Afraid of Festivals...
I'm not going to explain the ins and outs of tonight''s gig, but I will say that it was another case of miscommunication. It was my Aunt's school's Talent in the Park event and it was absolutely crazy! I never saw an end to my line and kids were just swarming... Thank god for my aunt who cut the line off an hour after my contracted time (The principal asked me to stay late), then I got the dreaded, "But they've been waiting soooo long, can't you just do them?". Nope. Gotta go.
Anywho, I think what I'm getting at is this was only a 4 hour event, I don't know how I'll ever handle a festival for the whole day! I'm pooped!

Soak them tootsies (feet) and get yourself another gig, girl! You can do it!
Re: Afraid of Festivals...
Thanks Miss. Ronnie, I have a party today and I can honestly say I feel confident as ever about it. It's probably only 15 kids for 2 hours so I can take my time and whip out my liquid bling
I'm definitely faster and my designs are becoming more defined. Now to get some good pics for my new business cards I couldn't take any lat night due to the chaotic swarm.

Re: Afraid of Festivals...
I find a lot of the time exhaustion comes mostly from the chaos, and not just the length of time or the number of kids. Often, if the line is steady and managed well, I feel like I can just keep painting...
Re: Afraid of Festivals...
Yeah I looked at the swarm every now and then, and even though I saw impatient faces, I just painted like they weren't even there. I wasn't about to rush my just to get to the mean ones faster lol
Re: Afraid of Festivals...
I love doing festivals...nothing like taking home $500 in cash for a days work! As far as the line goes...I use someone else's idea...about an hour before closing time I go to the end of the line and paint numbers on the kids hands. I ask the parent of the last kid in line to inform others that there won't be any more after them...it's worked so far.
Re: Afraid of Festivals...
We don't usually get lines like that at festivals, yes there are lines, but when you are charging the right amounts they are generally manageable. If your line is too long, you aren't charging enough
As far as how exhausting it is, it's part of the territory. We don't get to work during the week most of the time, so we bang in all of our hours on those crazy weekends. Turn off the pain receptors, suck it up buttercup and think dollar signs

Re: Afraid of Festivals...
Perry hit the nail on the head. When events are free to the guests the lines are always crazy. Ppf events rarely. One reason I try to stear clear of those type events.
