Why Kids Are Awesome!

Today I woke up slightly nauseous and with a little diarrhea, not because I am sick but because my nerves are sooo shot about my first festival gig next week. I mean I am FLIPPING OUT. While I am panicking and on the verge of tears, my 7 year old daughter comes to me (while I am in the bathroom, ugh) and kisses my forehead and says "Don't worry, Mom, you will do great! Your paintings are awesome!" The opinion of a child is great, they are too young to be diplomatic. She made me feel better. (That's her in my avatar photo, btw.)

Kids are always great for cheering us up, making us laugh, and making us think!
What awesome things have your kids said lately?

LOL!!! That's hilarious! My oldest said something similar, he told my daughter that she can't be climbing all over Grandma like that, her bones are too old.

Sweet! I love kids. But ya know, I chatted up some fellow face painters once who said they DIDN'T LIKE KIDS! Can you believe it?!!

One said she'd worked as a "plushie" and that was why she didn't like them. Okay. I can sort of understand that. I've seen children kick them!

We all have had our first festival or party and were scared to death. After you get there and are working for awhile, you'll start to wonder what the big deal was...it's really not...except for the money and the smiles!

Soon you'll be getting ready for festivals without a second thought....really!

I can understand why you are nervous, but try to change it to anticipation instead.

When I had my first few days working as FP at Disney, I was nervous and sure that those who were so much better would do better and children would be upset with my faces, but that just didn't happen at all. color, glitter and a smiling painter and they are OK to go.

So breathe, smile, and be happy.

Relax, breath & don't stress over it! The kids love what we paint even if it's not perfect. Have fun, enjoy the kids & the art! Listen to the wise words of a child, You'll do great!

I just painted for a 4th of July Veteran's picnic, I was scared and feeling sick from my stomach too. I couldn't think straight, forgot some of the designs I had been working on. After I did the first child and she looked into the mirror and smiled, told she liked it and thanked me, ALL my fears were gone and I honestly had a great time.
So don't worry and enjoy yourself.

We are our own worst critics. When the child gets to look at their face after we are done, the huge smile is the best reward ever (well, money is nice too:) )

Take some deep breathes and know you have some great support. Your little girl know you can do it!!!!

I just had my first hourly paying gig today and wasn't happy myself with half the faces I did, but the children were ecstatic! that is all that matters.

We all know you can do it too!

Today while waiting in line in the grocery, my friend's kid picked up a People magazine, flipped through it, put it back and said "This is NOT good for my self image!"
