TAG what is up with the missing FDA approval? (NOT REGARDING NEONS!)
I just got new berry wine and pink TAG paint. WHY is there no longer a made with FDA approved ingredients sentence on the label??? The white I bought says 'made with FDA approved ingredients'. The pearls say 'made with FDA approved ingredients'. So why are the REGULAR pink and berry wine just 'skin safe'? I thought the 'debate' was only with regard to neon, and these definitely aren't neons! What is going on?

I think the FDA-approval thing is going to become a deciding factor for some people when it comes to the paints they use.
For example, it's written right into the CAFABA Membership Agreement: "As a registered Member of the Canadian Association of Face and Body Artists, I agree to...Use ONLY skin safe cosmetics, manufactured to and compliant with FDA Guidelines". (Of course, they don't specify whether that means the U.S. Food and Drug Administration... or the Canadian Food and Drugs Act.)
It's starting to concern me. Not that I believe that the paints are unsafe, I don't. But "Failure to comply with these terms will result in your membership being revoked immediately without refund, and the immediate termination of your CAFABA Group Insurance policy." So.... using anything that is not "FDA compliant" would void insurance coverage obtained through CAFABA.
So, to sum up...it would be helpful if it were disclosed before purchase whether or not a particular paint is made with FDA-approved ingredients.

Emailed Joe (thanks Suzy!)
He says that those are the old labels (which are still in circulation). All of the new labels say that they are manufactured with FDA ingredients, and that only the neons are unapproved.

I am really glad to hear that!!
I'm a little touchy about this stuff lately, because someone recently tried to tell me that ALL the TAG and DFX paints were non-FDA-approved. When I said, no it was only the neons, they insisted. So I chose not to argue with them... I went home and looked at the labels on a few of my paints and satisfied myself that they were wrong. That's why I was immediately concerned about this, I thought maybe (just maybe) they were right, and it was other way around and this was some NEW labelling!!! Whew! Am I relieved!!

Isabelle,
I'm touchy on the subject of FDA approval for insurance reasons, and personal ones as well. First off I paint ALOT of pregnant women (usually not bellies, just their faces)/women of childbearing age and little children. Plus, I don't like the argument 'you-get-it-done-once-per-year' because I'm exposed to my paints 4-5 times a week, and my daughter gets a ton of exposure too.
Also I hear that 'tons' of people get painted and have no reaction, but that argument also makes me think of how there are days when I love love love the looks of a donut. Tons of people can eat high sugar donuts just fine, but some (like me!) will wind up admitted to the hospital and listening to the following speech from their doctor: "Why did you cheat and eat something that you know isn't allowed on your diet!"

To be devils advocate here.
Even though DFX is "FDA Approved" I react to it every time I put it on my face with red blotchy "burned" areas, especially on my eyelids.
Cosmetics are FDA approved (most of them I would assume) However there are a ton of those I can't use either.
My roommate is the same way.
FDA approved does *not* mean "%100 totally safe will never cause a reaction or hurt anybody" but I guess it does lower your risk. Not to mention there are plenty of things that are FDA approved that are proven, known "bad for you" can anyone say Aspertame? Known carcinogen and bad bad bad for you and yet it's completely FDA approved and in thousands of products.
Should it be a consideration? Sure, absolutely. Is it necessary for some insurance? Yes, absolutely. They have to have some sort of "bar" to set on safety of products, and at least if five years from now something is proven "unsafe" they can point the finger at the FDA and say "it's your fault! You said it was ok!"
FDA approval IMO definitely isn't the be all end all of things though.
Sorry about my little rant I'm having a "boot the corporation stupid government" day!! LOL

Also, there is a difference between "FDA approved ingrediants" and the product being "FDA approved."
