Pricing for Glitter Tattoos Empty Pricing for Glitter Tattoos

Post by sparklingfaces Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:18 pm

So I never knew the wonders of glitter tattoos... I got a glitter tattoo at LaFete and I'm in love!
I adore glitter and this opened my eyes to a new way to wear glitter!

I ended up placing about a $200 order for glitter tats supplies, I was wondering how do you guys price your glitter tats?
I was thinking $5 each but didn't know if that was right.

Anyways, let me know, also I would be interested in knowing how often you do them at festivals or pool parties.

I wish I could say that the $300.00 I have spent on them has paid off at all. LOL. My kids just end up wanting them and nobody else ever has except for a lady who wanted a free hand butterfly for a party she went to. $5.00 is my price too... I am hoping they pick up this year!!!

I know some artists who charge by the number of colors they use--you could start by charging a certain price for a single-color tattoo and then charge per additional color or set a limit, for example, you can have the customer pick up to 3 colors.

I charge $8 each at the festivals I do, I don;t have signs advertising. If I have a helper, then I let her talk to the people in line and mention it. Other than that, my best advertising is to make sure I have a nice big one on me at all times, and do a couple for high visibility people around my booth so that when someone says HEY! Where'd ya get that...they send them right to me. I have my first total glitter tat party booked for a couple ofweeks from now. I wonder how well they'll go over once I have my helper hired on a regular basis this year and can advertise them while I still do fp? Stay tuned.

And welcome to the sparkly side. Wink

Minimum $3 for a small and $8 for a larger one, but that depends on how much you spent on that design. I think it's a good Idea to charge extra per color. Gonna do the Taste of Arlington & Viva Vienna Festival in my area so thats what I'll do Small/med/large tats: $3 or $5 or $8 + $1/extra color. I was booked by a school for their sock hop to glitter tattoos since they are faster to do (one color) and wont sweat off and that paid for my kit in itself!

Pricing for Glitter Tattoos Empty Re: Pricing for Glitter Tattoos

Post by Gamezgirl Wed Mar 24, 2010 5:53 pm

This is my personal opinion but really? I can't be bothered pricing a multi colour, multi size different pricing structure. When I am busy, it is price X. How do you recall when there is a familly of 4 who got what size, how many colours etc and still be speedy? Who decides which tat is small, med or large? What about the small size but intricate designed ones? Maybe I'm just lazy but one price fits all. Easier to train my help that way too.
Also, as a parent, I walk away from anyone charging extra for colours, or glitter etc.

I charge $3-$5 for a glitter tattoo and $6-$8 for freehand glitter art, depending on where I'm at. If it's a big festival in a city I'll charge more, if it's a smaller festival in a small town I'll charge less.

Pricing for Glitter Tattoos Empty Re: Pricing for Glitter Tattoos

Post by modernmagik Wed Mar 24, 2010 6:07 pm

I would never charge less for a glitter tat that I do for face painting, because the price it costs you per tattoo is more than your cost per face. Also, the fact that the glitter tats last longer is a selling point for charging slightly more. Also, you end up hurting yourself by offering tiered pricing that starts so low and then charging more for more colors, etc. It is more time consuming and can get confusing. I usually charge about $8 for a glitter tat, regardless of the size and color. They can get up to 3 colors on their design. I will charge more (like $10) if it is a very large, or freehand glitter tat to cover the extra time and cost involved.
But then again, I would never charge less than $5 for face painting, and that is for very simple designs. If you are not charging enough at pay per face events to clear your hourly rate after expenses, then is it really worth it? Festivals are long and tiring. If it is not lucrative, why put yourself through all that work? We are already at a disadvantage at these events, unless the festival is doing it the proper way and paying you by the hour, because we are limited in what we can make by how fast we can work. Craft booths don't have that problem. They can sell $500 worth of merchandise in the time it takes many face painters to paint a couple faces and make $10-$20.
I just don't understand why you would want to under price yourself when working under those conditions. People attending those types of events KNOW that activities cost money and either plan for that, or just don't attend.
My take on it is that you should not charge less for your face painting than it costs to purchase food at those events, and you should always charge a couple dollars more for tats than you do for your simplest face painting because it costs you more, and takes about the same amount of time to do.

I charge $5. If I had larger stencils I would charge $8 for those, but I don't.

The one thing that I think is going to HUGELY help in selling them is the stock display board I just bought.

I haven't really sold many at this point because I wasn't advertising them, just offering them if someone asked them. It seemed like a big chore to make up a glitter tat display board, ya know?

Now, they'll advertise themselves with the pre-made display board!!

I'm so excited for it to arrive.

OMG, Taste of Arlington, I checked that out but I couldn't justify paying the booth fee. I sent out some feelers for sponsors, but now that I know you're gonna be there...I'll rethink that. I hope you got a reduced fee anyway.

Good luck, Jenny

I got a glitter kit about a year ago & never used it. This past month I've used them at 2 tween birthday parties! I charge more for the glitter tattooes because it cost more for the supplies & I had my daughter doing them.

When I am at a festival or other PPF event, I charge $5 for the glitter tats. I have some bigger stencils and had them priced at $7, but they didn't sell at all, so I am thinking this season I will just price them all at $5.

For a party, I charge the same as I do for hourly face painting.

I sell enough at PPF to make it worth my while, and both of my kids can do them so if I get too busy they can step in to do the tats and help move the line along.
My daughter and I are usually well covered with the tats in order to advertise them.
I have a separate board for them and it is also listed on my banner.
For a recent event, I took some black heavy stock paper and applied several different designs to it, so people could touch them and really get a good look at the glitter.

Here, I think it helps to emphasize that they are waterproof and sweatproof during the summer events.

Those jewelry rollups are fine to display the stencils you have, but I found that if you don't fold it up properly, the stencils fall out so easily.

There are plenty of jewelry rolls available with zipped compartment like the one I found at a thrift shop. It holds 150 stencils and rolls up a bit taller than the poofer glitter bottles that I keep in my clear bag behind them.

I use the two sided laminated copy of all the tat stencils I have for small gigs & got the kit from Jody at www.signatureglitter.com, too. Fantastic set, easy to use and compact.

I charge $5 for my regular size (2" square)& $8 for my larger ones (4"-6"). My larger ones didn't sell until I had my daughters wear them at a festival, one as a necklace the other had one down her arm.....Ba-zinga!

Here's my set-up. The larger tat's are on one side of the banner, the smaller ones are on the other side.

I have a mixture of Tattoos from Glimmer Tattoos and Jody's stuff. I bought the kit from Glimmer that has the pots of oh 40 colors ? I think i like the glitter in the pots better b/c I can control the colors with brushes better than poofing and the their glue never dries out (its like nail poslish wand vs lip gloss type wand)...Jody's board rocks though...
