I can't stand & need to have the kids lean towards me so I don't have to lean forward. This allows me to paint all day w/out back pain. After I took a class from Lily Walters Schermerhorn I was on the lookout for her chair at Costco. It has arms. Most kids can lean forward & hold onto the arms & BOY, it's light & comfortable. I got two. They are about $30-40.  Here's a pic.

Keeping it simple, I will usually let my customer provide 2 chairs & a table…BUT, I always have 2 of these chairs & my 4 ft folding table (like the one in previous post) in my car. Occasionally, at birthday/graduation parties, I'm hauling them out because there's not enough space.

At FABAIC on FB, I talked to this lady that used a step ladder from Home Depot. It's brilliant and only costs $25.
Unfortunately because I am new, I can't post the link but you won't believe how awesome this is and the child fits perfectly on the top part of the ladder.

lailatov is talking about Lilly Walters Schermerhorn (spelling?) has two different step ladders. One she got from Home Depot (a little wider than the other) and the second step ladder from Amazon has wheels on the folding side of the step ladder, so you can just fold up and pull the step ladder when you are setting up and tearing down. The children can climb in themselves, without assistance, and, the back rest is not so comfortable that the child lays back in the chair, with their face really far away from the artist.

Yes! But I just did a little research and found out that it has been recalled so it's not available anywhere. Darn

I found a step stool thats also a chair though. Go to home depot website and put in Cosco 225lb white not rated chair/step stool

If you have an EZ-up Tall director's chair, kids can actually climb up really easily... they use the gridwork as a ladder. I never lift kids, if they can't get on my chair, the parent has to lift them (I show them my paint-stained hands as proof that I can't lift their kid :p )

I agree with you Tineke.  I did the same recently and I don't think the directors chair is working for me either.  A regular chair works best for me.  Plus I do most of my work at a roller rink and the kids have skates on which makes them even heavier!

It's SO comfy, is lightweight & folds flat.

You can also take a foldable step stool for the kiddos to use to climb up...

Remember Mom & Dad are used to schucking their kiddos around...you will be doing it all day if you start.

I encourage the kiddos to climb in & will stabilize the chair with my hand--but any help comes from their respective adult--(unless they're are so cute I just have to squeeze them!)

I use a step ladder for them to sit on. I got it at Home Depot.  Lilly Stepladder
