Thanks Angie! Unfortunately - I can't take credit as a sweet lady in the FABAIC 2008 jam painted them. I just wanted to have a fun painted face avatar to switch things up. The raccoon was getting tired..... it was my first one....and needed to retire. I am painting my 18 year old now.....which is such a coo as she rarely is in the mood. She has loads of natural talent. Mark Reid complemented her tiger stripes last year and told me to keep working on mine....I was so crushed. She was beaming. I had only been painting a few weeks so constructive critique was good.

Hiya,

Here is what they are using. I would just avoid the music for the forum since some people view it at work.

Post Submissions Here! - Page 3 Empty April Split Cake Competition

Post by Winger1200 Mon Apr 27, 2009 10:10 pm

Well, I finally got my new paints all arranged in my pallet. Thanks Metina for the marvelous paints and thanks Angie for the color combination suggestions ; ) I posted more info about the pallet on the Split Cakes section.

For the April Split Cake Competition I created an Angel Heart using the white/blue paint combination with a #12 brush for the wings Post Submissions Here! - Page 3 P1020716
and for the heart I used the gold, yellow, and red part of my rainbow colors in the small Metina Box with a #12 brush. Gold finishes it off with a halo & highlights in the heart using a #3 round brush. I used a bit of red to define the halo.

Playing in my blue/white paint, I came up with a design to appeal to the sport fishing men. Im not used to my newer camera so please bear with me. Using the darker side of the blue/white paint combination in my small pot, I began with a simple comma stroke.
Post Submissions Here! - Page 3 P1020720

Then flipped my brush to create the lower half of the Marlin.
Post Submissions Here! - Page 3 P1020723
Two quick strokes for the swordlike mouth with a curve of a flower petal stroke defining the gills and two leaf strokes for the lower fins.
Post Submissions Here! - Page 3 P1020724
A curving wiggle stroke creates the huge top sail fin and restroked part of the back that connects to the fin for definition...
Post Submissions Here! - Page 3 P1020725
then I added splashes using the white/blue combination, dotted an eye with the darker blue part of my brush and wa-la an eight stroke Marlin!

Susan... are you using the Macro setting on your camera when you take your photos? I thing it would help immensely with your focus - if taking extreme close-ups the macro setting has to be on to get the focus sharp. On the Sony cameras it is indicated by the tulip icon.

Thanks Shannon! I changed to macro and redid the Marlin again using my small pot combination of Snaz white, classic blue with a snippet of electric blue, using a #10 Donna Dewberry flat brush.

I have florescent lighting, which alters the colors somewhat. I dont have models handy, so I have to wait until thursday to get more photos.

Oi Vey! This is a learning curve of the camera & posting photos. It must be the artist in me to keep changing things. I didn't like the flat brush splashes, so I got out a bristle butterfly fan brush I made and just loaded the tips with white, placed them where I wanted splashies, gave the brush a slight push so the bristles bend upwards four times (Bob Ross oil painting technique) and got more realistic splashes.

Lots of cool submissions. Getting down to the last two days.

Again, I highly recommend using this slide show website or something similar. I even made one for my website and it looks very professional. Plus it allows everyone to look at your pics as a slide show or all at once.

Though make sure to post a seperate photo of the final product as I can't seem to copy an image from the slideshow for my voting sheet. ALWAYS SOMETHING! LOL

Thankyou so much, as an artist, I cant settle for just one color! Rainbows & color combinations fall off my brush & sponge ; )
The brush holder is an ice tube maker, three bucks at walmart, with a lid that the tube maker sits in on my table for stability. I love that it holds my sponge brushes & stencil daubers, too (set of ten, three different sizes at walmart, too for just under five bucks ; )

Ack, this has been a crazy busy month for me... I've been helping my son with his Science Fair Project and it's tonight! So I think I put off doing a face too long!

I might post some 'post contest' pics just for reference for anyone wanting to see to add to the communal 'pot' of ideas though!

I got some of the Arty Brush colors and that neon kit. I also made up a bunch of little rainbow/multi cakes with my little wolfe 'basics' kit. So many new things. I'm still working on the 'Arty Brush' brush stroke to make them look as good and easy as she does!

Great stuff here. I just finally had a chance to peek again! Good luck all!
