Re: Post submissions here!
This is not an official entery b/c i forgot to get the step by step pics :*(
But I figured this would be the place to show it considering the challenge!
This took a couple of hrs to do and I did not even get to finish it. It was getting late, but at least my daughter in law sat there long enough for me to get it to a point were i could take a decent pic.

Re: Post submissions here!
At first I thought: I can't participate in the August challenge, I paint my own kids... But then I remembered that I have a very good friend who is due in 1 month . So here you go - my very first belly painting
It took around 45 mins. I think, I hadn't seen her in a while so we had a lot of talking to do
Argh, the picture becomes unsharp . It seems to happen when I upload it, I hope you can still read it

Re: Post submissions here!
YEAH! Whitney let me come over & do her belly today! So, here it is:
I used:
Many 1/2 sponges
#4 round brush
DFX metallic white & light blue, gold, bronze & that oxidized light green(I can't remember the name)
Wolfe metallic blue
Paradise black(I wanted the washed out look that it gave)
Starblend black(for shading... Thank you Lilly Walters for this trick!!!)
[img][/img]
I used Wolfe white to draw out the basic design.
[img][/img]
Shaded in the blue areas & the gold areas.
[img][/img]
Filled in the dove w/ metallic white
[img][/img]
Shading w/ Starblend black & Paradise black
[img][/img]
Knot work w/ Wolfe white
[img][/img]
Line work Paradise black.. more shading Starblend black
The finished design
Re: Post submissions here!
These look great!!! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. Bellies!!!! So exciting!!!
Re: Post submissions here!
Well, I'm not sure how mine will measure up with the rest of them, but I at least wanted to try. All the paints are Snazaroo, sponge, small round (#2?) and a large round (#6?).
outlined in white
sponged on the largest coloured areas
filled in the other coloured areas
started adding some details
outlines
added a border and some "sparkles" near the fairy

Re: Post submissions here!
Now that the unicorn challenge is finished, I hope to see lots more bellies!
Re: Post submissions here!
Me too... the problem is everyone has a face, but pregnant bellies take time to grow
Re: Post submissions here!
That was my first time doing a belly... it was fun
I'm not 100% happy with the "background" at the bottom... the sky looks ok and the foreground stuff, but oh well... I'll keep working on it. And now I've got people asking me how much I charge for belly painting.... quick, um... $25!

My 10 minute PPB price at festivals is $25.
My come to your home & do one for a photo shoot is $50/hr(2-3 hours).
Some day I want a house w/ a studio, but right now I have a house w/ a scary, hairy German Shepard
Re: Post submissions here!
Draw the outlines of the baby.
Base of white metallic DFX mixed with baby bleu DFX.
Dark Blue metallic (Eulenspiegel) sponged around the base.
Background of the inside is orange metallic (eulenspiegel)
Continue to paint with the desired colors and outline with black.

Gosh I wish someone close to me was expecting! I've never done a belly before and I'd love the chance!
