My first Zombies!!
Well my boyfriend and I decided this year for halloween we wanted to be Zombies... but not any ordinary zombies, we went as Lebron James's #1 fans... Andrew died from being stabbed in the back, and I was thrown under the bus. (being from Cleveland this was VERY popular!)
I bought some special effects products from a local costume shop who was able to give me quick demos on how to use it, but I never got a chance to practice before last night when I was doing the real thing! I have to say, even I can't believe how well we turned out! First, I have to say a huge THANK YOU to LisaJoyYoung, Silly Heather & Fanciful Faces on YouTube for posting some fantastic zombie & special effect gore video tutorials. I don't know if I could have done it without watching your videos (a few times!). The first couple shots were pre-blood, we added more fake blood once we got to the party, so we didn't get it all over the car.
Even the day after I am still REALLY excited about these... I hope you like it too, and please tell me what you think!!

Very impressive. It's hard to believe this was a first time for you, it looks very professional. You have every right to be excited!

Re: My first Zombies!!
Love it! I grew up in Ohio so I can understand the die-hardness that comes along with sports fans. Great idea.
Re: My first Zombies!!
Fantastic! I just did my first zombie today, but no where near as awesome as yours!!
Re: My first Zombies!!
Amanda,
What special FX products did you use? Can you add the youtube links you used too?
Thanks!

Re: My first Zombies!!
Thanks guys!! I can't believe how much fun I had doing this... I wish I had an excuse to make people zombies more often than halloween!
I'll try to describe what I did for you, unforunately we were so tight on time I forgot to take pictures while I was doing it.
For the open head wound on my boyfriend I used special effects modeling wax to build up the outside "skin". I also used that on myself to make my pock mark looking wounds. You put some liquid latex on first, to make your skin sticky, then the wax, then go over it again with latex and some powder. (I just used makeup powder) The neck and face scars were just rolled out cotton (from cotton balls) sealed with liquid latex. The flaky skin was just tissue paper... you put a thin coat of liquid latex on the skin for the adhesive, then the crumpled tissue paper, then go over it all with the liquid latex again. That trick was on a little hand out idea sheet I got from the store, and i loved the effect. Once I got all that stuff on it only took a few minutes to dry. Then I used my normal face paints after that and it worked great! I had some really chunky fake blood, and also the liquid fake blood that got added after the painting. I got all of this stuff at a local year round costume shop by me who supplies alot of theater makeup. They gave me little quick demos on how to use all of the products. I think sillyfarm.com carries it all too.
Here are the three main videos I used for inspiration. I watched 3 or 4 other random videos but don't remember what they were.
Fanciful Faces had the best painting I thought, so I used mainly her "look" as my inspiration, and she showed the cotton scar technique: https://www.youtube.com/user/FancifulFaces#p/u/3/P6KgA7FyyqM
LisaJoyYoung had a great tutorial on a zombie face that gave me some good painting tips and descriptions of how to get the look (LOVE her videos!): https://www.youtube.com/user/lisajoyyoung#p/search/3/F8YLYLuyRls
SillyHeatherB from SillyFarm.com did a fantastic tutorial on how to use the special effects products. She used grease paint (which I just used for the first time last week too, and am not a fan), but she showed how to use the wax and latex really well. And she gives great instructions and tips.: https://www.youtube.com/user/sillyheatherb#p/u/33/hv7LKpCxwaU
