Cricut and glitter tattoos

I have been making my own glitter tattoos with my cricut. Great fun and very cheap!!! I'll post some pictures later tonight.

I used my Silhouette to make stencils for temporary tattoos (we were using ForNow tattoo daubers). It is cool to be able to make custom designs!!

I love making anything my little heart desires. If I see stencils on someones site that I like.... I can now make my own. And there is no waiting on the mail either, lol.

I wondered how that would work but never tried it! Do you use a bit of glitter adhesive to hold the stencil in place when applying glue to the opening?

You can cut adhesive-backed vinyl with the machines - a lot of people use them to make wall decals that are so popular now. Or to make stencils for glass etching. For the tattoo stencils, I really cheaped out and cut them out of mactac (shelf liner) from the dollar store - worked fine for single use stencils.

I use Oracal adhesive backed vinyl..... the same stuff the big wigs use. It runs about $15 for a 15" by 30ft roll...cheap!! I get mine at http://www.signsupply.com

Can the Silhouette cut images that aren't a font? or purchased from their online shop? Like, can you design an image and then cut it on the machine on your own?

I bought a $60 program that allows me to turn any clip art, widget, picture, signature, ANYTHING..... into a format that will cut on my cricut. I know need to never by a cartridge ever again. If you are interested I'll give you more info,

The program is by Craft Edge called Sure Cuts A Lot or SCAL. The best place to purchase it is http://www.scrappingtable.com/home.html It is on sale right now for $57.95. If you buy it from her, you have access to all of the stuff on her site for free. This is a wonderful bonus!!! You will also need to download a free program called Inkscape.... http://download.cnet.com/Inkscape/3000-6675_4-10527269.html From there you can make anything your heart desires into a cuttable image.

On her site there are tons of video tutorials also!!

wow, very cool! I never got a Cricut(even though I thought that they were really cool) because I thought that it could only cut things from cartridges... it seemed like a real waste of money, but with the addition of the software, it sounds far more appealing! I could have die cuts for my silkscreen projects and stencils, and tat stencils...hmmmmmmm... this could be worth looking into!

What is the difference between the different ones? I tried to see at their homepage, but didn't find it very clear.

so can you guys tell me if i wanted to do glitter tatoos what a realistic monetary investment woudl be. i am thinking lets say other than a starter set.

i woudl love a reason to get a cricut or similar not only for the glitter tatoo side of it, but for sewing for appliques and stuff, and possibly scrapbooking

so wha twoudl be a good $ for the machine, some of the adhesive

and then what woudl you suggest for the glitter part of it all?

i think i woud be much more interested in doing glitter tattoos if i coudl cut my own designs.

They have a small cricut that runs around $100-$150.... it has a cutting surface of 6x12 so you can cut anything up to that size, which is plenty big for even the largest glitter tattoos. The large cricut expres​sion($200-$250) can cut images up to 12x24. I have both, but mostly use the expression because the cutting sheet does 5rows of 5, 2inch stencils which gives me 25 glitter tattoo stencils per sheet.

The vinyl from http://signsupply.com/Index_Ordway.asp is cheap. It runs $12.95 for a 15inch wide by 10 yard roll (30 feet). They also sell the transfer tape in standard and clear.

Truly, I now wish I had bought a Cricut rather than a Silhouette. Mostly because the blades and mats are more commonly available and, for the most part, cheaper. At the time I bought, however, the Sure-Cuts-A-Lot program was not yet available for the Cricut so the Silhouette seemed so much more versatile. I didn't want to get stuck only using cartridges.

Not only can I use any font (including dingbats which are so much fun!) but I can also create designs with the software. I think you can do the same with the Cricut with the SCAL program but I'm not sure.

hmm... I'd want something that allowed me to draw my own designs on the computer and then would cut those out for me.. I don't like being confined to a set repertoire of designs, or a specific way of drawing... I draw so much on the computer that it seems silly for me to try and only do drawing with a set parameter.

You can most certainly make your own designs with the SCAL program and Inkscape. So draw away!!!

I'd really enjoy seeing some pictures of your cricut creations, I knew there had to be a more thrifty way to make those stencils, the ones currently on the market are really nice and all, but a bit of a rip-off price wise..in my opinion. If you get some free time, show us some pics, that would be swell.
