Love it!
I have had my new head for a few days. It's been a lot of fun practicing without looking
in a mirror and painting my own face. I bought one of the other models at the same site.
I bought Helen F3. Less expensive than Megan and plenty of chest area to practice on.
My sons said that the head "freaks them out" so we keep her turned toward the wall.
They also suggested that I give her hair. I played with the jewelry idea and added a camisole.
Gotta start working on other designs!

Party Picassos, The lace on the neckline... did you paint that or did she come with that stenciled on?
The camisole is painted!
It had a empty chest. I enjoy practicing a swirl lace effect.
First I make the swirls and dots. Then I use my wisp brush
(the one that looks like a rake) to get the thin lines that hold
the swirls and dots together!

@ Party Picasso: Did you submit that piece into the 3D jewelry contest (if you have a step by step for it I think you should).

Gloria,
No, I neglected to do a step by step. But I am hoping to
enter something before it ends. It sounds like too much fun!
Love the bow!!!!

What am I doing wrong???
I bought the head and painted it tonight with Paradise Dark Pink and Mango- the paint remained on the head for a total of about 20 minutes tops. I rinsed the head with water, removing most of the paint. The dark pink remained. I got my acetone nail polish remover, wiped the head, and the stain is still there! Not happy - what am I doing wrong?
Re: ***The illusive STAIN-FREE practice head ***
Okay, my bad. I reread your initial post and realized that I was using acetone nail polish remover, but not 100% acetone. I ran to CVS and got a cheap bottle of 100% acetone, and my head is clean as new! HAPPY!

I never doubted you - I just couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Now I know. Thanks for the information and the link to the head.

hi everyone, im new around here um.. ive had a go at some facepainting on my kid and the girl next door lol but i want to get a practice head and was thinking is it a good idea to use poster type paints for this as it may be easy to wash off .. anyone tried it? Re: ***The illusive STAIN-FREE practice head ***
I think it depends on what you are practicing. If you're practicing just painting in general (brush strokes, designs, etc.) sure, I guess poster paints might be helpful but I have found that face paints are different from other paints because you have to get the right consistency. So, it will help you a lot in face painting to use the actual face paints you have. I will say, however, that the "skin" of a mannequin head is different than real skin so it helps to paint on your arm, leg, face, etc. as well.luannalovell wrote:hi everyone, im new around here um.. ive had a go at some facepainting on my kid and the girl next door lol but i want to get a practice head and was thinking is it a good idea to use poster type paints for this as it may be easy to wash off .. anyone tried it? I didn't go through all of the comments to see if this had been posted yet or not, but... In search for a good head I asked a lot of questions from the sellers. From what I understand the best way to care for the head is to first lightly coat with hairspray, and then after cleaned, wipe down with the highest rubbing alcohol you can find, let dry and go over it with a magic eraser. Apperantly the magic eraser does most of the work, and they have admitted to leaving them on quite a while before cleaning them, still turning out fine.

Spectrum wrote:Okay, so I've seen postings many times that people are looking for the perfect stain free practice heads. Well I've found one and own it myself.
Some people would be quick to respond, why does it matter if it stains??? Well, as many times as that question has been asked....it must matter to MANY!
Personally I don't blame the people who are looking for a stain free head and I highly doubt that anyone who has one that's all stained up would prefer it to one that was stain free.
Luckily this was the first head I've bought and I can say it's stain free with the following brands, as I've experienced using them on it first hand. Snazaroo, Paradise, Diamond FX, Mehron. I've tried all of these brands on this head and every one easily removed with 100% acetone (fingernail polish remover). The brand I used came from the Family Dollar store. I'm a dude, so I opted for the $1.00 cheapo brand just in case it didnt work....it's not like I have any nail polish to remove if all else failed.
I've tried all the blacks and darkest colors of each brand....I've let it sit for several days and later returned to clean it with very little effort.
Soooooo...without further hesitation, I present to you:

Hopefully this ebay link will work. One note and precaution, be prepared for the eyebrows to completely vanish once you run over them with the acetone and of course avoid the eyeball area (not like you paint the cornea, etc. anyhow.) The mannequin is made of a neat rubber type material with an opening in the bottom for a optional table clamp that you can buy seperate. I like this one because it has a nice size back, chest and even the sides are big enough to practice small to large cheek art on.
I had no problem with hardly any effort cleaning this head and it looks as good as the day it arrived with no stains whatsoever, except for the paint that she sucked up her nose...I'll have to q-tip the nostrils sometime....she's easy to get along with, so I don't imagine it'll be a problem. Good luck with your new head should you get one!
I guess the item to the link you posted is no longer available but I found this one that I liked

Wondering if it's made of the same material as the one you purchased. Are you still using yours or have you found anything about the one you bought that you don't like? Any input would help, thanks

That is the one I was looking at today too (Megan/Roxy, right? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mannequin-Head-Bust-Wig-Hat-Jewelry-Display-MEGAN-/120686503168?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1979e500). I thought it would be great for jewelry designs too. How do you like it? It is hard to tell what material it is, and whether it is the same as Spectrum's original, as that link says the item is no longer for sale so I can't see which it is.
Everyone still loving theirs?
