My Neighbor had an allergic reaction ........................
I was practicing on some neighbor kids on Saturday. This one, came to me tonight asking me what he might be allergic to. I feel horrible. He is all broken out in the spots where the paint was. The worst is right above the eyes in the eyebrow area.
His parents are cool. They are not mad, just wondered if anybody else had problems. The other thing is, he did not have this on very long. Maybe a 1/2 hour. It was hot and humid that day and he wanted to go swimming so his mom washed it off and he went.
I used DFX Light blue metallic, outlined in black and white wolfe. Any feedback to what he is allergic to in the DFX?
Thank you for your help. Oh yea, He has not had skin problems in the past.

Well, I'm allergic to the Acacia Gum (Gum Arabic) that is in DFX and Wolfe. That's a possibility if he's allergic to anti-inflammatory medications. There is also the colours in it... some children are allergic to certain food colourings.
Re: My Neighbor had an allergic reaction ........................
are you sure its a rash and not little pimples? He may have very sensative skin and clogged his pores? I don't know...Perry's seems more likely. He should go the the DRs and get allergy tests done
Re: My Neighbor had an allergic reaction ........................
Well, he was fine with the blue popcicle I gave him the other day. lol
Re: My Neighbor had an allergic reaction ........................
i just got a slight rash from wiping away the paint for the competion with baby wipes...maybe it was what he used to wipe it away?

Or a reaction with the sunlight? I react to the sun and sometimes when I'm painted I get different than usual rashes.
I get small blisters all over in the heat... my skin resembles a crocodile sort of ... all bumpy. Once it cools down my skin goes back to normal.
Sometimes I think I am part alien.

Shannon, you crack me up... Yes... Avatar Please... put on some paint, go sun bathing & show us the outerworlds results!
Re: My Neighbor had an allergic reaction ........................
DFX & Wolfe had some issues a while back w/ their China Made products... could it be related to that? I'd contact DFX & see what they have to say.
Re: My Neighbor had an allergic reaction ........................
Was he sweating a lot? The extra salinity of his skin and excess waste he'd be excreting from his pores in that heat may have reacted to the paint in a more adverse than normal way. Also, how old is he? Even if he hasn't had skin issues in the past, if he is nearing the age of puberty, his skin may be becoming more sensitive without anyone's knowledge and this just set it off.

He was sweating alot. It has been very hot and humid up here. It's been horrible. That is why he only had it on for a short time, he wanted to go swimming.
He is only 6, but when I first looked at him, I thought the break out on his face looked like pimples. I quickly disreguarded that thought because of his age, but when I asked him if it itched, he stated no and his sister chimed in that he doesn't even know it's there. Which I thought was odd, if it was more of an allergic reaction, wouldn't he be itching like crazy or sore?
This isn't the first time he has been painted. I painted him back in May for the reading carnival I did at school. He had no problems then.

My 7yr old gets like a heat rash when his pores get clogged and it only happens when it is super hot, It looks very much like acne without the little white heads on it.

Ah, given that new little bit of information I would have to say that was not an allergic reaction.
Believe it or not, the number of times he has been painted before has no bearing on how he would react to being painted again. Allergic reactions happen all the time where the body suddenly decides a foreign substance is harmful and the immune system takes over and attacks it. For example, people who love peanuts and have eaten them all their lives with no adverse effects could suddenly develop an allergy to nuts. Meaning, anyone, even one of us, can become allergic to the paint we use day in and day out; it's just a quirk of the body.
But allergic reactions are very noticable by the person expiriencing the reaction. Their skin becomes red from the excess blood rushing to deliver the white blood cells to counteract the irritation and that also produces extra heat. He would have expirience a burning sensation on his face where the paint touched it. Itching occurs for a couple reasons, one being the release of histamine from the allergic reaction and two from the brain perceiving that something is there causing the irritation, so that gets you to scratch at your skin to try and get it off; it is a reflex.
If neither of these happened, I seriously doubt it was an allergic reaction. He could just be developing skin sensitivities that he never had before, and like I said, the paint could have just been that one factor to highlight the sensitivities and make them more apparent.

Just a thought - it might be a metallic paint issue.
If you painted him before and nothing happened, but this time it did I was just thinking it may have been the metallic paint ingredients that caused the issue. Can you remember what you used before?
