Re: Post Submissions Here!
I am so excited to see Michelles tiger. Been looking for good colors for boys that would work for fast ministry events(two painters...150 kids...3 hours). pastel rainbow girls. and needed something for boys. Thats perfect colors. You saved me from tedious work on hundreds of kids.
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Wow! The lips on that tiger look awesome... they really look like they have an unhuman curve. I'm taking careful notes!
Wish I had some more empty containers. What are you all doing for containers?

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Facepaint containers, plastic lozenge containers, make-up compacts... anything that is food or cosmetic grade (non-metallic) that has a fitted lid.

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Some people will get the make up containers from the dollar store. I cannot remember the brand but there is one that works really well beause the two sections or seperated by a tiny divider. Still close enough to work as a split cake, but slight divide to use seperately.
Though my problem is that I have consolidated all my paint into one large pallette type thing(a large bead organizer) and now I don't want to start adding all of this individual cakes!
I am hoping to come up with some ala Rebecca's that have several colors that can be used for several different things and can fit in my palette.

Im sure some of you remember this one I had as my avatar a while back.

I did it on me today using the split cake method. Doesn't look as nice on me as it does on my princess but here it is.

Ha! I've been there, done that, right down to the bead organizer which is probably blue with a clear lid. I ended up not being able to stand it! I had to have large round wells for my split cakes and sunset cakes and rainbow cakes and all that wonderful stuff. I've since switched to a Pro-22 Snaz palette and love it. I had room for everything I wanted (some doubled up in one well) plus a few leftover wells for must-haves later on. My rainbow cakes and sunset cakes and all are in there too. I love it.
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Angie, I would love to see a photo of your pallet! I want to make more split cake combinations and would love any suggestions.
I couldn't stand it either and consolidated most of my split & rainbow cakes into a compact 11x12.5" watercolor paint pallet I found at Michaels (w/ coupon under $5.) On one side, it has four 18ml cake sized round wells with eight square ones in the middle, great for sponge work! 8 2ml sized wells are on the other side for stroke work colors. My only lament is that the pallet is white and didn't come with a lid. When I find it, the pallet will fit into my Masterson's Stay-Wet Pallet case.
While searching for the Masterson's case, I just happened to run across an old double sided audio tape case that holds the paint pallet, ice tube brush holder and most of my supplies just fine! It's great to discover new uses for old stuff in storage ; )
Happy Painting,
Susan

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Well, I tried uploading a photo but it's saying my file is corrupted. I'll try something later and see if it works. I basically have these color combos:
A purple/lilac/white cake and a pink/light pink/ white cake for butterflies
Blue/Teal
Pink/Light Pink
Purple/Lilac
Black/Electric Black
Rainbow
Sunset (yellow in center, ringed in orange, ringed in red)
Rust Brown and Yellow Ocre for cats
Lime Green and Pale Green
and I think that's it.
I've chunked my orange in favor of Dark Orange which I love (all of this is Snaz), and I am going to chunk my Paradise Wild Orchid I think, because I just don't like the way it blends. I also have Kryolan Silver and Copper together.

OC, I loved that avatar! That's great! Thank you for doing it again with the step by step for the contest! I like the use of white for the line work instead of black..sometimes that will go better with outfits too!
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Thank you heather. Although I feel it is fair to point out I the idea from somewhere else way back when I just don’t remember where.
My Parrot Mask
Here is my very first original creation, humble as it may be. It is made with my very first split cake too (need to find a more suitable container for it).
First I sponged on my base using a split cake made from Wolfe paint in yellow, red, and blue. Don't worry, I know the cake is pathetic. It was my first 'experiment'
[url=]
[url=]
Next I applied a bit of Paradise white around the eyes and used a liner brush to make the thin black lines that some parrots have. Then I used Paradise black to outline the mask and make the beak. I applied glitter around the edges and poof glitter over all. I'm grinning here because I tripped over my tripod on the way to the chair when the timer was ticking and messed up everything. I managed to right it and get in the chair before the picture was snapped. Miracle.

I love the primary colors together!

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Glenda!!! YAY for Facebook Friends!!!!! Your butterfly was awesome - the intensity of the colors and the fabulous little girl!
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Angie - electric black?! What on earth...?! If you can find an uncorrupted file, I'd love to see a photo of that (ie in your split, to see the difference!)
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Beautiful Parrot Mask! I like the grin too! I can only imagine the heart still is a thumping as you try to straighten the tripod and dive for your chair and 'pose and smile' just in the nick of time!
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Looks real nice. If you make another one in this order red, yellow, blue, you will have the full rainbow since the red will mix with the yellow and put orange between it and then yellow and blue will make green. Just a suggestion.
When you say electric black, what is that. I have been thinking of finding a metallic black. Thanks!

Re: Post Submissions Here!
Snazaroo has an electric black out but I've not noticed a significant difference in color/effect. It's a bit more shimmery. I hardly ever use it... I need to experiment with it more!
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Im getting electrics tomorrow. Does the electric black make good dark outlines?
Cheers,
Susan

Re: Post Submissions Here!
I'm not really happy with the linework using Snaz black or electric black. They do well if you really take a LOT of time to prepare the cake and get the consistency right, but I am too impatient for that so I use Paradise black instead. I use Snaz black for covering large areas such as batman masks, pirate patches, etc.
Re: Post Submissions Here!
Very pretty OC! Are the flowers red or pink? I love that color...it looks like a salmon color.
