Glitter Issues Empty Glitter Issues

Post by Rebeckah Wed Jul 01, 2009 2:03 pm

I think I must be the only one who has problems with loose glitter. :O) I like loose glitter because you can get pretty much put it where you want it, but I have a terrible time getting it to stay on. I feel as if two thirds of it end up on the child's clothes! Is my paint brush not wet enough? Even if I put it on right after I paint, it still doesn't want to cooperate! I'd like to know if anyone has a tip for applying loose glitter after the face is painted so that it sticks. Thanks!

you are most certainly not the only one. Glitter is my bane. There are about as many ways to apply glitter as there is types and colours Razz I have taken to using a clear gel on my brush, dipping it into the glitter, then applying it.
I love it but I often forget to add it :/

I like to apply the glitter to the base color of the design as the paint is still wet. I then continue and paint on the outlines and other details. Glitter will fall off as the paint dries. You can always you a sealer like Ben Nye's - it is a bit sticky and will keep the glitter on better. Just don't spray near the eyes.

Ask the child to hold their head back, while putting it on.

It can also be really pretty if you dip your brush in glitter, after it has been loaded with paint. Like for tiger stripes and butterfly detail. As long as your brush is not dripping with colour, you will not get anything in your glitter. And then it stays on the face =)

I have always just used water? I dip my brush into the water, then into the glitter and drag gently on the skin. the paint doesn't have to be wet, but it can help. Keep in mind that you have to use the proper kind of gltter, very fine cosmetic grade.

Good luck!

Thanks! I only use Snazaroo products, so I am happy with that part of it. I just think I need to work on loading enough paint on the brushs and sponges....that might help. When I see people do it on YouTube, the paint seems to glide so easily and then, when they are done, they dap some loose glitter on and it sticks like magic! I don't care how fast I paint, the paint is always too dry to let the glitter stick. I have tried dipping a stippling-type brush onto a wet sponge or onto my finger and into the glitter and then tapping it in place. It just leaves so much glitter all over the child, that I hesitate to use glitter at all. Sad I'll try your suggestion...thanks!

When I am finished painting, I tell my lil customer to close their eyes so I can spray a bit of water on their face to wet the paint and make the glitter stick better. No complaints! The glitter does stick better that way.

Thanks Winger! That is a great idea! I have a mister that I use for my rainbow cakes that might just do the trick! Can't wait to give that a try! Smile

Glitter is an option, not a requirement you know! Rolling Eyes

I actually hate it, but have given in and carry four colours ONLY (unless doing glitter tatts with is a different thing entirely.)

I can go all day without using it...

Shannon,
What four colors do you use? I so far only use the white irredescent. I bought yellow but haven't had occasion to use it. I bought pink but accidentily bought the neon pink which looks awful for face painting.

I carry holographic white (or irridescent... it's white and sparkly... I don't care which white it actually is!), gold, silver and a pink (the one in the kit is sort of a metallic looking pink at the moment).

That pretty much covers anything that could possibly need glitter.

You could always use shimmer powder over your base instead of loose glitter.

I love glitter. Not applying it. Having it.
I'm part crow and bling is bling to me! I don't go for every color under the sun though (that's the human part of me dominating). Currently, I have the standard silver, gold, white-ish, purple, blue-greenish, pink, red and green apple. I primarily use the blue-greenish and white-ish...the rest are for me to look at.

my precious....

You really need to get a life Glitter Issues Suspect I see you sitting there in your cavernous craft room with all your various piles of stuff you bought... still in their raw form... waiting for you to return... yet there you sit lusting after the bottles of glitter sparkling in the dim light from the 20 watt bulb swinging overhead...
