Painting designs on a menu board

I don't really work PPF events and have one coming up for my nephews school fundraiser. I don't really want to invest in making a holiday board since I probably won't use it again so, my thought was to paint some designs right on a board. I'm not sure what type of board to use and/or what type of easel would be best to make it stand on it's own. Please help!! If any of you have done this before please share how you did it. Thanks so much!!

I use a drawing of a face, print them out, and paint on them. There is one rignt now on the facebook page for facepaintingtipsandtricks with 4 faces, that might work for you. You could put them on a peice of poster board or foam core and have a nice display without too much invested.

I do the same.. except i made my own face template. i also done them on skin coloured card so that the colours would show better even added glitter to them, then i got them laminated. i use this sheet when i go to birthday parties. i usually cable tie it to my fatmax or valcro to a brick wall (if im out side). it makes the line soooo much faster with about 20 so designs to choose from... although latley my pretty kitty is all the girls want. you will most likley need to add your prices to the board too. happy painting... one tip i can give you is dont leave the painting to the last minute.. even if you do them a couple a night.. i found myself getting a little frustrated and rushy by the time i had painted, added little detail, glittered 20 designs! LOL

Just curious, do you face paint right onto the paper? Doesn't it sort of soak through the paper? Does the paper dry flat or does it wrinkle/bubble?

@ whonwhate, hey just use the paint thicker than normal. but no it dosent soak threw or bubble. i use cardstock not regular paper. i will upload a pic in a couple of days when my laptop in back i painted one on myself last night

I painted this board on black foam board. I'd probably use yellow or something more neutral because the scorpion & spider are hard to see. Other than needing more paint than skin, it's done really well through two events.

Regular paper does not bubble much either, and it does not seep through. If you use a light brown or skin colored paper, and card stock is best, the paint will show better. If you are only going ot use them once, you don't need to laminate, but if you are going to keep them, you will want to either laminate or spray with hair spray. The paint will flake off over time.

I tried to paint pictures and then take photos and put them on a board but I had a hard time getting enough models for my ideas (so I ended up being the model ) so this way I can put up designs that I don't necessarily have photos for.

I'm planning on one for this weekend for a bug & butterfly party so I'm making a similar board and adding some new designs like catepillars, ants, beetles and some of the old favorites and it should only take me about 30 minutes.

I'll have to do the printed faces one when I have a birthday/full face party. I like the flesh cardstock idea.

Here's my new painted boards. I had pretty good success with them at a company party (for the boy designs) and a birthday party for the girls designs. I made the girls too crowded though so I might redo it and not use white for the eyes.

What do you think? Would this type of menu work at a PPF? I think it's easier to create than getting a model and painting new designs. I might modify this idea because I've had good success with painting on the laminate sheets for practice. The laminated sheets don't soak up so much paint and I can print out a poster with 20 kids faces, laminate it and paint on that. Maybe that's my solution to getting models....maybe I can take pictures of neighbor kids as my blanks....thinking, thinking. Only drawback would be Starblends. I would have to paint on the board with paint but I can put Starblends on the foam board.

Denise that's a grate idea!!!, well whwt i do is to print some pics whit the most popular designs, then I stick them in a black board as Denise used, I write the prices on the side general I separate them in half face and full face designs.

My board is about half actual cropped photos of designs I've painted on kids, and half paintings on paper such as those of a face painting mom. I use pink starblend to give the cheeks a little color and use crystal liquid bling to add a little glitter. I also glue a gem on any that call for gems. I also put a bright color border around each picture using cardstock or colored craft paper, then laminate or cover with clear packing tape to keep them clean. I took three sheets of foam poster board that I hinge together with clear packing tape. the very top piece of poster board I suspend from one side of my tent from the frame. It hangs nicely and if it's too windy, I position it close to one of the legs of the tent and also tie it to the leg as well to keep it from flapping too much. When I take it down, the three boards fold up to protect the photos inside.

Hi Lorie, I'm Lori! Anyway.... you mentioned the wind at events. I am doing one tomorrow and it's really windy here and going to be really windy tomorrow for my event. I will be in a downtown area so some of the wind is blocked but I'm really nervous about setting up and trying to paint in windy conditions. I made weights with PVC and I was going to just use water to fill them with but I may have to pick up a bag of sand. Any advise for me? I don't have the sides on the canopy I bought, just one half side sun shade.

I weight down all four corners with a concrete filled pvc pipe. if it's going to be really windy, we bring an empty cat litter bucket, lol, and fill it with water , place it in the middle of the tent and tie a ripe from it to the middle section of the roof, we have our tables, chairs positioned so it's not bumped into by kids. hubby always keeps an empty 5 gallon bucket or empty cat litter bucket (with the lids) in the truck in case we need to fill it with water for extra weight.
