ChaCha wrote:Okay....I have cyber stalked all bookings this year on facebook (lol ) No pics found....but I know I have to work on the serious/mean look. Thanks to this thread.
*LMAO*!!! I need to start doing that!
Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
Ummmm but you should hold the head of the kid you are painting? Tends to be only MUA working on pro models who don't hold heads as that how they are trained to avoid messing up hair etc.
Its a safety thing - warns of their movements rather than having them lunge onto your brush? Pllus steadies most of us, extra safety feature...

Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
I can't hold kids heads anymore... I would steady their head under their chin (inbetween my thumb and pointer finger) This felt good to me and natural.... Holding on the top of the head was never easy for me... or something about it felt weird. ANYHOW... I had to stop doing it because on every picture I looked like I was choking the kid lol.... I am going to have to search my computer for a pic like that. lol

Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
I used to be very serious when I painted, until I saw pics of myself!
Now I make it a point to smile the whole time I'm painting, even though at the end of an event my whole face hurts LOL!
Although I can still be caught with a serious look now and then...
And I do the head-holding thing too!

Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
I stopped holding heads when when one kids hair had so much product in it, it literally sucked my hand in!!! I casually wiped it off on my jeans and no, i do NOT think I smiled when I did that...
Suzy, your original post is great! It was just for a laugh. I tend to do make up face because well.. It is makeup, no? I have mean stone face when I paint, its my concentration face. I think if I had to concentrate on smiling, it would affect my work negatively...
At my last party, there was a professional photog there, and whenever I knew he was taking a pic of me, I tried to look happy and smiley and I would make mistakes because my focus was somewhere else! I will have to find pics of my meanie face lol
Thanks for the laugh!

Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
I'm a head holder. I do tend to gab a chin if they start hiding that cute canvas! LOL I usually say something like, " Lift your head up sweetie. We don't want your Ninja Turtle to look like a butterfly." Works everytime
Here's a pic of a little girl hiding her face. Gosh I had my head almost upside down!

Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
I'm so sorry I don't have any winners to post! I do get told often that I have a "serious" face. This probably translates to "You look so ANGRY!"
Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
Lol! Looks like im squishing this poor girls head down! Dont you dare move young lady! and keep your eyes closed too! No peeking and....what about that expression? pucker up! whistle why we work? pout? scoul? heheh... I know its an 0000OOOOoooo from my amazing new technique to dry brush the outside of the butterfly wings with an angled scruffy brush!
Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!

Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
I love these pictures ! It's so funny !
Has anyone a clue why we make such faces while putting on make up for instance ?
I have the same issue when twisting balloons except that I look horribly serious and concentrated for a clown. I really have to practise, at least making faces if I'm having a fight with my balloon, but NOT a serious face !
Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
I just went through my photos...gah! Daizy I'm a grimacer too! I found these two from last summer so apparently there is hope that I'm not always in pain while painting...
See? Look it's an actual smile. I'm stunned...especially since this seems to be my usual 'painting' face

ChaCha you have totally cracked me up I'm giggling so hard my cheeks are starting to ache..
Great thread, I'll have to see what pics I have. I reckon I've got the totally serious/concentration face.

Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
Thanks Cotton Kandy! Anytime Mandi This has been a great thread! Nice to see everyone "in action"! pondering making a "SMILE YOU'RE ON CAMERA" sign for my setup table. When I take kiddos pics, I usually have to tell them to smile too...
Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
Oh DEAR..I have just found the WORST possible pic EVER!!! I dont know that I can share it!!!! Ugh I make all your funny faces look pretty!
Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
LOL! With the side view it first looked like a two headed....something .... then my vision focused...... Luv it!
Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
I love how we all share EVERYTHING on this site. Although I don't have any pics of me painting I can't see me having many FACES while painting. As a primary school teacher I "constantly talk" to the children and parents behind me. My kids will tell you that I will talk to a tree strump if no one is around and start conversatoins with people while waiting at the checkout. TALK TALK TALK
I will tell the child where I am painting so they are not freaked out by the sudden wet paint touching their lips or eye. Knowing where the paint is going seems to calm the littler ones. Talking through the steps of a design helps me remember not to miss anything and lets the child know when they are, "Almost finished - Ta Da!" Talk about pets, have they been painted before, what grade they are, "Don't chase the cat when you get home" (if they are becoming a dog), etc etc.
As you can see I'll talk your ears off!

I'm jealous of people like you who can make conversation so easily! I'm naturally very quiet... I feel most comfortable when I'm NOT talking. So I have to really force myself to say anything, even if it's something like 'turn your head please!'. I never ask kids about school or pets or anything... maybe that'll be a 2012 goal for me: be more friendly!

ROFLMAO!! This one wins! You look like you are sitting on tacks while painting! Or perhaps this face is not going so well??? :-D OMG so cute!!!
Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
Mine are awful too. I look like I am thinking "If you move, I WILL kill you" Look at my eyes and face! I am surprised people get in my line, I look MEAN!
Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
Funny is'nt...doing something we absolutely love and having the opposite facial expressions...Thanks for the post suzy..yours is such a classic!
At my last birthday party I was very conscious of my expressions and tried a lot harder to look happy....I find when I am swamped at huge festivals it's alot harder for me to hold that smile..But I will be aware now.

Re: I never want to paint again!!! OMG!
ROFL, wiping tears from my eyes. Why is it so hard to concentrate AND look chirpy?
I don't have a lot of photos of me at work - although I'm sure there are plenty out there. One woman said to me at a xmas party last year: 'you must be the most photographed lady in the area', and I thought... omg... that could be true! Frightening thought. Mostly from behind (oh dear), and/or with that face of concentration.
I do try and keep my mouth shut though - early in my career (ie, not that long ago) I had a child cough right in my face and spittle landed on my lip. That was a good lesson. I didn't realise the child was sick, but once that happened I noticed the whole family had a yucky cough going on.
But there's nothing I can do about the double chin. Except maybe diet and exercise *sigh*
Here's another one from the same day. Not the nicest photo of me, caught at that awful moment where my eyes are almost shut... but at least i look happy, lol!

Why is it that some kids will do anything but hold their faces upwards so you can paint them?
I am feeling sorry for your back at the end of that particular day!
I am definitely a head holder. I always feel awkward when I paint an adult, as it doesn't seem right to hold their head but my other hand doesn't know what to do with itself.
