Need advice for PPF quickie Zombies!
Yes, I've already googled zombies and have lots of reference photos.
I have an event coming up where I'll be doing PPF zombies. It's at a college baseball game, where a company will be rolling out a new zombie fighting ap. They aren't paying per hour, they are just arranging for me to be there and charge. I'm not really into zombies and haven't really done them before so...
My concerns are:
1. How do I do them quick because it's PPF and I want to do high volume, but of course, want them to look good and like actual zombies.
2. How do I do it so they don't all look exactly the same?
3. How do I display samples? I mean, maybe do a basic dead skin zombie face and they get to choose where they want a wound? Maybe one wound included in the price and more for extra?
4. I don't have or want to use prosthetics, just paint and starblends.
THANKS!!

Dear IamGinaW:
I believe Miss Ronnie does Zombie Quickies.
Wait!
That doesn't sound right.
I believe Miss Ronnie is fast with Zombies.
Eeeewwwww!
It still doesn't sound right.
Um,
going back to my box now.
xoxo

Nah, I know it's you that has the dirty mind...er keyboard
Btw, Gina, I know we're not helping you with so back on target: STARBLENDS. They make excellent zombie bases. I'm also a big fan of doing a bloody zombie mouth (rather than the full zombie) as a fast zombie option.

Denise Cold does some great zombies with starblends. I can't find them on here, although I know they are here. I could link them to you from facebook, but she has them posted in a closed group, so you have to be a member of the group to see them. Maybe you could PM her and she could link you the thread here that I can't seem to find.
Starblend Zombies
I think the secret is to do what Brian and Nick do with quick zombies...use their own flesh color as the mid-tone, darken the sockets and the usual skeleton areas with brownple and then highlight the bony areas with ivory. Nick didn't even bother to paint teeth on the quick zombie he did on FABAtv...he just did a lot of blood and let her teeth be the zombie teeth and made her eat a bit of paint. I did it using a homemade brownple of starblends.
I also used Starblends to do a really rotten zombie...so maybe you could do rotten and really rotten and let them choose. Same idea, just used Lt. Gray overall for the midtone and then monster gray and black for the shadows and white for the highlights and threw a little green in.
I bet with Starblends you could have these down to 5 minutes.
Here's my photos but Nick is so much better at line work but I still liked mine:
Here's one I did on a friend that has a latex wound on it (it was really dark, he had a lot of oil to adhere the Monster Gray starblends):
Hubby as Professor Zombie:
Here's me with really defined separation between colors:
With a few painted teeth:
Really rotten with teeth:
Here's the really rotten with no teeth or blood...yet:
Here's some zombie teeth only. I think this would be popular...quick, lots of blood (I don't like stage blood...just mix paint) you could do different patterns and maybe do their nose a bit. You'd do a better job than I did of making it look 3-D.

Re: Need advice for PPF quickie Zombies!
You beat me to it Diane. I think especially if you used a puff with the Starblends it would go really fast. I liked using a rake brush to get texture so it was more organic and not so illustrative/cartoony.
Oh, I found out that Starblends does NOT stick to zombie skin. You have to cover the zombie skin with matching paint. PITA.

You mean that, after all these years, I FINALLY have a reputation?!!!!
Yee-haaaaaa!
Re: Need advice for PPF quickie Zombies!
for my realistic zombies, I dont add much paint for skin tone, maybe some white for highlights and a brown for dirtying up the face, and a bunch of red, and black and more brown for blood. It's hard to explain in the written word, at least for me. you dont even need wounds.
Re: Need advice for PPF quickie Zombies!
Brown for line work adds quite a lot, and you don't have to worry about harsh black lines. I'm not terrific at zombies, but even if you don't want fx, you want BLOOD- it is SO much easier than painting it- and people get a real kick out of it oozing down the face. I would have a cheap- blood splatter option- $5 to have escaped the zombie attack- etc.
For real quick I darken the eyes and give them a bloody wound on the hairline, so when I add the blood it drips out of the hair.
Good luck!
