My first butterfly with snazaroo and wal mart brushes. Any suggestions for improvements. Is there a better brand for darker skin?

Hello Shimmer!!! I am VERY new to fp so my advice/suggestions are very limited. I've practiced with Snazaroo and DFX metallics for bases and coverage is great when applied with sponges. After reading through most of the posts on this site...I decided to try DFX for my black and white linework and the outcome was AWESOME. I also own a Paradise splitcake in which I love...including the smell and coverage, but I haven't used it for anything more than a flower. LOL! I hope this helps:)

Oh one more thing...I LOVE how matallics look on my skin. They give my designs a little shine/shimmer oppose to an ashy look. LOL!

Thanks for the input. Yes, this snazaroo, leaves me with an ashy look and I cant stand it. I do plan on using dfx and paradise, for my basis. I have also heard that the Wolfe or paradise black and white are good for line work.

I would also suggest making your top wing larger than your bottom wing and use google for face painting ideas. ie: butterfly face paint. this is what I do when I'm stumped by a request.

Hi there, I think for your 1st try and in addition to using black snazaroo for lines you are on the right track.
I would invest in a couple of good brushes, they will make a big difference.

You can google michaee's, acmoore and joannes fabrics for printable coupons, I know acmoore takes michaels.

Black and white dfx are amazing, I heard tag and wolfe are the same.

I also agree that metallics/pearls look gorgeous on darker skin.

Good luck!

I had snazaroo when I first started and also noticed it didn't flatter the darker skin tones, which was bad, as there is a large black population in my area and I do a lot of parties for and get a lot of repeat business from them.

I really recommend Diamond F/X or Wolfe for the darker skin tones because they are a more opaque color and the undertone won't show through as badly which is what is causing that "ashy" look. And I also agree, metallics look STUNNING on darker skin tones. When ever I get a little black child in my chair, I go out of my way to use metallics in the design because it just looks so good! I also like the Wolfe and D F/X neons on that dark skin, they really pop! Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the feedback. This gives me the "fire" I need to keep practicing. I do agree that my top wing should be a bit larger.

Hi Shimmer, I just started 2 months ago, and the first thing I did was a butterfly. It came out ok. Everything I used was DFX and I used some craft brushes I already had. Hope it helps and I hope you're encouraged! my first butterfly Img02815

Hey Maggie,

I have since done several more, that have come out much better with practice. I am still trying to gain speed and technique. Are you at the point of actually doing parties.

Yes, I painted faces for the children at my church for easter, and again for a spring conference we had. My first Birthday party was this past Saturday! Everything was great! I posted some of the pics on here, but you can go see them on my fb page. facebook.com/hsgifts

I have an upcoming Walmart gig, and another party, this June!!! Smile
