Not sure if this should actually be here or "Where's the Beef"
Totally off subject from Face Painting. Other than the fact that YESTERDAY I was sooooo happy that I got my first PAID GIG for Sunday! YAY ME! And you take one step forward and 2 steps back.
I got stopped by an Florida Highway Patrol on my way to work this morning for failing to stop at a red light before turning right. The sad thing is I HAD A GREEN RIGHT ARROW when I was turning. The "spotter" cop was sitting across the street.... WHAT AN A$$. I did not even do anything wrong! On top of that my DL and Registration had fallen in the crack of the seat. This buttwipe gave me two tickets for that totaling $202.00. I found the DL and the registration 15 minutes later when I got to work.
Just when I thought things were looking up....... WHAT A JERK!

Wait, so you got a ticket for turning when you had a green right arrow? Fight this. Tooth and nail fight this.
Just show up to fight the ticket - if the officer doesn't show up, it's dismissed.

OH BELIEVE YOU ME! I AM! I even asked if they had cameras at that intersection!
Re: Not sure if this should actually be here or "Where's the Beef"
This should be able to be dismissed. What nerve! I can't believe he gave you a ticket for the light even after you explained that you had an arrow?
We've been stopped for some pretty ridiculous things lately too. I'm wondering if the police departments aren't hurting financially or something, to be cracking down this hard.

Oh, that's so lame! Definitely fight. Let us know how it goes.
Re: Not sure if this should actually be here or "Where's the Beef"
Agreed with above, and I do think it's a money thing alright. Once I was stopped because I had a little dreamcatcher hanging from my rear view mirror. Apparently it's against the law to have anything hanging from the rear view mirror. I can accept that, but geez, everyone and their mother has something hanging there. lol..the cop looked about 15 years old so I guess he was just taking the letter of the law and running with it!

Feels with you! I tried the same thing. I went to court with it three times and even had a witness agreeing with me, but the judge believed the police men more, even if they did not tell the same story and was changing it. So I also had to pay 200$ plus got a notice (it is a new thing, when you get three notices, you loose your drivers license). I really hope for you that you will have more luck. It is so frustrating being punished for something you have not done!
Re: Not sure if this should actually be here or "Where's the Beef"
Is it still within 24hrs of the issue? Because here, if you can prove the documentation to be true and correct and display it within 24 hours, they will void the ticket. Check and see

I've actually heard that officers have a "quota" of tickets for each month. One of my friends was stopped TWICE in the same day once (driving home from FABAIC I think...though I could be wrong).
But yeah fight it! That's bs!
HOWEVER>............
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR GIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to work for the police... they don't have a quota. Not here anyway... they have better things to do.

Congrats on the Gig! And I feel your pain! The other day a cop pulled my mom over for not wearing her seatbelt- when she WAS wearing it! Then he argued with her, accusing her of putting it on after he flashed his lights at her. She refused to give in and admit to something she hadn't done so he finally left her with a warning- but if he had decided to give her a ticket... GRRR
Re: Not sure if this should actually be here or "Where's the Beef"
starpony- Tally is known for their overzealous police force....and pulling people over. I have many friends who drive their 2000 mile summer road cross country trip and no tickets until they hit Northern FL..... I definitely would fight the ticket and go on the myflorida.gov website to see where you can dismiss the lic/registration validation issue - you should be able to show proof and sign something to get it removed. $200 is a big hit AND ESP. IF IT WAS UN-WARRANTED OR INCORRECT.
Re: Not sure if this should actually be here or "Where's the Beef"
I would definitely fight this! It sounds like you did nothing wrong, and besides it sounds like that cop was just being a jerk.
First, he should know if he's camped out on that corner whether or not there's a green arrow. (though I guess it's a you-had-to-be-there kind of thing...)
Second, they can choose to "get you" for no registration and such, but they can ALSO look to see if your registration is current in their database when they run your license plates and drivers license. It all depends on the officer...
I have many family members, in-laws, and my husband that are all in law enforcement and while we're over in UT, I can't imagine it's that different in other states. I have heard that rumor about quotas of tickets, and have been told by my family that it is just that- a rumor. Granted, some management may see an officer that is writing many tickets and see them as a high performer, so there might be a higher chance of promotions or better shifts, etc if an officer writes more tickets, but that is very much a personal thing depending on the officer.
I hope you're able to get this waived, or if for some reason they're stubborn (jerks) about it, lessened by like 90%!
Good luck!
