rainbow butterfly problem
Okay, so I'm new to this and I just bought the normal rainbow cake. I plan on doing a butterfly with it, but I heard you shouldn't put red on the eyes. I tried it on me and my brother and it never had any bad effect. My brother washed it off right away (not liking the idea of a sparkly butterfly on his face), but I left mine on for about 12 hours. I never had any reaction until I wiped it off and it was itchy for about five minutes like i had allergies. I tried using the purple on the inside, but it looks like someone punched me in the eyes. What to do?

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
My rainbow was wrong too so I just sliced & swaped the colours around. Now I have red and purple together on the outside.

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
Put white in the centre of the butterfly, over the eye area, and the rainbow on the outer wing.

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
Oh I like that idea, Shannon! I bought a DFX regular rainbow cake and I didn't like how the dark purple stained. So I didn't use it at all at the past couple events I was at and I was wondering how I would use it up. Simple solution, thank you! - I will use white in the centre, and use only part of the rainbow for the rest.
The neon rainbow cake is awesome and doesn't have the red or that dark purple in it - and boy does it pop! I've used one up already! But I am a little worried about the new labelling - need to check and see if it is covered by the insurance coverage that Clowns Canada offers.

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
I also like the tropical rainbow very much!...but the colours don't pop so much, obviously...
Re: rainbow butterfly problem
I have never had any DFX cakes but the silly farm cakes are what I use. I use a lot of the neon rainbow cakes, they have hot neon pink instead of red, but when I use a regular rainbow cake I brush the eye lid with another color as well.
Re: rainbow butterfly problem
Thanks everyone! This is what it looked like. You can't really see the sparkle and I forgot the body. I need more practise. I will probable try white on the eyes or changing the colors around. Thanks agian!

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
Any ideas on how to make it look more like a butterfly would be great. Thanks!

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
my cake is a circle and red and purple are on the edges, so they are curved. How would I move them next to each other?

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
I would think you would want the red in the outside so it's not getting near the eye, like my avatar that was done with a round rainbow cake with red and purple in edges. Does that make sense?

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
I'm not very good at explaining things. My cake looks like this I want to cut out the red and move it next to the purple at one end so they are far away from the eyes. Then, the orange would be around the eyes instead of red, like in the butterfly I posted before and the red and purple would be farthest from the eyes. But since every color is a difference size, if I moved them, they wouldn't fit. Is there away to melt them down or reshape them to fit? I'm not sure this makes sense either.

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
I don't think you can really move those around - unless you cut them and put them in a different container.... maybe.
Honestly I stopped using a regular rainbow for my butterflies and rainbow tigers etc. they just don't have the pop of the neon ones. Given the choice the kids always choose the neon..... also the rectangle containers wears more evenly.... not perfect but still better.
Then you don't have the red/purple issue as the neon runs from orange to pink.
I keep my regular rainbow for doing actual rainbows... like this...
Then my butterflies are brighter with neon... like this...
or reverse the colours...
You can get the DFX neon here in the forum shop .... or let us know where you are in the world and we can suggest other places to buy...
Hope that helps

Ahhhh *light bulb moment*.. I have the same rainbow cake and I could not figure out what was wrong with my butterflies..
Will have to try re-arranging
Re: rainbow butterfly problem
Sorry I thought you had one like mine. I think the only thing you could do would be to put it in a different container or do what Tash does and only use it for rainbows. What a pain!!

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
I have the same rainbow cake and love it. but I can tell you my Neon gets used more than any other cake I have..... The kids love the neon colors. But with my regular rainbow... I just angle it differently so that the red is the bottom of the butterfly wing and the purple is the top that way the middle colors are over the eye. For 5 and under I just try not to get anything super close to their eyes anyway.

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
I go through a neon a month. The kids just love it.
Also, if you shift the colors it won't be a true rainbow cake

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
I have the DFX rainbow cake and the purple is on the inside and red on the outside like some of the ones you guys have shown. The problem would be if I did cut it and put the purple on the outside of the red, I would have the blue on the eye, I don't think that would be very flattering either and might also make it look like the poor kid's been punched in the eye. The next color is green, and that is still a bruisy color. Would I have to cut it all the way up to yellow and move it to the end? Sorry if this seems like a silly question, I am such a newbie.

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
The purple shouldn't bother the eyes I would just angle it so the red is on the outside like how changingface design butterfly is in that last photo the purple is in the inside the red is on the outside.
Kids aren't that picky when it comes to rainbow so unless your doing a gay pride event It really shouldn't matter. But if you do a pride event it matters to them so you better have the rainbow the right way or you will hear it.

Re: rainbow butterfly problem
I moved mine, not because of purple on the eyes irritating them but my daughter and other kids I did the rainbow butterfly on look horrible. It seems to sink their eyes or something. I don't know, it just looks wrong to me. Since I've change my cake it's much prettier on the faces.
