Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
I like using a word board also, for all the same reasons stated above, and mostly it allows me to be more creative. I only take a picture board to pay per face events now

I they want t see a sample of my work I have them look up my website on their phone...
I also prefer Words. Anniel, for your word menu, what program do you use to make it? You mentioned dingbats and fun fonts and I have seen other word boards posted on Facebook or even Pinterest but I don't know what they have used to actually make it! Thanks
Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
I googled free fonts/dingbats and then just
dowloaded them and typed

Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
Here are some I made using free clipart and picmonkey.com
Edited to say: I printed these on cardstock and then used clear contact paper and covered them front and back (like laminating it) and put velcro on the back and I use black foam core boards and just velcro which ones I want for the gig I'm doing. Works really nice!
For PPF events I use actual photo examples of an exact design so they know what to expect.

I'd just like to point out that we have been waiting a LONG time for you to post more pictures! It's worth it... but it's been a long time

Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
I'm bumping this puppy!
This is a word board I did up for a recent PPF event I did - It was a rush job... created on a budget, lol... I had some colored paper left from a $2 pack I bought to create a sign that said, you guessed it, "FACE PAINTING" and just printed the word of the design out on those sheets to save on INK and still have some color. Then I painted something quick on each, laminated them and attached them to two picture frames I got at Michaels (BOGO free but still more than I wanted to spend, lol).
Overall, worked really well... and I attached a red and/or blue circle sticker to each word design sheet for pricing. Was very glad it was not confusing (kept it to only 2 prices anyway) AND I had a lot of diversity in my painting that day! Success!

Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
Lol! Some designs I really dislike painting... thus I only put them as a large price wise, hah... I honestly hate painting Iron Man and Batman... I think I need to come up with some new designs for both. Iron Man is just kind of lacking and Batman I find is annoying to try and keep pointy and symmetrical while filling in the mask that I paint.
Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
i know what you mean about batman. i came across this version awhile ago.
it's a bit easier to recreate, as it's mostly curved lines connected to each other. sort of like spiky teardrops.

Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
That's an interesting one - yesterday I just painted a regular batman mask and wasn't so annoyed, lol
Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
I can't imagine working off boards with just words. I'm up to six boards, all with designs I have painted displayed on them. Each board is 2'x4' foam board that I painted to match my booth. I just use sheet protectors turned upside down and spray glued in place. If I'm at a place something won't work, I just take the board out (all mine are organized by type) . Sometimes I use all 6, at little places I use less. The pictures are easy to move around by swapping them out of their sleeve with others. I never even thought of using words. Lol. I have around .......400 some designs now....Each board holds 72 designs. I rarely paint the same thing twice in a day.
If I ever figure out how to post a pic, I will, if anyone is interested. Mine have everything from kiddo monsters to full back tribal for adults.

I've tried going from photobucket to hear, with no luck. Any "post pic " advice would be welcome. I added another 8-10 this morning from the weekend.

*Has the AHA! moment*
Now I will photo my boards, then upload them to photobucket. First I have to go to work. Next time I will make it a little smaller. Holy huge octopus!!

Figured I would bump this up in case anybody else wanted to share their inspiration with us inspirationally challenged newbies, lol
Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
hopefully this will work, I've tried two days running now. Sigh. Anyway, here are 3 of my boards, back and fronts have pictures on them. The green side is the side facing the weather so I turn those sheet protectors upside down and use a thumb tack to keep the picture from falling out.

Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
We have only used example boards but I like the idea of a word board with a bit of paint on it since my daughter and I work together. It would be nice to have less specific expectations I think.
Our current board has faces that we have painted on card stock in varying sort of flesh tones and laminated. They are just stuck on the front of the boards with tape and can be removed and rearranged as we like. The boards are colored poster board that has also been laminated and then mounted on foam core to give it some more stability. It held up well in our last event with rain and wind and all.
I think we may try something similar with the words.
The glitter tattoo sign next to it without examples just thoroughly confused people. We had those in books on the table but people kept asking if the face designs were glitter tattoos??? It seemed so obvious to me that they are not but I guess we need to make it really really obvious.

I can see why people might have been confused. You list the price for Face Painting and Glitter Tattoos on the one white sheet and then surround it with pictures of your face painting designs (and no examples of glitter tattoos visible here). You also have a separate posters saying "Glitter Tattoos" - you would have been better off having the price for those on that sign instead. That would have helped with the confusion.
Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
I agree. Live and learn. The glitter tattoo thing was added kind of last minute and the display was not planned well. By the last day we had hung one of the tattoo example books on the edge of the table where it would be noticed easier. Next time we will have a sign with some tattoo examples and put that price on there as you recommend. They did sell well even with the confusion so they will continue to be part of the set up.

Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
Never underestimate the lowest common denominator...
Hey Staley, your laminated poster board on foam board seems to work, but i know something that you'll get a better result for less work, less materials and less cost.
Corrugated plastic board.
Ive seen it in blue, black, white, red, yellow, and translucent. You can get them at well stocked hardware stores or large crafting stores. Water proof of course and they don't dent as easily as foam board. Check em out!

Re: Word board verses Painted Designs for events
Staley, I just had to pop in and say that I was VERY confused by your mirrors at first... Why does she have pictures of the hay on the floor....? And how did she get the images so sharp???
