First "Real" Belly Painting
I had my 'first' chance at pre-natal art today! It took about 3.5 hours, and I had a photographer friend there the whole time, documenting. I'll put some of the pro shots up when I get them; this is just off of my camera:
In retrospect I should have changed from purple hair to something else, and a couple of other nit-picky things, but overall, I'm pretty happy with it, and very glad to have this under my theoretical belt!
Next step: make all expectant mothers in my area decide that they NEED to get painted for photos instead of just the traditional belly silhouettes!

This is great, I'm so envious! Was the mom someone you know?
I just did the It's A Baby and Family Expo here in Boston and we posted a sign offering Mommy to Be Belly Painting by appointment and I so hope some expectant moms respond.
I'll definitely be looking for your pro pics when you post them.
Awesome job and congrats on your first opportunity.

Really good, well done!
Did you dram it out first or just free hand it?
I agree the lettering is is fantastic.

Thanks Ladies!
The mom is an actor-friend of mine - we met while doing a musical together a few years back.
Cheryl - I hope people book you!
Haha the name shifted places like 4 times from start to finish And thanks - I like the lettering too - it developed from random 'fonts' being scribbled on the skytrain
Yes, I drew it out first, and I had a pile of sketches on the table beside me to refer to - I was nervous about hands and faces. Still not totally happy with hands and lips, but I don't hate them, so that's a start.
Now I want to do more! But hopefully in a slightly shorter time-frame, haha.

Fantastic work!
I've been thinking about a Baby and Toddler Expo here... but the booth fee is a bit pricy, but the moms around here would get painted at the expo, plus bookings... I dunno. It is so much fun!

Amazingly, I got the booth for both days free! It was supposed to be $500 per day. Apparently no "Activity-type" vendors applied for booths so the expo president sent an email out to a bunch of local face painters in my area stating that it was free to the first responder. Needless to say I responded just about immediately since I have my business email linked to my phone and snagged the spot.
I did not make a great deal, definitely not the thousand that it would have cost, but the exposure was fantastic and I made some great connections with photographers and other potential clients.

Looks great! I'm on my way to do one myself today No sketches though. I'm a 'fly by the seat of my pants' kinda girl. I'll take some photos of items I want to incorporate. Eek.
