Need Butterfly help!
Hello all! I have a quinceanera to do and the theme of it is butterflies. The bday girl's has chosen light to dark purple as a color pallette. I have to paint 15 girls with a half butterfly design and and the birthday girl and her junior miss in full face butterfly designs. I have a ton of butterfly designs that that I do but I am looking for some new designs or inspiration to draw from. Any body have any suggestions on getting it all done by myself in a 1/2 hour? Can you guys post pics to draw inspiration from?
Thanks,
Alicia

Re: Need Butterfly help!
For speed try making a rainbow cake, then flip the sponge for the bottom wing on half of them, giving a bit of variety.
A few of my butterflys are shown here on the forum

I have so many butterfly designs I manage to make each one different during parties but 15 in 30 min is rushing it abit for me.
Cheers,
Susan

Re: Need Butterfly help!
A rainbow cake is totally the way to go. Do it white, lavendar and then dark purple. You will get several shades of light to dark purple in there. I would then line them all up and apply all the bases first. Then go back and do the line work, then all the dots, then all the stars and then all the glitter or bling. Doing it like this eliminates there all getting in the chair and heming and hawing around. Also, make sure the parent knows that they all need to be clean and ready for you to pull it off so fast.
Also, when under such high pressure, I wouldn't bother learning anything new. Go with what you know for the quickest turn around. The rainbow cake will add the added flair you are looking for. Maybe the silver bling as well.
Good luck and make sure to post some pics!

Wow... 15 in 30 min... I agree with Metina, the assembly line is the way to go. Worked for Ford. I think I have a butterfly in my gallery that's pretty simple, but I doubt if you need 15 completely unique butterflies. Maybe 13 sorta the same, and 2 unique.
Re: Need Butterfly help!
It would be 17 total. 15 half faces and 2 full faces, I told the mother of the bday girl I needed an hour but I am trying to accomplish it in less time. I dont want the girl to be late to her party

Re: Need Butterfly help!
Why you doing that to yourself - can't they start any earlier?
This is my speed line butterfly. This one is too thick - use a #4 brush for the out line it's 4 strokes plus the body. I used a brush didn't have a split cake that day. Add White dots and glitter. I can do this in a minute without dots.

Re: Need Butterfly help!
I think I saw this half butterfly on the snaz site, well something similar to it, mine came out a tad different. Anyway I really like doing this one now and I think its very simple and pretty.
Lay down the base color and then its 8 strokes with black paint and then butterfly body, alittle white for accent, glitter, done! You could prolly make the body more delicate then I did.

Re: Need Butterfly help!
With all these great suggestions, I'm hopeing you get photos and share them here to show us some more quick butterflys ; )
Re: Need Butterfly help!
I have a quick 2 min Butterfly posted here in my gallery.
When I expand it to two wings it's a 3-4 min face - like the Faerie Butterfly design in my gallery. See my gallery - I don't have luck posting images (yes following the instructions correctly). All in my gallery are my cranked out super fast on the job butterflies. I do different types but this is my basic for speed.
The fast bottoms of the wings - a simple one movement stroke -
long vertical teardrop, pick the brush up to tip for a short horizontal teardrop -
spring back to tip and brush a line line upwards.
It is fast and easy, and can be one wing or two for a full face effect, dresses up easy with flowers or extra curls and swirls around the wings.
I do think blending light to dark and proper placement following the facial lines (too many are too large) are key to nice butterflies - then nice outside stokework.

Re: Need Butterfly help!
My very fast butterfly: it is a "sunset" rainbow cake. Then a big outline with #8 brush that is dragged in with a rag brush (done with the left hand if in a big hurry). I would apply the glitter either before the line on the still wet sponged on base colour or just on top of the still wet black (or another colour) line.
By having a rainbow cake that is bigger than your sponge, you can get bases that are more different from each other, by using different part of the cake.
You can also make it darkest on the inside and then have either a light, medium or dark outline.

Re: Need Butterfly help!
Good thought on having the cake larger than the sponge. Do you have any photos to share of the cake vs. sponge LW? I am pretty sure I get the idea, but if I am going to steal the idea, seeing it would be nice.
Re: Need Butterfly help!
Judy, yes that was just me not spelling it the right way
Metina, I don't have any with the sponge, but I have a picture of the palette with some DFX so you can compare the size.

Re: Need Butterfly help!
No problem... I was kind of looking forward to getting yet another new gadget brush! lol But I already have a rake brush but never thought of using it this way! Thanks! I love that effect!
