New banners I just ordered
I just ordered some new banners from vistaprint for displaying my sample photos.... I know I can't switch the pictures out now as I get better, but even if I only use these for a year or two and have to switch them later, it's not so bad (it was about $60 for both, outdoor fabric, and rush shipping so I can use them next Saturday). I don't put prices to them on here because I do sometimes change my prices for different events.
Re: New banners I just ordered
Very nice, Perry. How big do you get them? Do you hang them on the back wall of your tent?

Re: New banners I just ordered
Very nice. I used a pocket calandar from School Aid. I had to secure it to the front of the tent at the top & tape it to a table at the bottom(this kept it from flying around in the wind). It worked perfect as the table is my daughters henna station & the sign doubled as shade for her. I totally forgot to take pics.
Re: New banners I just ordered
well, I used to have 4x6 photos laminated and hung on a string between two standchions. Thing is, it takes too long to set it up and at most events, there isn't really a "line" of kids to need the standchions.
The plan is to hang these at the front of my tent near my little A frame price sign. Not sure exactly how I'm hanging them yet, but I'm thinking maybe velcro the tops to my tent and put a small dowel attached to the bottom so they don't curl? I ordered the "small banner" from vista print for each of these. I think it was about a metre tall? something like that.

I use vista print also. The quality is fantanstic for the $20 six foot banner I just received. So low, I can change my mind and the design with out breaking me financially. I am very happy with this product.
Re: New banners I just ordered
Those look pretty good Perry.... only thing, both Wolverine and Spiderman are copyrighted names when used with images of the characters. And now that Disney is involved .... well...

I do a 1/2 face spidey guy. Do you think that's infringing on copyright laws?
Re: New banners I just ordered
I have changed my spidey to more of a mask and don't call them spiderman as well, just incase. I also offer it in different colors. Now I am not using "their" logo or design. I don't know if this gets me out of the copywrite but makes me feel better.
Re: New banners I just ordered
Perry....I am trying to create my banner right this second. How the heck were you able to add text and all of your pictures? I ordered my from Costco....I am have a bear of a time. I ordered 3 banners only one turned out the other two had terrible "drapes" in the fabric....so unprofessional. Yours looks nice and smoothe. Please tell me how tall and wide and of course the price. I paid like $115 for a 5X2'...

Perry hasn't been on the forum in a really long time. Just thought you'd like to know.
Re: New banners I just ordered
To add text to photos, there is a wonderful free site called lunapic. Try it!

Re: New banners I just ordered
I recommend a program called Artisan by Panstoria. Â Here is a link to a 30 day free trial:
http://www.panstoria.com/artisan/trial/
You can specify any size, add text (whatever font you have on your computer), crop, edit, watermark, embellish, and more. Â I use it for everything! Â Here are some things I made with it:

Saloner - On the top, click on "DRAW". When you get the dropdown menu, click on "Watermark Tool" or "Simple Caption Tool". These will allow you to add text. Then, yes, download your captioned photo to your computer, and then upload it to your banner-making site. Hope this works for you!

Re: New banners I just ordered
Roseenburg Cox: gee I don't know how you got a 6' banner for just $20. but then I got the heavier gauge vinyl 50g for outside. JJJ I will try and add my pictures and the prices and verbiage. One last question.....(smiling) They have a stand for the vertical banner, it is made of plastic and aluminum...anyone try theirs? $39. Should I get a stand somewhere else? You guys have been so helpful....thank you
Re: New banners I just ordered
Oh Oh I thought of another question....how do you estimate how many photos? Is there an easy math equation that I can figure?
Re: New banners I just ordered
Usually unless you are a big big company you won't have any issue with copy righted  names, but it's always good to be safe. Besides if anyone does have a problem they have to send a 'cease and desist letter', also known as an "infringement letter" or a "demand letter,"  which is an order or request that a party halt an activity. At which point you can simply change it to "spider guy"
It's a simple change for the small fry's like us, and they know it. Often times it's costs more time and resources to send the letter then to just ignore it. :/
As for the signs, they are ok. Did you design them yourself? Photoshop?
I've had years of practice with photoshop design. I noticed that the color around the titles are kind of pixelated, is that on the printed posters too or just the jpg here?
I ran into a girl who had this problem at the print store, she was asking the front desk why her photos on a post card she made were so blurry because they were high quality, but on her test print card they were crap. He didn't know, but I did. I asked her what program she used to create the post card, and it was photoshop. So I said the problem more then likely is when she made the image the default resolution setting was at 72px when she first started, she needs to bump it up (I always start at 300px) and start from scratch. The lower the px count the less information your images have and when you print them they are pixelated or blurry. This is true for other image editing programs too.
Another great thing to do with text is play with simple effects. In photoshop you double click on your text layer and then you can add outlines, shadows, glows, color gradients, embossing, you name it.
Here's the difference with just adding a simple embossing to the letters to give more depth.
Go from flat to 'POP'
Hope this simply trick helps everyone with their next sign!

I started the trial....there isn't a "draw" button to click. I am sorry to bother you this way, I would like to get this banner done before the festivals start
Re: New banners I just ordered
Not sure then. Why not ask lunapic? Or google something like "free captions on your photos" to find an easier site to work with.

Why? Not sure what you mean about the malware?

Re: New banners I just ordered
It's pretty much well known that most sites that offer free captions for your photos are sites that put malware on your computer. Same with sites offering 'free desktop background' downloads for your computer. The moment you start down loading free games, apps, and stuff like this you open yourself up for lots of computer bugs. Even just by visiting their website this can happen. Make sure you have all your anti-virus programs up to date, install AVG, and 'ad blocker plus', if you don't have them already.

Just to chime in quickly with what you're saying... any time you're printing ANYTHING you design and especially if it has text, you want to design and save it at 300 DPI (dots per inch). The lower the DPI, the more your image is going to be blurry and fuzzy... you don't want this
