Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
You know when my starblend fell & hit the ground, there was only 1 tiny crack in the side of it, (yay) but by the time I got home and was cleaning my kit, it had turned into a pile of powdered chunks.
I tried using it that way, but it just was too hard to load right, so it sits in my spare paint cubboard...all alone, til I can figure out somthing to do with it.

I was at a hot summer gig & looking & looking for my starblend red & just couldn't find it. I then saw a glimps of red on the ground... there it was w/ a sneaker print in it. I thought I would cry

Yeah? Well, glad to finally have found it...very cool and will try making some soon
Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
Suzy,
I just watched the video, then I saw a news clip. You were so calm, cool, and collected. I hope you got lots of work from that segment. Thanks for all the info. Are these much like Ben Nye Lumieres. I love those for hot weather.
Thanks for the huge investment in this post.

Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
Hey Suzy, I have a question for you.
I just saw this thread and thought it would be great to make them instead of buying them
I have a question though....
So I am looking for some flat or matte colors, I found these
http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/index.cfm/product/1498_34/complete-oxide-sample-kit.cfm
Which seem cheap and GREAT!
Problem is I read
"OK people... these are Oxides, not ready-to-use eye shadows! They are a raw ingredient that you can use to color powder foundation, blush, eyeshadow, etc. but they really are not meant to be used as such on their own. If you try to press them without other ingredients you are going to come up with mud. That being said, these are great quality oxides that I've used to color powder foundations, blush, eye shadows and setting powders. Definitely will buy again."
So I can't grab the baggie and that liquid (which is on sale again, yay!" and go at it like you did? I need to add other ingredients? I don't want mud : /
I am confused! lol

Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
Hi Melinda, I saw the same thing! I went back and re-read Suzy's step by step, then re-read the WHOLE post. Suzy posted her shopping list and no other ingredient (ie base powder), soooo I don't know either....whaaa
I love this idea Suzy, thank you soo much for posting. I am a self confessed shop-aholic ( and although I haven't progressed from hobbist facepainter to trying to make it work as a business...) my kit is getting extensive and expensive lol, so I definately want to have a crack @ this, but want to get it right!

Hmm...
Does anyone know what to do with the oxides?
I am wanting both shinny and flat colors and from what i saw the only flat ones came i the oxide side.
I wonder what the heck you have to add

AAh Thanks Suzy!
Melinda, maybe add the eyeshadow base mica to stop the oxides from mudding up?

Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
I have no idea
I am doing research so wish me luck!
It would be nice to make my own starblends as I would like to put them in my own container. Also, you can't beat cheaper!
Cheaper means I can buy more colors. lol
But basically I want a flat(not shiny) Red white and black... at the very least anyways.
I just subscribed to their forum so hopefully they will be able to tell me what to put in.

Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
I'm curious of the size of these pallets. How big are they compared to the face painting pallets that a lot of people use?
Any way to do a size comparison picture??

Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
I only go to the Coastal Scents website when I have money to spend- because there is no way I can log off without buying something! I'm addicted to their sample sizes. I made the BEST gold shimmer powder by mixing a sample pack of the Gold interfine powder and the gold .004 glitter. $2 worth of product filled my shimmer wand!
Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
loved this link . thank you for the links to the websites and u tube its always great to find cheaper options. I did a workshop with Bec Anthony and she used the eye shadows over the top of the face paint which increased the staying power of the paint and made the paint pop!

Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
LOVE THIS!! Ben Nye pressed Lumiere powders are my FAVORITE for so many things... I especially love them to lay down a base color under simple cheek art designs. If this stuff works like the Lumieres then I MUST have them!!
Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
I'm glad to hear that Faces...I've been thinking of getting other brands of face paints but what I really want is a sheer base and powders might be the answer.

Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
Cross your fingers for me everyone! After much You Tube research I placed an order with TKB trading to try this out. As a newbie this would help expand my kit for all lot less! If anyone wants an update once I make a palette, let me know!

Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
Just throwing in something here, you don't need to but the specific mixing medium, you can use alcohol. Isypropol alcohol or even just vodka. The process is exactly the same.
On the other hand, you've persuaded me to go buy the powders from Coastal Scents, the only downside is the postage cost.

Re: Mini Jam - Face Paint Powders!!
Suzy, brilliant video! I'm not presently in a position to spend any extra money, but it was really informative and very interesting. Thank you
