I know it's not awesome, but kids? Really?

It is Catholic schools week at my daughter's school, and as one of the events parents were invited to have lunch with their kids. (actually, we can do that anytime but for some reason this week is special ) Anyway, I try to paint my face whenever I go in to Kindergarten because they all love it so much. But I was a little strapped for time this morning so I just threw it on pretty quick- about seven minutes-- the logo for Catholic Schools Week 2011. After lunch I dipped into the grocery store and a man stopped me and asked if I was a teacher. I smiled and said "Nope, if I were a teacher I'd have to be in school right now!" Then he said, "Oh, well I just thought... because it looks like you had some kids put that stuff on your face." What? Seriously guys, he was just being a jerk right? I mean, I know it's not great, but does it honestly look like kids did it???

Awe Sophie... it doesn't look like a kid did it at all. He doesn't know what he's talking about!

Other than SillyIzzy , I don't know of any kid who can paint anything that comes close to that!! Even my son, who is very artistic and can draw just about anything, cannot paint on faces .... lol! I agree with the others - he was probably having a bad day or is just a jerk and likes to cause drama.

He probably didn't really look to see the art itself....just commented on seeing colors on your face. "MEN! SMH! He's just being a typical man not noticing details"

But I/we noticed your beautiful details Sophie!!!! the red/white/blue swooped on perfectly (a kid wouldn't be able to do that), the stars so beautiful and perfect (even with a stencil a kid wouldn't be able to put them on there without smudging them), and your writing - nice and easy to read (a kid has bad hand writing on dang paper, on a face would not be able to read). So like I said....WE NOTICE ALL THE DETAILS...most if not all of us are women here ....and if there is a man on this forum he gets IT because he's an artist as well!

Thank goodness! I was afraid that my judgement had gone way off or something. It probably wouldn't have bothered me if I had been happy with it to begin with, but having rushed through it and not really incorporating the words made me question if maybe it was that bad. Good to know he was just being thick. Thanks for the re-assurance!

Yep, that's my take on it too.

i laugh alot at myself and at alot of uncomfortable situations that happen in life...and i think this is one of those situations so i say just laugh it off! because we all agree..it does not look like a kids work..and yes!!! we have to blame the Male gender lol

Hi there, as someone who hasn't yet mastered the letters in the mirror thing, I think you were very polite and I probably would have told him to go home and try and write on his own face!!! Sorry about my rant but as a newbie, I would love to replicate something that looked even close to what it should. Happy painting!!

Maybe he thought it was one of those decal tattoos & didn't think an artist could actually paint it on. If I'd painted words on myself, they would have been backwards

If that man knew anything at all about face painting, he would have seen the talent in your painting.
He was just being a mean old sticky pants. Some people have nothing better to do them throw their negativity out there.

Before I read your post, I looked at the picture and thought, wow....that is awesome. The stars are perfect. Which I myself muck up everytime. I was impressed.
