Love all the eye designs you guys have come up with, you're all so talented!
Thought Id share this pic from my first paid gig a few months ago, I was prepared with all the 'normal' designs, and this one little girl gets in the chair and asks to be a pig. I was totally thrown, but luckily I had the Wolfe brothers extreme face painting book with me, and remembered that it had a pig in it. I was quite happy with it, especially since it was my first pig! lol. The little girl loved it, and totally made my day when she looked in the mirror and said "wow, this is WAY better than the last time I got a pig!" I told her that to be fair, the other face painter had probably never done a pig either lol.
The antennae on the butterfly didn't look so weird in real life, because I did white and black swirls, but this pic only really shows up the black ones. Oh and the paint on their arms was done by them, I let them mess around with an old tatty brush and the remnants of an old paint pot because they were so sweet, and I was new and didnt know any better Rolling Eyes

Katurah, like all of those. And I love the way your rainbow tiger Glows! I assume you used pearl colors...which ones (brand)? That little cat face it so cute.
Kim, you are way too good to be cheap! Stick around the forum and I think it will boost your confidence to charge what you are worth...there are a lot of encouraging threads on charging rates that are reasonable. Btw, you have very nice line work.
Danielle, great job on that pig ...funny that she'd had a pig done before, and it seems like an odd one for a little girl to pick Laughing Did she say why she wanted one? I especially like the bottom halves of your butterfly. I've never seen one done like that, it's very feminine and sweet.
Sneezle, I think left about the time you started posting...you've done some great stuff! Wish I could comment on all of them individually, but I am still so far behind on playing catch-up on the forum. I DO know you did some tropical awhile back that I just drooled over Wink (I love floral and tropical!!) You are an inspiration with all your designs and really 'crank out' a lot!! It would sure help me if I practiced more...just got to squeeze it in somewhere I guess. geek
Paola, love your display board on the eye designs. They are REALLY good ones too. May I 'borrow' some? cat I'm so glad you are out there painting professionally now, you have such talent! and you are a real 'cheerleader' here in the Show and Tell; that is so sweet!
Lizzie, your painting are so realistic! Wow! And you look so 'cute' in your costumes! the kids must love seeing you come.
Ella, you are doing amazing job, I've seen such growth in your work from the time you started. That orange horned mask is sooo good!
Isabelle, if you are still 'here,' please share your set up with us! We'd love to see!

MANY APOLOGIES for those I've missed commenting on. Embarassed There's just too much to catch up on after 3 week trip, plus my daughter was very sick before that so it's been more like 5-6 weeks away. I just know that I have been so inspired by all of you and you generosity in sharing your talent and ideas!! This is such an incredible forum, don't you think? cheers

This is a Chinese dragon design by Olga Meleca. Or at least I tried her design of the dragon. I'm sorry I don't know why the picture is on it's side.

Thanks Valerie, she said pigs are her favourite animals - I blame Australia's kids tv channel, which has three shows about pigs - peppa pig is on constantly at our house. I find myself singing the theme song all the time lol.

Agreed, Kim your work is amazing, and 50 kids in 3.5 hrs is fast! I can only do about 15-20 in 2 hours :/ I don't charge much either, because I'm slow and new to face painting

Creabella that's a beautiful dragon, the face is so detailed! Dragons are one of my dreaded designs, I spent about 4 hours once painting my dragon design over and over again on a dinner plate until I was happy with it, so now I can do it but I still don't like doing it (uh, probably because of that 4 hours lol!)

Well the face is one of the most difficult Parts of the dragon and I do have some trouble also with getting the spikes right too. But just keep on practising. This one is already better than the first one I made. Shell I show the first one too? What the heck, let's do so! Very Happy

Creabelle, lovely dragon, it's beautifull!!! I really like the stencil you used on the green one. Lovely blue colour. Your second one is really showing your impovement. Great job. <3

Valerie A So kind of you to look at al the designs posted over the last weeks. And thanks for your sweet compliments. Is your daughter alright??? Must have been stressfull that she became sick before you were going on a vacation. And you really don't need to apologize, it's a lot of information you have to look at and read. These are two I did while we were on our anniversary trip....(even as a newbie I know these are NOT my best work, but on the first one I need some advice and on the second...there's a little story about what people perceive...)
My inspiration Smile
Show and Tell #3 March - May 2013 - Page 21 YJRICbCl
My interpretation What a Face ...Now I know I got too much water in the black (& white,) Embarassed there's some smudging and my outlines are sort of wonky, but I'm wondering....would you leave it with a white outline, or add the black?
Show and Tell #3 March - May 2013 - Page 21 6NOotMtl
next step:
Show and Tell #3 March - May 2013 - Page 21 8AXlyf6l

I was at the pool when I did this next one. Though I'm pleased with some of it, I was not completely thrilled (these are with my phone camera so they do not show the vibrancy of the colors that was indeed beautiful) BUT you would not believe how people reacted to it...
Show and Tell #3 March - May 2013 - Page 21 Siuc6nKl
another angle:
Show and Tell #3 March - May 2013 - Page 21 Pc1e86al
All sorts of people stopped to ask about it (and my husband said the ones who didn't ask were studying it as they walked by.) I told them I was learning to 'face paint' and practicing...People commented that I obviously had already learned how to do it and was ready to go out and do it. lol! Lots even wanted me to paint them too!!! I had to chuckle to myself, knowing what a rookie I am!!! If they saw the stuff on this forum they would Know that I'm just a 'facepainting baby' and no pro!! This should be inspiration for you pros who are charging tooooooo little for your Great work ...raise your rates!!
I did not see one face painter on the island! Maybe I just wasn't in the right places, but it seems like a real opportunity for a painter over there, when people were so excited about what Rookie Valerie was doing. affraid I thought about writing to the resort (with my husband's business letterhead Cool ) and telling them how people really wanted to be painted and that they ought to hire a facepainter!
(I had to add this one so you can see I really can paint a flower nicely sometimes Wink

If I can jump in here
the dictionary meaning of crank out - to produce in a mass-production
So I think she is saying you create and post a lot of faces . I love it, I don't always comment, but I love coming in to see your latest collection.

Lizzie, your flintstones are picture perfect...

Nice dragons creabella, I can never get the face right.

Kim, 4 minutes per face is not slow, it may just feel like you are painting slowly when you know you have people waiting...
Sorry for anyone I missed out on. It is hard playing catchup but all so inspiring.

Wow, Ella! Nice dragon!!

Sneezle, sorry about the 'crank out' idiom...I guess prolific is the word I should have used Embarassed (I meant 'produce rapidly,' really do LOTS of paintings one after another.) Yes, it was Very stressful about my daughter!! But HER doctor told us TO GO! take the trip and try to relax!! She has a lot of health issues: Asperger's syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome, diabetes, and two years ago she developed epilepsy...in March she had her gallbladder removed and in the course of the surgery they found she has non-alcoholic liver disease!!! that the doctors said could be fatal in the next 10 years...(the surgeon was not very 'tactful'--no 'bedside manner' if you have a term like that there? and went into gory detail about what her death would be like!!!) There is no treatment for it, but losing weight will help (she is 27, but is disabled and lives in a house on our property.) But polycystic ovary syndrome and her diabetic medicine make you GAIN weight!! and with Asperger's it will be a hard struggle. Thanks for asking (sorry to go on so much about it just now...it is on my mind a lot.) Oh, Your English is so fine I forget sometimes not to use idioms (1. A speech form or an expression of a given language that is peculiar to itself grammatically or cannot be understood from the individual meanings of its elements.)

Danielle, thanks for clearing up the pig mystery Laughing I thought maybe she had a pet pig she loved or something Wink Kids are funny what they want painted sometimes, like Lisa (Fesspenter) had one time...the boy (?) wanted a CLUB SANDWICH painted on his face!! She said she'd never had anyone ask for one of those before lol!
No wonder you aren't crazy about painting dragons after your 4 hour paper plate marathon!

I wonder how Brittany is doing??? she's due Friday isn't she??

Thank you Silversky! Yes, I meant A LOT of painting at one time. Sneezle really DOES inspire me with all that she does, and it is always so fun to see what she does next!
And I think you are right, it does 'pop' with the black, doesn't it... Now if I can control the water and the lines I might be able to get it right study

Oh wow Valerie how horrible, that must be so hard for your family. And doctors should be trained more in bedside manner, I've experienced some awful ones. They forget they're talking to a person sometimes I think Sad must have been nice to have a holiday and get away from all the medical stuff!
Your flowers are so pretty, I would leave them without the black but that's only because I'm not a black outlining fan because I always mess it up lol, and it looks more delicate with just white Smile And no wonder you were getting compliments on the ones on your arm, they're gorgeous!
If its her first bub I wouldn't be surprised if she goes past her due date, I feel for you Brittany, those last few weeks are hard

Hey Val! Sorry to hear about all the struggles you have been going through. I hope that you can find a doctor that has better common curtesy... That is terrible! Or if you have to keep seeing that doctor, I hope that he was just having a bad day...

I am still here and pregnant, haha! Just haven't painted much recently! I'm due on May 15th, so I could still have a week or two until baby gets here!

Thank you all for your kind words...fortunately that doctor was the surgeon and Not her regular doctor. Her regular one is a sweetie (he's the one that told my husband and I to definitely take the anniversary trip anyway & we'd deal with things when we got back) and he's in charge of things now, so hopefully we will never have to deal with 'Dr Death' affraid again. (Maybe I should have put this stuff in the Break Room Thread...sorry to get 'off topic' here.)

Danielle, I usually like white outlines best too (like in the last flowers) but something seemed lacking to me with that hibiscus when it was just white. Black seemed to define it more maybe...but then I got it all watery etc etc. I think I will try another one soon, because I love flowers and want to perfect it.

Brittany glad you're still 'checking in' on here, even if you don't feel up to painting right now. Keep us posted on progress if you can...I'm sure you will be right on the computer the morning after you give birth to let us know the name you picked Wink )

Valerie, that is quite a story, your daughter has so many diseases. I can imagine you are worried and that it's a lot on your mind lately. How is she doing at the moment? How is she dealing with all of this? Asperger doesn't make it easyer. What a story about her docter, some surgeons just don't thing about your feelings, it's just another patient in their opinion. How inhumane of him to explain it this way. That is not so neat. I wish a lot of strength for you and your daughter!
Thanks for your explanation about 'crank out', i do understand now. Smile I just love painting, use my arm, wash it of and start again Wink Thanks for starting a new topic!

Quote: "Oh, Your English is so fine I forget sometimes not to use idioms (1. A speech form or an expression of a given language that is peculiar to itself grammatically or cannot be understood from the individual meanings of its elements.)" Thanks for the explanation Very Happy

The colours of the flowers on your arm are beautifull. The colours are beautifull and very bright! Love it. What a nice comments you got, painting yourself! I like your hibiscus most with the black lines. Maybe you can change te lines, black for the outline and white as a highlight next to the black. Do you know what i mean???

Silversky, thanks for explaning! Now i understand. Smile

Catching up!!!
Katurah love your tears drops, i should try use more as nicely as you do. They still frighten me. I use few here and there. Love your tigers lines!! What is this base you use? Is pink orange gold blue purple pearl? I love it!! Cute puppy!! Very Happy
Kim Einsia you are really good!! Love your female version of the skull really cool!! Like the male too!!
You mentioned slow....50 kids in 3.5 hours is 4.2 minutes. Normally for a full face 4 to 6 minutes is considered very good! You are fast and good. Please do not undersell yourself. See this article from Shannon Fennel : http://www.shannonfennell.com/Illusion2Article.pdf
I can't remember who said and to whom......"from now you must start thinking you are a professional face painter." It was a wake up call for me.
Danielle nice pig and face design!
Ella awesome dragons!!! Love Olga's design!
Valerie it would be my honor for you to copy or change anything you like on my board! Please post it too i would love to see it. Very Happy
Love your flowers. Have you try to outline them in black and keep the white in? i would also try thin to thick lines and see how that work too? Those in your leg are also awesome!! What colors did u use? The orange and purple? I am so sorry to read all the sickness your daughter is going through i knew she was very sick but had not idea of all of them!!! Surgeons should stay in the operating theatre not speaking to awaken people!! So glad you have a nice doctor. I think sharing in this corner makes us known and closer to one another! Big hugs
I love you

And i feel bad bc im slow, so i will call it at a particular amount and say i will finish the rest of the kids. i feel like a sucker, but i lack the confidence to ask or quote more.

50 kids in 3.5 hrs and you think you are slow? I won’t guarantee more than 10 per hour. What are you charging? have you checked to see what other face painters in your area are charging? crazy thing about it is that sometimes people get MORE business when they raise their rates.
