Newbie Challenge #13---Holly and leaves
So ladies--I am typing with out my glasses on ---so beware--spelling and grammar are going to be far worse then normal (see is it then or than? I can't remember no matter how many times Ihave learned, or how many tricks I try to remember--it just doesn't stick!)
Anyway----Tonight I am very humbled to be part of this Forum---I had a newbie send me some lovely paints and I was so thrilled and thankful! I will name her as soon as she says it is OK, but I am so grateful to be part of a wonderful friendship and surrounded by such great support! Thank you to my lovely friend, and to all of yoU!
UPDATE 12/1--SO my hubby works out of town Monday mornings till normally Saturday afternoons ---so when he comes home on Friday. like he did this week, I am really confused and post on Friday night thinking it is Saturday! Oops! sorry!
#13---Holly and leaves
I think it might be safe to say we all own at least one one stroke (arty/rainbow) cake---so we are going to use that for the leaves. It is OK if you don't have a green arty/Tag cake, just use what you got. Post different kind of leaves, different styles---have fun with it!
also with this holiday season---try out some holly leaves and berries.
These two DON'T have to be on the same face design....
Not the most exciting challenge, but stuff I think would be worth while to learn and work on!

Good luck with the leaves!!!

Re: Newbie Challenge #13---Holly and leaves
How funny I actually painted a holly leaf and berry set yesterday on my mom's dog just for fun. It only lasted about 20 minutes but she still has a pink spot where the red didn't quite come off all the way. Boy I am sure glad she isn't showing her this week. lol

Creabella, you could use a rainbow cake if you have one. If you do not have one Lisa Joy Young on you tube shows you how to make one yourself.
i found the difference between the two(one stroke and rainbow cake) is related to the wideness of the colors and the way they blend.
For leaves Donna Dewberry the one stroke master only uses two colors anyway. Hope you do not mind me jumping in....and understand mine is not a pro experience and still learning. I did notice though that even the masters uses different things in different way (in Faba TV) and there is not a fixed rule which is what i love the most.... as long as it works. The best way to see if it works is to try it and have fun with it!

Re: Newbie Challenge #13---Holly and leaves
Creabella - I didn't manage to get a picture but if i can get her to hold still for it again I will repeat. She had decided to climb in my lap and take a nap while I had been practicing on my arm and then I didn't have room to work on me any more (she's a border collie so not huge but not small) So I did a bracelet around her paw instead. It was pretty funny that her nap lasted exactly as long as it took me to do the art work then she got up to show it off. Prancing around the house and laying down with all the rest of her paws under her and only the one visable so it looked posed. lol Honestly I think she planned it.

Re: Newbie Challenge #13---Holly and leaves
Creabella--You can just load two colors on one brush by putting color on only 1/2 a brush at a time--either swipe only the edge with the brush, or hold 1/2 of your brush up while you swipe it on the paints. Then repeat on the other side--
Or you can make your own (which I am too scared to try--don't want to ruin the few paints I have!)---
Paola--any advice that helps is good edvice---doesn't matter if you are a newbie or an old pro! Thanks for the Birthday Wishes!!
Lady Jynx--I think we all are thining the same thing---on a dog?! Humm--not sure how I feel about this--hope you wash those brushes really good She sounds like a diva dog!
Hope to see all your work soon---PS: take a look at the challenge that just ended for some holly suggestions!

Re: Newbie Challenge #13---Holly and leaves
Thank you guys for the advices, I hadn't thought about that.
If I can find the time I'll give it a try.
Did you enjoy your birthday Amy? Congratulations still!

Ooh, I love that, Sandie - well done!
Annoyingly I didn't read this thread before washing off the holly I had painted on my temples yesterday! Oh well, more practice is always a good thing.
And I'm sooooo glad you got a little surprise, Amy! You absolutely deserve it, and I hope you'll post a photo of your stash sometime soon! xx

Here my interpretation of the Holly:

Re: Newbie Challenge #13---Holly and leaves
nice---steal from the best and then make it your own! That works the best!
Birthday was like every other day, except my hubby and I went out to eat and left the 3 kids with a babysitter---have a gread dinner and then hung out at walmart for a few hours (really that is the ONLY store open in my area after 10:00) But I got a few things --hair dye and a humdifier--so it was a lovely day!
Plus I had a secret special someone send me some face paints the day before so it was awesome!
Thank you!

Re: Newbie Challenge #13---Holly and leaves
I'll be attempting some Holly soon, my leaves aren't really spectacular though, the only thing that makes them pretty is the fact that they are pearls
Re: Newbie Challenge #13---Holly and leaves
Katurah that is very nice! love your roses and flowers!
AmyLady i am not sure i understood your line. Where you talking to Sandie or me?

Re: Newbie Challenge #13---Holly and leaves
LOL I used my non preferred brushes. lol The ones I decided I didn't like. To rough for skin but worked great for her fur!!! She is a show quality dog and spoiled so she actually could be quite the diva but is in fact just part of the family and works around the house. Herds the ducks & horses, helps with the kids & my mom, she knows her jobs and works very hard on them. She had just finished her bath so was clean as possible. (She hates her bath, that's hy she came to me. lol SAVE me sister!!! It was awful!!!) I think she just got tired of being left out. lol

Re: Newbie Challenge #13---Holly and leaves
Also just to put minds at ease, The paints I used had already been pulled from my kit due to an incident of falling into the construction zone of replacing the fireplace. My youngest had gotten into them and well.... So I figured I couldn't feel comfortable using them on anyone else and just use that palette to practice on MY arm. I won't even use it on my kids or my face. But I couldn't just throw it away either.
