Re: Renaissance Festivals! =]
Cat, that's awesome Pirate weddings have also crossed my mind if my boyfriend and I ever get married, since it was pirateness that brought us together... I can't imagine my dad's side of the family agreeing to attend such an affair, though. They'd probably be ashamed >_> And they'd never dress up...
Thus far I'm the only one dressing up to go to the renfest.. my aunt and my cousin both refuse. My brother's girlfriend may go and I'm sure I could convince her. I just hope we still get to go despite all this flu mess!

Savvy,
If you ever happen to find yourself in Colorado during the summer, I'm sure Metzpah and I could find a way to attend with you! hehe... We usually have a 'family' day and then she and I and or other friends sneak off for 'all girls' days' there

Well ladies, I'm back from the festival... and I had such an AWESOME time! Seriously, I'm in my element when pracing about in pirate garb surrounded by other people who are as crazy as I am I so want to go again next year! It was just fantastic. Pirate Weekend! Here are just a few pictures:
There are many more on my deviantart gallery XD : http://captain-savvy.deviantart.com/gallery
There was someone doing face painting. I didn't see the booth, but I saw kids running around with the paint on. I was too busy being piratey to seek the booth out

Hey! That was the festival I went to last year! (I'm a Renie when I have the time) We had such a good time. That was were I watched my niece and nephew get painted and really watched how she did it. That was when I decided I needed to check out face painting more. I was amazed at how fast she created her designs with just some simple strokes of the brush. Now that I know more about face painting I wish I could find her work somewhere. It was so different from what you normally see. Lots of curls and swirls and then there was a beautiful dragon on my nephews face. Glad you had such a good time!

Re: Renaissance Festivals! =]
Cool! I have Viking ancestry, actually not that far up the line. So fun to see where we come from!
Re: Renaissance Festivals! =]
Angie, the Vikings was more than a thousand years ago, so it must be a little bit up the line... But your last name is a normal boys name in Scandinavia =)
Re: Renaissance Festivals! =]
Well, the Vikings themselves yes, but my grandfather was Norwegian. His name was Dragland, from the village of Dragland in Norway. I married into the Anders name. :-)
Re: Renaissance Festivals! =]
It is a small world. Never heard of that village Angie, but I like the name! =) In my family they have been Danish for as far back as anyone has been able to trace (really boring), but my half sisters grand grand mother - or something - was an American Indian.
Re: Renaissance Festivals! =]
I'm mostly Irish and Native American ... on my dad's side I can trace back to my great-great-great grandfather who came from Ireland, and on my mother's side I had a great-great- grandmother who was full Creek Indian. I have some Cherokee and Scottish as well but I'm not too sure of how much.
And my boyfriend is Dutch Not that this has anything at all to do with the conversation

I love hearing where people come from even though it wasn't part of the original thread.
Dad had a researcher do our family tree (the Pearcy's). Our's was boring too. A little European mixed with American Indian. I forget which Indian. Grandmother was 1/2. The neat part was that we have horse thieves that got hung in our lineage. Good stock to come from!
My husband's mother is from Switzerland. Last name Belcher. But her mom's last name was Pickle so we're not really sure what happened there. She won't tell her children anything about her heritage for some reason. She doesn't like to talk about it. My husband thinks it had something to do with the war and Hitler. As it's her dad who was in the army she REALLY won't talk about. We'll never know I guess. That side of the tree will just be lopped off.

Re: Renaissance Festivals! =]
I know this thread is a bit older, but I have to put my 2 cents worth in!!
I absolutely LOVE Ren faires!!! My mom and brother have been attending for years....I have for about 4 but have not had the chance to go to many...I have been to one in MD, one in NC, one in TN, one in OH.....but this year ....labor day weekend....we are going to the one in Michigan and I am super excited! Still trying to decide if I want to go in garb or not
We actually attempted one here where I live a few years ago but unfortunately it flopped.....for some reason, it seemed as if people had no clue what they are...of course being in the "bible belt" I am sure some people disapproved......
But anyway....I can't wait! I have not been for over a year to one!!

I have been to the one near Phoenix, AZ. (Awesome time!) I really want to take my kids to the one in NY now that we are on the east coast. There is also a pirate themed festival near Boston.
